While fans thought they would have to wait until the later part of the year for Ranma and Akane to make a return, the release window may have been revealed to be much closer.

According to fan account @ramu_animes, the second season of Ranma could be coming out this April. Here’s the post:

https://twitter.com/ramu_animes/status/1877188850117734663

Since this isn’t the official page, it’s best to take this with a grain of salt, but an April release does seem realistic—depending on how far the series was into production by the time the first season aired.

We don’t know how far the second season is going to go when it comes to the story, but it has been teased that Shampoo’s own suitor Mousse is going to be making an appearance. With Shampoo also leaving for China by the end of the first season, it’s very likely that the second season will feature her comeback and one more inconvenient curse for Ranma.

So far, reception for the anime has been great, and new generation of fans are now getting into the world of Ranma ½. Though the original anime is considered a cult classic, the reboot has been lauded for being more fair in its portrayal of Akane—who manga-readers thought was made too mean in the original manga.

Plus, the reboot isn’t as sexed up as the original anime, which a lot of loyal manga fans thought was an huge improvement.

The second season of Ranma ½ is allegedly coming back this April.

Ranma ½ Season 2 Officially Announced https://www.geekfeed.com/ranma-%c2%bd-season-2-officially-announced/ Sat, 28 Dec 2024 13:58:32 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85791 Netflix has had a great anime run for the past few months with Dandadan and Ranma ½, and while both the first seasons of the series have been finished, it’s already been confirmed that second seasons will be underway.

The Dandadan announce has been covered in another article, but here’s the announce for Ranma ½:

The first season had concluded with the first Shampoo arc (implying she’ll be back for more mayhem), but the teaser does give a hint as to another incoming character in the form of Mousse—Shampoo’s nearsighted suitor. Not only is he handsome, but he’s also skilled in a very specific martial art that deals with concealed weapons.

Admittedly Mousse doesn’t show up as frequently as Shampoo or Ryoga, but he’s still considered to be one of Ranma’s recurring rivals compared to others that show up in the manga.

So far, a lot of great buzz has been going around for the Ranma remake. While the original from the 90s is considered a classic, the new episodes have been lauded for being closer to the manga; in that Akane is a lot gentler as a character. The original anime was considered to have butchered Akane as a character making her more violent than she was in the source material.

For now, a lot of fans are pleased with the remake, and the show has managed to gather a new generation of watchers as well. Though Dandadan may be its own animal, Ranma ½ still has action, but has a lighter, more comedic focus for anyone too squeamish about ghosts and aliens.

Watch out for the second season of Ranma ½ when it comes to Netflix sometime next year.

The Bomb Devil is Here in Trailer for Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc https://www.geekfeed.com/the-bomb-devil-is-here-in-trailer-for-chainsaw-man-the-movie-reze-arc/ Sat, 28 Dec 2024 07:19:25 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85764 A lot of fans are waiting on the release of the second season of Chainsaw Man, but MAPPA is already giving fans a treat with a new movie covering the Reze arc from the manga.

Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc is set to release next year, and a new trailer has been dropped teasing the arrival of a new love interest/adversary—the Bomb Devil. Check this out:

Here’s the official description for the movie:

Extravagant bloody battle involving love and desire, humans and devils, is coming to the big screens!

“Chainsaw Man” is a manga serialized in Shueisha’s “Shonen Jump+” that has sold over 30,000,000 copies. In 2022, the series was broadcast as a TV Anime series that was made by animation studio MAPPA (Notable works: “JUJUTSU KAISEN”, “Attack on Titan Final Season”, etc.), creating buzz all over the world.

Now in 2025, the episode that made the world go wild during its serialization is coming to theaters as an animated movie!

The official story description for the movie has also been released. It reads: Denji became “Chainsaw Man”, a boy with a devil’s heart, and is now part of Special Division 4’s devil hunters. After a date with Makima, the woman of his dreams, Denji takes shelter from the rain. There he meets Reze, a girl who works in a café.

While most of the first season had Denji pursuing a romance with Makima, Reze actually threw a curveball for the fans since she also had great chemistry with Denji. One big issue was that she was also possessed by a demon in the form of the Bomb Devil—and she’s quite capable of a lot of destruction.

Though fans should expect a lot of action and explosions that are signature to Chainsaw Man, Reze is considered to be one of the best pairings for Denji, as compared to Makima who is clearly just grooming him for control.

Hopefully the release of this movie will satiate the wait for the next season.

Catch Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc when it comes out in theatres sometime in 2025.

Watch New Opening Theme for the Ranma ½ Reboot https://www.geekfeed.com/watch-new-opening-theme-for-the-ranma-%c2%bd-reboot/ Thu, 03 Oct 2024 10:15:50 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84557 Rumiko Takahashi’s Ranma ½ continues to be an anime classic, and while a lot of its peers have gotten reboots over the past few years, Ranma has somewhat remained untouched—until now.

MAPPA is set to release their reboot of Ranma ½ this week, and we have an early look at the series new opening theme. Check this out:

If the singer of the intro sounds familiar, that’s actually Jpop singer Ano, who’s best known for her work on Chainsaw Man ending song, Chu, Tayousei a.k.a. the ending of the episode where Denji eats puke. This ending:

There’s probably a good reason why Ranma has taken so long to get rebooted. The anime is fairly old, but it’s still considered a gold standard when it comes to action/comedy/romance. So much of the series is considered to be a monolith for all otaku fans, so anything attempting to reboot it will no doubt be met with hard scrutiny.

