Check out the first trailer starring Tilda Swinton, George MacKay, Michael Shannon, and Moses Ingram:

The official description reads:

From Academy Award®-nominated director Joshua Oppenheimer (The Act of Killing, The Look of Silence) comes a poignant and deeply human musical about a family that survived the end of the world.

Though there have been multiple films about families/survivors at the End of the World, The End does have a very interesting twist in that it’s a musical—like if Snowpiercer had more singing and dancing in it. Funnily enough, that movie also has Tilda Swinton in the cast.

Though a lot of the shots do look artsy, it does seem that this will be a more literal story as compared to more abstract fare like Joker: Folie a Deux.

As someone who actually enjoys musicals, I think this is a pretty neat concept, and it’s just the kind of experimental film that we need to see more of in theaters. I’m sure this would have just been swept under the rug if they planned to release this straight to streaming.

Watch out for The End when it comes to cinemas on Dec. 6.

Kenobi Star Moses Ingram Allegedly in Talks to Join MCU https://www.geekfeed.com/moses-ingram-allegedly-in-talks-to-join-mcu/ Sun, 24 Jul 2022 02:49:46 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=70203 Moses Ingram was one of the major players in Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, and though we don’t have an update on a second season, word has it that Ingram has found herself attached to another Disney IP.

According to insider Daniel Richtman (via @MarvelCrave), Ingram is currently in talks to join the MCU. No details have been revealed if this is for a film or for a television series, but a lot of fans are already guessing that she’s been chosen to be Marvel’s new Ororo Monroe a.k.a. Storm. They’re even going so far as to speculate that she’ll be introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

With Professor X in Doctor Strange 2 and the confirmation that Kamala Khan is a mutant in Ms. Marvel, seeds have been planted for the introduction of mutants to the world of the MCU. We don’t know how Marvel Studios will tackle their arrival, but it would be great if they managed to embrace their struggle in the comics—what with the regular people fearing them and the X-Men having to prove that both species can co-exist.

I have to admit, it’s going to be tricky trying to introduce the mutants into the MCU, seeing that they’ve mostly been absent from the series’ run, but I guess this could give the writers an opportunity to really have the world treat the mutants like a threat that they’ve never seen before. I guess the hard part will have to be altering Magneto and Professor X’s origin. At this point, Erik Lehnsherr would be too old to be a Holocaust survivor in the 2020s. Some have pitched to rewrite Magneto as an African-American who experienced racism in his youth, but I guess there are multiple other ways to approach it.

Going back to Ingram though, we don’t know if she’ll debut in the MCU soon, but you can catch her in Obi-Wan Kenobi now streaming on Disney+.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Writer Reveals Original Plans for Reva https://www.geekfeed.com/kenobi-writer-reveals-original-plans-for-reva/ Fri, 01 Jul 2022 06:46:47 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=66740 Reva was one of the breakout characters for Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the series ends with her fate up in the air. What’s interesting is, her arc could have ended pretty shortly.

Talking to The Direct, series writer Stuart Beattie explained that he originally planned for Reva not to know Darth Vader’s identity, and she would then die consciously by his hand. Bettie explains:

“Yeah, except the only little difference in mine was she didn’t know Darth Vader was Anakin. Cause I was like, ‘How’d she know that?’ All she saw was Anakin as Anakin because he hadn’t changed in the suit yet, right? So Anakin killed her friends, put the scar on her, almost killed her, left her for dead, basically. So, in her mind, the Jedi Council were the biggest villains in the galaxy. She believed the lies that they were plotting a coup to overtake and get power and all that, but they were stopped by the Clones. So she believed that’s why she’s hunting Jedi, because she believed the Jedi are the worst, basically.”

The series goes another direction by making Reva’s goal killing Vader by getting close to him, which she still fails. She then runs off to Tatooine to try and murder Luke as some kind of revenge on Anakin. Beattie continues:

“Because I figured, ‘How would she know that this thing in a mechanical suit that everyone calls Darth Vader is the guy who killed her, or tried to kill her?’ So, it was Obi-Wan kind of letting her in on that secret and that revelation that makes her kind of go, ‘Oh my god, I’ve been wrong this whole time.’ And so she goes and basically saved Kenobi by sacrificing herself, telling Vader, ‘I killed Kenobi.’ And then Vader killed her, [with her] knowing that Vader would kill her. So, that kind of completed her arc. So just a little bit different that she was, yeah, absolutely, the Inquisitor hunting Kenobi all the way through and driven by her own personal demons.”

Admittedly, the reason she knows his identity is still kind of clunky, but the revision gives a reason for Luke to be part of the finale, and we get to see Owen and Beru play their part in the protection of Luke.

For now, Reva’s character is free to go where the writers choose, but she will have to be on some kind of redemption arc because she was still hunting Jedi way before she decided to stop fighting.

Hopefully a second season of Kenobi gets announced, or better yet, a movie.

Official Star Wars Account Slams Toxic Fans on Twitter https://www.geekfeed.com/official-star-wars-account-slams-toxic-fans-on-twitter/ Thu, 02 Jun 2022 01:55:38 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=65431 It’s no mystery that Star Wars is full of some toxic fans, and they’ve bullied every star in the franchise from kid Anakin Skywalker Jake Lloyd to Daisy Ridley. One other actor that the toxic fandom has managed to bully-off social media is Kelly Marie Tran from The Last Jedi, and while some fans still haven’t given up on their hating, the official Star Wars account had decided to put one of them in their place.

This was the account’s reply to someone who was trying to trash Billie Lourd and Kelly Marie Tran at Star Wars Celebration:

The post was met with a lot of positive reactions from fans, and there has been some appreciation from the official Star Wars Twitter page for taking a stand against the toxic fandom. While Disney has been notorious for trying to keep all sides pleased, it’s good to see the PR team actually take a side for once.

It doesn’t stop there, either. After the targeted criticism at new character Reva from Obi-Wan Kenobi, the official Twitter has called out the racist comments against actress Moses Ingram:

It’s hard to point out exactly when the fandom started getting toxic, but it was pretty public around the time that the Prequels came out back in the late 90s. Fans only really started to address the problem with the release of The Last Jedi, where fans had managed to bully Kelly Marie Tran out of social media.

While I don’t think toxic fans can be completely stamped out, it’s great that the official Star Wars account itself is making a stand.
