Captain America: Brave New World didn’t make the same kind of splash that Marvel would have during its heyday, and it looks like Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld decided it was time to publicly shame studio head Kevin Feige into returning from his position at Marvel.
In a recent post on Twitter, Liefeld shared the dwindling second weekend of Captain America 4, and called Feige to get ‘off the mound.’ Here’s his post:
Get Feige off the mound. He’s spent. https://t.co/5EimiviiBt
— robliefeld (@robertliefeld) February 22, 2025
This tweet wasn’t unexpected either. Earlier in the month, Liefeld had made headlines when he publicly announced that he would no longer be working with Marvel after their treatment of him with Deadpool and Wolverine. Liefeld mentioned that he wasn’t even invited to the afterparty at the premiere (he was said to have joined those for previous Deadpool films), and a lot of his haters begrudgingly agreed that Liefeld had a point when he said that, “Kevin Feige does not treat comic book creators well.”
Liefeld had written in an e-mail:
“Marvel’s treatment of creators has never been their strength… Without the worlds, the characters and the concepts that we create — and in this specific case, the world of Deadpool — there are no films to shoot. No blockbusters to distribute. … I am not the easy button at Staples. I am the human imagination behind it all… Comic book creators cannot continue to be relegated as afterthoughts. This is easy to address. Unless I reach out to address it, it will never manifest.”
Admittedly Liefeld is considered by a lot of comic fans as a hackjob opportunist, which managed to make him one of the most successful comic book artists in the 90s. But nevertheless, they agreed with his statement that Marvel has not been nice to comic creators. Besides him, there have been several artists that fans think Marvel had snubbed including Winter Soldier creator Ed Brubaker and Hakweye artist Matt Fraction.
As for Feige, we don’t know when he’ll eventually run out of steam at Marvel, but maybe it is time for someone new to take on the reigns after Avengers: Secret Wars.
]]>While fans can be heads-or-tails about the news, Downey himself has explained what Marvel’s approach was when it came to bringing him back. Talking to THR’s Awards Chatter podcast, Downey explains, “[Marvel head Kevin Feige said] how can we not go backwards, how do we not disappoint expectations, how we can continue to beat expectations … Let’s get Victor Von Doom right”
We don’t know what ‘getting Victor Von Doom right’ means for Marvel, but we can only surmise that they’ve come up with an angle that they think isn’t going to disappoint by bringing RDJ in. A lot of fans do think that it’s ironic that they would try not to ‘go backwards’ but still end up bringing back the guy that started this whole MCU in the first place.
For now, everyone is just speculating on how exactly Marvel is going to pull off Robert Doom-ney Jr. The easiest explanation would be that Doom is a variant of Tony Stark from a different timeline, but some are suspecting that this Doom was Tony Stark if he never got to have his experience as a hostage in a cave way back in the first Iron Man. He would have just kept making weapons until he got filthy rich enough to buy a country and become its ruler.
For all the things that can go wrong with the casting, RDJ’s talent alone makes fans hopeful that he’ll be able to pull this off. While I’m in the camp that wanted a new actor, I’m willing to let Marvel cook with this casting in the meantime.
Avengers: Doomsday is expected to come to theaters on May 1, 2026.
]]>Just in, the teaser for the villain team-up has leaked online, and everyone is poring over the new costumes for Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, Winter Soldier, U.S. Agent, Taskmaster, and Ghost. Check this out:

Here are also some stills of the characters that have come out online:

— Comicodigy (@comicodigy) August 13, 2024
Though every new Marvel film is expected to have different costumes (because toys), probably the biggest display overhauls have been for Taskmaster and Ghost.
For Ghost, they kept her powers, but she now sports a faceless mask which gives the character a more mysterious vibe. As for Taskmaster, she’s been given a mask that further defines the skull shape that’s reminiscent of the comics. Albeit, it does kind of look like an edgy hockey mask, if you ask me.
One character that doesn’t get their superhero costume revealed is Sentry a.k.a. Bob played by Lewis Pullman. Rumor has it that the team was supposed to recover the Sentry somehow, and this meet-up with the team is likely the Sentry’s prison where the government keeps him.