Plus, the original introduction was an absolute earworm:

After the successful reboot of Urusei Yatsura though, it does seem like a reboot of a classic series like Ranma 1/2could be the right time for this new anime audience; plus it will bring in some fans of the original. Millenials still watch the new anime right?

I’m just hoping they manage to maintain a lot of what made the original Ranma great while updating the series for more modern tastes. Fingers crossed they pull it off.

Catch Ranma ½ when it premieres on Netflix on Oct. 5.

Check Out Trailer for Ranma ½ Reboot Coming to Netflix https://www.geekfeed.com/trailer-for-ranma-%c2%bd-reboot-coming-to-netflix/ Thu, 18 Jul 2024 13:19:42 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83385 2022 saw the remake of Rumiko Takahashi’s classic series Urusei Yatsura, and now Netflix has revealed their reboot of another Takahashi classic in collaboration with Studio MAPPA.

Check out the reboot of Ranma ½:

The official synopsis translated reads:

Ranma Saotome and Akane Tendo are fiancées chosen by their parents. However, when Ranma is splashed with water, he transforms into a girl…? A slapstick fighting love comedy featuring unique characters is about to begin!

Besides the will-they-won’t-they tension between Ranma and Akane, the series has been lauded for its unique approach to action. With Ranma and his father being martial arts specialist, every arc in Ranma has him/her taking on all kinds of kooky characters who have specific kinds of martial arts—be it fighting gymnastics or specialized figure skating.

The series also has a roster of memorable characters. Besides Ranma being able to turn into a girl, there are also other characters who transform when they get wet. Ranma’s father turns into a panda; Ranma’s other fiancé Xian Pu (or Shampoo) turns into a cat; and Ranma’s rival Ryoga turns into a tiny black pig (who Akane adopts as her pet P-Chan).

It’s considered a classic series by a lot of old-school anime fans; and that’s probably the reason it didn’t get a reboot after so long. Hopefully MAPPA will be able to deliver when it comes to modern anime standards. I’m just eager to watch if a new generation of fans would come to enjoy Ranma with this reboot.

Watch out for Ranma ½ when it comes to Netflix on Oct. 6.

An Expert Animator Must Learn about First Love in MAPPA’s First Trailer for Zenshu https://www.geekfeed.com/mappas-first-trailer-for-zenshu-released/ Wed, 27 Mar 2024 17:56:14 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81681 We have been getting some fantastic anime based on pre-existing properties like Delicious in Dungeon and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, but once in a while we get something that is completely original going straight to the anime treatment.

Just in, studio MAPPA, the same house behind hits like Attack on Titan and Kakegurui have released the first look at their upcoming anime Zenshu. Check this out:

The official description for the show is as follows:

After graduating from high school, Natsuko Hirose starts her career as an animator. Her talent quickly flourishes, and she makes her debut as a director in no time. Her first anime becomes a massive hit, sparking a social phenomenon and earning her recognition as an up-and-coming genius director. Her next project is set to be a romantic comedy movie themed around first love! However, having never been in love herself, Natsuko struggles to understand the concept of first love, and as a result, she’s unable to create the storyboard, causing the movie production to come to a standstill.

It’s interesting that MAPPA should make something about struggling animators, seeing that the studio has come under fire for poor working conditions. We don’t know if this is them officially saying something about the state of animation, but based on what we see in the trailer, we do some kind of idea how stressful it is to produce anime.

And we thought that making manga was stressful enough.

No release date has been announced for Zenshu, but the series is currently in production, and it’s possible we could get something early next year.

Chainsaw Man Movie Announced https://www.geekfeed.com/chainsaw-man-movie-announced/ Mon, 01 Jan 2024 12:13:06 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80244 The Chainsaw Man anime launched last year to an astounding reception, and a lot of fans are eagerly waiting for a second season. What’s interesting is, MAPPA is set to deliver a continuation of the story, but it’s going to come out in the form of a movie.

Here’s the announcement for Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc:

With the show introducing us to all kinds of powers in this world like Aki and Himeno’s contracts with devils and Power being a Fiend (a Devil inside a human corpse); Reze is another Hybrid like Denji. In the manga, Reze is known as the Bomb Girl since she fused with the Bomb Devil—much like how Denji fused with Pochita.

In the manga, Reze was a Hybrid that worked with the Soviet Union, and she was sent to Japan on a mission to recover Denji’s heart. She is the main antagonist of the Bomb Girl arc in Chainsaw Man, but she also has future appearances in the manga, running into Denji from time to time.

With Denji also having all kinds of relationships from Makima to Himeno, it’s considered that Reze is the ‘true’ love interest for Denji. I won’t go into it further, but it’s safe to say fans are excited to see her make her debut in anime.

We don’t know exactly how the show will incorporate Reze in the future, but if the movie should release before the premiere of the second season, it’s very likely we could just see her as a recurring character in the anime.

As of now, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc still has no release date, but fans are hoping that we get something around the latter half of 2024.
