Though a lot of fans think they should have just brought Charlize Theron back to reprise the role, Miller and Taylor-Joy have revealed that director Edgar Wright (Baby Driver, Last Night in Soho) had helped sell the role to Taylor-Joy to Miller.

Talking to MovieMaker, Miller explained, “I knew from Edgar Wright just how good she was. And so that proved to be the case on this film — very, very rigorous about her role.” Taylor-Joy also shared that it was Wright who told her that Miller wanted to meet with her. She shares:

“I got a text from Edgar Wright, who said George Miller wants to talk to you, and immediately, just my whole body felt electrified.”

We don’t know what Wright is doing now, but he has admittedly started taking it slow since the release of Last Night in Soho. He has two films in the works called The Chain and The Running Man, but we haven’t heard much about those projects yet. Wright did celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Shaun of the Dead —no doubt his breakout film— earlier this month.

Going back to Miller though, a lot of fans have been excited for the return of the Mad Max world since Fury Road came out in 2015. A Mad Max-centered movie may have had a hard time getting off the ground, but maybe a Furiosa spinoff would be just as exciting.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is expected to release in theaters on May 24.

Matt Smith On His Cancelled Role in Star Wars: TROS https://www.geekfeed.com/matt-smith-on-his-cancelled-role-in-star-wars-tros/ Sat, 06 Nov 2021 04:54:02 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=62252 Before cameras were rolling for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, word was going out that Doctor Who star Matt Smith had been cast in the film. Smith was eventually dropped from the movie after some changes, and he now opens up about who he could have been playing in a recent talk with the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

Here’s a post from the show’s Josh Horowitz:

“We were close to me being in it, but it just never quite happened,” said Smith, and he said that the part had apparently become ‘obsolete’ as the story was being developed. He continues:

“It was a pretty groovy thing. It was a pretty groovy part, in concept… It’s a big story detail—transformative Star Wars story detail. It never quite got over the line… It was a big shift in the history of the franchise.”

If anything, Smith was only onboard early in development, but he confirms that he never even got to do a costume test. We don’t know which his character could have been, but some are convinced that he would have been a younger clone of Palpatine before Ian McDiarmid was brought back. There was certainly no role for Smith to fill in when it came to Trevorrow’s cancelled Duel of the Fates.

With Smith getting into some great projects like Last Night in Soho, it would have been fun to see a former Doctor running around in a Star Wars movie, but for now, I guess Smith just has an opportunity to make a comeback down the line.

I’m still waiting on that Solo: A Star Wars Story sequel. #MakeSolo2Happen Lucasfilm!

For now, the next Star Wars project, The Book of Boba Fett, is set to hit Disney+ on Dec. 29. Catch Smith in Last Night in Soho now in theaters.

Super Mario Bros.: Anya Taylor-Joy Enjoying Prep for Princess Peach https://www.geekfeed.com/super-mario-bros-anya-taylor-joy-enjoying-prep-for-princess-peach/ Wed, 03 Nov 2021 15:50:31 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=62209 While Chris Pratt may have been the center of attention with the Super Mario Bros. movie announcement, he would be joined by a star-studded cast. One cast member is Anya Taylor-Joy (Queen’s Gambit) who would be playing the part of Princess Peach, and while we don’t have a look at the movie yet, Taylor-Joy talks about the fun she’s having prepping for the part.

Here’s her interview with Entertainment Tonight:

https://twitter.com/etnow/status/1453083125303717895?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1453083125303717895%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.comicbookmovie.com%2Famp%2Fvideo_games%2Flast-night-in-soho-star-anya-taylor-joy-shares-excitement-for-princess-peach-role-in-super-mario-bros-a189213

“Oh, it is so much fun. We’ve started doing little bits and pieces already, but the greatest part is that I get to say I’m doing work or research just by gaming. [That’s] pretty great.” When asked by fans if she’s getting into any of the Super Mario games, she replied, I have to. The fanbase is so intense, of course I have to do it. And it’s so much fun.”

Besides Taylor-Joy, the movie also has a cast which includes Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Seth Rogen (Donkey Kong). With the world of Super Mario filled to the brim with crazy characters, we can only expect the world to grow even more in a sequel—if the movie gets a sequel greenlit, that is.

We don’t know when we’ll get our first look at the Super Mario Bros. movie yet, but with a release date set for the end of 2022, we may have to wait a while before we get to see what this characters will look like in the animated film. Even so, we have multitudes of Mario media to comb through where we can meet all these fun and kooky characters.

No release date has been set for the Super Mario Bros. film, but themovie is expected to come out in the holiday season 2022. In the meantime, you can catch Taylor-Joy in Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho now in theaters.

Anya Taylor-Joy to Star in Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu Remake https://www.geekfeed.com/anya-taylor-joy-to-star-in-robert-eggers-nosferatu-remake/ Thu, 26 Aug 2021 12:53:27 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61181 Anya Taylor-Joy may be one of the biggest stars now, but she had her start back in 2016 with the release of The Witch. What’s great is, she’s going to be reteaming with Witch director Robert Eggers for another movie.

Talking to The Los Angeles Times, Taylor-Joy confirms that she’ll be reteaming with Eggers for a remake of Nosferatu, the silent horror movie from the 1920s which was based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It’s still unclear which role Taylor-Joy would play, but seeing her roles in Witch and Split, she could very well be the film’s protagonist who is being terrorized by a vampire. But seeing that Eggers is one of the more unique voices in horror now, we could be looking at something else entirely.

With films like Twilight and What We Do in the Shadows offering a variety of genres when it comes to vampires, I’m very interested to see what a director like Eggers could do with a horror classic.

Taylor-Joy has been landing so many great roles since her rise, and it looks like she has no intention of slowing down. She says:

“All my friends are always like, ‘What are you doing?!? Take … a … break,’… But the roles are too good. I wouldn’t be able to deal with it if I didn’t say yes. I wouldn’t cope. I’d rather just go for it and do my best.”

Catch Taylor-Joy in Edgar Wright’s next movie, Last Night in Soho which comes out on Oct. 29.

Edgar Wright Goes Horror in First Trailer for Last Night in Soho https://www.geekfeed.com/edgar-wright-goes-horror-in-first-trailer-for-last-night-in-soho/ Thu, 27 May 2021 00:52:26 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=59675 With films like Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, director Edgar Wright has been known for his action/comedies with snappy direction. Now he’s set to go full horror movie with his next film Last Night in Soho.

Watch the trailer for Last Night in Soho down here:

The official description reads:

Edgar Wright’s psychological thriller about a young girl, passionate in fashion design, who is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer. But 1960s London is not what it appears, and time seems to fall apart with shady consequences…

The film looks to have Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit) and Anya Taylor-Joy (Queen’s Gambit) in the spotlight, but the film also has Matt Smith and Terence Stamp credited in the cast. What’s more, the movie also has an appearance from Game of Thrones’ Diana Rigg, who had passed away last year.

Harry Potter fans will also be happy to see twins James and Oliver Phelps, who had played the mischievous Fred and George Weasley in the Potter movies.

Admittedly, I wasn’t expecting Last Night in Soho to be a horror film, but knowing Wright and his homages to several genres, it’s going to be interesting to see him go all out when it comes to horror. Taylor-Joy has also had a penchant playing the ‘victimized girl’ in scary movies, so it would be great to see her take on the role of the ‘tormentor’ this time.

Catch Last Night in Soho when it comes out Oct. 22.