We don’t know his role exactly, but he’s expected to be a really powerful character who is also mentally unstable. In the comics, he has the power of a ‘million exploding suns’, and Bob is able to transform thanks to a special serum that he drinks. It’s unclear how Thunderbolts* will change him, but he does look to be the most powerful character in the movie.
Thunderbolts* is set to release in theatres on May 2, 2025.
]]>To celebrate the movie actually getting #1 at the worldwide box office, Marvel Studios has shared an image of Hugh Jackman recreating the infamous Wolverine meme of him holding up a framed photo. Check this out:
Crushed it. #DeadpoolAndWolverine pic.twitter.com/v6dojXSI8U
— Marvel Studios (@MarvelStudios) July 28, 2024
And since this is still a Deadpool movie, they’ve also recreated the meme with Deadpool holding up his own framed photo:
— Marvel Studios (@MarvelStudios) July 28, 2024
Just for context, here’s the original meme from the animated X-Men series:
There was actually a video of the meme released as well, but instead of Logan caressing the photo, he just tosses it away.
It’s actually kind of feels like they shot this scene for the movie, but since the film was already chockfull of all kinds of cameos and references, the appearance of this meme could have been a tad overkill. It does make for fun internet fodder though.
Despite some negative reactions, the box office has spoken, and Deadpool and Wolverine looks to be the hit that Marvel Studios was looking for. With the Avengers: Doomsday announcement and this movie’s overall vibe, it does seem like Marvel is now fully leaning into nostalgia; but I am hoping that the Russos and Kevin Feige know that it’s way better to prioritize a good story than just hoping fans will point and clap when someone familiar is onscreen.
Star Wars had to learn that lesson the hard way.
Deadpool and Wolverine is now showing in theatres.
]]>In a recent talk with Inverse, Marvel head Kevin Feige was asked about a possible sequel, to which he replies, “There are no immediate plans for Eternals 2.” Despite this, Feige does confirm that an upcoming movie—most likely Captain America: Brave New World—is going to be addressing some events that happened in Eternals. Feige continues, “There are, and I think you’ve seen maybe in a trailer we’ve released recently, an acknowledgment of some of those events. Certain giant things came out of the ocean.”
Just in case you haven’t checked out Eternals, the movie essentially reveals that Earth is a sort of ‘egg’ for a Celestial being. The Celestial starts to break through the surface, and the Eternals manage to stop it, but there is the case of a giant celestia body left popping out of the ocean.
Rumors suggest that Brave New World will consist of the governments fighting over the dead celestial as a territory, seeing that it has a new valuable metal on it known as ‘Adamantium’—the same indestructible metal that Wolverine’s skeleton is covered in.
Admittedly, Eternals isn’t my favorite film either, but you have to commend Marvel for trying out something more experimental. If you ask me, the movie wasn’t experimental enough, and director Chloe Zhao should have really gone all out. Just look at DC’s success with their more experimental titles like Joker.
Eternals 2 won’t be coming out soon, but Captain America: Brave New World comes to cinemas on Feb. 14, 2025.
]]>Check out the announcement for The Official Marvel Podcast:
Dive into the Marvel universe for the latest news, interviews, and exclusive surprises on The Official Marvel Podcast! Marvel’s stars and creators talk about what’s coming up next and celebrate the legacy of their favorite Marvel adventures and characters.
The first big guest for the show is the studio’s president Kevin Feige who should have some interesting insight on what we should expect down the line. I would also love to listen about some behind-the-scenes details and how they’ve been course-correcting after every entry since Endgame came out in theaters.
For now, it seems that podcasts have become a staple when it comes to adding audience engagement. We know all about after-shows, but podcasts for series like The Last of Us and House of the Dragon allow for more free-flowing discussion and we get to listen about more in-depth discussions as compared to carefully written and edited articles.
With a franchise as secretive and as vast as Marvel, a podcast would be the perfect venue to cover anything that was incoming, from upcoming films like Deadpool and Wolverine to games like the hotly anticipated Overwatch clone, Marvel Rivals.
No official release date has been announced for The Official Marvel Podcast, but we should expect it to launch sometime later this year.
]]>Marvel Studios hasn’t released anything official yet, but insider Daniel RPK (via @NerdTalkShow) does give us what could be a more speficic synopsis for Thunderbolts*. Check this out:
“Yelena, US Agent, Ghost, and Taskmaster are sent by Val to kill someone in a vault. They realize they’ve been set up and were meant to die on this mission. So they team up against their boss to take her down.”
If you can recall, Val is Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character who is being touted as the ‘evil’ Nick Fury and we saw her actually recruit Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and have her go after Hawkeye.
Seeing that Red Guardian and Winter Soldier aren’t mentioned in the team-up, I’m guessing that the two could be on a separate mission that will converge with Yelena’s team. After all, it’s revealed that the two did team-up in Marvel’s What If…? when the two were still working for Mother Russia.
As for the person that they were supposed to kill in a vault, everyone is almost sure that this is Marvel’s Sentry (Lewis Pullman), but seeing as how Marvel has kind of fumbled some great characters (like Taskmaster) it’s possible that it could be another character—so far, nobody else has been coming up in the rumor mill though.
Hopefully we get our first look at the movie before the year ends. Catch Thunderbolts* when it comes to cinemas on May 2, 2025.
]]>According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has suddenly fired X-Men ’97 creator and showrunner Beau DeMayo. His company e-mail had been deactivated, and his social media has been deleted. Marvel has not released any official reason for why DeMayo had been fired, but the cast and crew of his series was informed that he would no longer be attached to the project.
It’s very surprising that Marvel should fire DeMayo now as we’re only weeks away from the premiere of the series. DeMayo was already said to have scheduled multiple interviews for the coming weeks, and there were even plans for him to attend the Hollywood premiere.
For now, fans can only speculate on why DeMayo was fired. Some would cite creative differences—which is the usual reason—but DeMayo has been working with Marvel for a while, having written for Moon Knight and the upcoming reboot of Blade. Why would they suddenly decide to stop collaborating with him.
I guess all we really have to do is wait. A lot of fans are still anxious about the upcoming reboot; maybe it’s quality when it releases will give us an idea of what the rift between the studio and the showrunner could be about.
X-Men ’97 arrives on Disney+ on March 20.
]]>Reports were coming out earlier this week that star Tatiana Maslany had revealed during a Twitch stream that a second season of She-Hulk was unlikely with Disney. She said, “I don’t think so… I think we blew our budget, and Disney was like, ‘No thanks!’”
While She-Hulk haters were ecstatic about the news, io9 does say that the statement can be taken out of context. According to the site, Marvel is merely going through a “reevaluation” since Bob Iger returned to run the Disney company, and the slates and films had to be reshuffled and adjusted again. “… While Marvel works everything out, it’s not that a second season of She-Hulk has been completely abandoned. It just seems less likely than not at the moment,” the site writes.
Though the series did get generally good reviews, the biggest problem with She-Hulk was said to be in the budget, with Marvel said to have spent upwards of $200 million for the first season. With the show admittedly not making Mandalorian numbers, it would make sense for Disney to re-evaluate and figure out the most cost effective way to bring Shulkie back for another season.
If you ask me, they can probably just go with a movie, but the “new client a week” format does seem to be very core with the show.
You can check out the first season of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law now streaming on Disney+.
]]>According to The Hollywood Reporter, less than half of Daredevil: Born Again had already been shot before the execs—including Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige—decided that what they had wasn’t working. Daredevil is now going to restart from the bottom-up, with the writers and directors having been let go; and Marvel now looking to pursue a more ‘traditional’ route to developing the series.
As it turns out, Marvel Studios current method when it comes to their Disney+ series had no proper showrunners and just had movie executives calling the shots. There was also no development of pilots, just greenlighting projects worth $150 million and upwards.
Though there is a lot of praise for series like WandaVision and Loki, recent outings like Secret Invasion are now being considered a wake-up call for Marvel to take another look at how they run TV. Marvel’s head of streaming, television, and animation, Brad Winderbaum, said this about the rework, “We’re trying to marry the Marvel culture with the traditional television culture… It comes down to, ‘How can we tell stories in television that honor what’s so great about the source material?’”
It’s not clear what exactly went wrong with their first take on Born Again, but it was said that it was turning out to be more of a courtroom drama with Daredevil only suiting up by episode 4. It was said that the heads wanted the series to resemble something closer to Netflix’s version of Daredevil.
As of now, it looks like the show is on hiatus until they find an actual showrunner, but Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio are still expected to reprise their roles.
No release date has been announced for Daredevil: Born Again.
]]>In a new interview with The Playlist, Derrickson talks about him leaving the project, and what went wrong behind the scenes that got him to exit. Before Derrickson left, there were rumors going around that the sequel was going to be more of a horror movie, to which he confirms the sequel would have been an “extreme departure from the first film,” and, “a genuine horror film of sorts.”
We don’t know exactly where Derrickson and Marvel started to form a rift, but Derrickson had already seen that the project he was setting out to do was different from what the studio had in mind. He says:
“All I can say is that what we said publicly is exactly the truth… We had real creative differences. You know, the movie I wanted to make and how I wanted to make it was different than–it was just increasingly obvious that we were pulling against each other. And that’s how you make a really bad movie, I think. When the producer or the studio and the filmmaker are making different movies, you end up with a monstrosity and, you know, that’s why I had to bounce.”
Though it definitely is a shame that Derrickson wasn’t able to make the movie he wanted, there are a lot of fans who love how Multiverse of Madness completely embraces Raimi’s style of storytelling. Admittedly, it did have some cameos that felt a tad forced, but everything involving the Scarlet Witch is pure Raimi-level horror.
For now, Derrickson says there’s no ‘bad blood’ between him and the studio, and he even went to the premiere. Perhaps he can return for the next Strange movie, but at this point, it looks like Marvel already knows what they want and it’s only a matter of hiring a director who’s willing to have their name slapped into the credits.
No release date has been announced for the next Doctor Strange movie, but it is expected to release before Avengers: Secret Wars which comes out 2026.
It’s no mystery that Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness was considered divisive by fans, but before Sam Raimi jumped onboard, original Strange director Scott Derrickson was attached to the helm.
In a new interview with The Playlist, Derrickson talks about him leaving the project, and what went wrong behind the scenes that got him to exit. Before Derrickson left, there were rumors going around that the sequel was going to be more of a horror movie, to which he confirms the sequel would have been an “extreme departure from the first film,” and, “a genuine horror film of sorts.”

]]>According to The Hollywood Reporter, Josh Friedman, who wrote Avatar: The Way of Water, has been hired to rewrite a script that comes from Ian Springer and Jeff Kaplan. We don’t know exactly why Friedman was brought on, but THR speculates that it could have something to do with the change in tone of the film.
Some think that with Friedman onboard, we could be getting a blockbuster which has very tight themes about family—just like Avatar 2. Other films that Friedman has worked on include Syeven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds as well as the series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Cameron also had him attached to Terminator: Dark Fate, but there’s probably other reasons that movie bombed besides the writing.
Admittedly Phase 5 is off to a weak start with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, so fans are hoping that Marvel Studios gets its groove back soon. After Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Adam, and Quantumania failing to deliver critically at the box office, there is definitely pressure for Marvel to try and shake things up with their tried-and-true formula.
Fantastic Four is set to release on Feb. 14, 2025, but things could change based on how development is going for the film.
]]>In a recent AMA on Reddit (via Deadline), Reeves was asked whether he had any roles that he regretted turning down, and he replied, “…No…but I did always want to play Wolverine”.
Back in 2019, Marvel head Kevin Feige had confirmed that they have had meetings with Reeves to join the MCU, but they have yet to find the right role for him to fill. While the John Wick star would seem perfect for Wolverine, I think the studio may be looking for someone younger to take on the role for a couple of decades. I mean, Reeves is even older than the OG live-action Wolverine Hugh Jackman.
If anything, the multiverse opening up does present the possibility of Wolverine variants showing up in the MCU. Rumor even has it that Jackman would be playing multiple Wolverines in the upcoming Deadpool film. With John Krasinski’s turn as Mister Fantastic in Doctor Strange 2 seemingly a one-and-done role, maybe there’s room for Reeves to do a small cameo of his Wolverine in a future film?
Personally, I would love for Marvel to cast a completely new set of X-Men for the main universe. If anything, they can even skip out Wolverine like in First Class and just introduce him in the sequel. While Jackman is great, I’m eager to see Marvel cast someone accurate to the comic version; make Logan short and hairy, why don’t you?
In the meantime, you can watch out for Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 4 which comes to theaters on March 24.
]]>Watch this:
We don’t have any official synopsis about the documentary, but it did come with the tagline, “100 years of dreaming. 100 years of creating. 100 years of Stan Lee.”
If we were just going to speculate, I think the documentary will essentially cover Stan Lee’s start in comics, and how he came to create several pop-culture icons from the Fantastic Four to Spider-Man. I imagine they’re going to have a wealth of archive footage, granted that Lee had several other appearances around the 80s and 90s promoting comic book culture and whatnot.
Though I expect Disney to cover all the nice things about Lee’s life, I do wonder if they’ll ever cover the elder abuse that he suffered around the time of his death. After Lee passed in 2018, several reports had come out of people connected to him having abused his position and celebrity—even his own daughter JC Lee.
With Disney being the brand that it is, I doubt they’ll want to get into the dark stuff about Lee’s life, but personally I would like to see a complete picture of a person, rather than the brightly smiling, pop-culture persona he’s built toward his final years.
No specific release date has been announced for the documentary yet, but you can watch Stan Lee on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
]]>Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Safran says, “This was such a unique opportunity to tell one great overarching story… One beautiful big story across film, television gaming, live-action, and animation.”
Their plans do sound ambitious, but planning is a whole different thing when it comes to execution. If anything, the two have already met with the ‘best thinkers’ to really figure out where they should take the franchise moving forward. Gunn explained:
“We spent the past couple days with a group of some of the best thinkers in the industry, the best writers in the industry starting to map out that eight to 10 year plan of what it’s going to look like in theater, in TV, in animation, across the board for these characters.”
We don’t have any specifics on their plan yet, but I have a feeling they’re going to wait until next year’s DC FanDome to give us an idea. That should give them enough time to kickstar develp[ment on several different projects, as well as meet with any directors for the next batch of DC films.
Though Marvel is riding high right now, I’ve always kind of rooted for DC to be the one to try something different. Snyder was kind of doing that when his DCEU was starting out, but with Gunn and Safran at the helm, I wonder how things could be different.
]]>As per an official announcement, DC Studios will now be led by producer Peter Safran and The Suicide Squad director James Gunn. The two will serve as co-chairmen and CEOs of the DC franchise, and will answer directly to David Zaslav, WB Discovery head.
When it comes to their responsibilities, Gunn and Safran will be ‘responsible for the overall creative direction of the storied superhero franchise across film, TV, and animation under new unified banner.’
Zaslav says about the partnership:
“DC has among the most entertaining, powerful, and iconic characters in the world and I am thrilled to have the singular and complementary talents of James and Peter joining our world-class team and overseeing the creative direction of the storied DC Universe. Their decades of experience in filmmaking, close ties to the creative community, and proven track record thrilling superhero fans around the globe make them uniquely qualified to develop a long-term strategy across film, TV, and animation, and take this iconic franchise to the next level of creative storytelling.”
It’s certainly bizarre seeing Gunn become the co-lead of Marvel’s rival franchise. Though it seemed like he was only working with DC temporarily before he was re-hired by Marvel, he’s now solidified to work for the studio for four more years, and as the franchise head no doubt.
I wonder what Kevin Feige has to say about all of this.
We don’t know what DC plans for the future, but Black Adam is currently showing in theaters.
]]>Talking to Vulture’s Into It podcast, Lindelof laments on the state of Marvel media, and he says, “I wish they made less because it would make each one that came out a little bit more special. But I watch all of them. … People don’t want things to end. I do.”
Even though Lindelof does say that he wants less Marvel material, he is sympathetic to Marvel’s situation. He continues:
It’s always going to be hard because once you’ve got someone’s attention, you want to keep it. And so the idea of letting it go and not knowing if you’re ever going to get it back again is sort of like it’s antithetical to the way that we’re wired.
From a slightly sort of more cynical standpoint, this is a business. It’s an industry. And if you make a couple of great Marvel movies, the instinct is, ‘We need to make more Marvel movies, and we need to expand this.’
Admittedly there has been discussion about franchise fatigue and how more prevalent it is, seeing that we’re getting three Marvel movies a year with several series inbetween. Though it’s great we are getting some more obscure characters in the spotlight, you can’t help but feel a little desensitized whenever a new Marvel thing comes.
We don’t know if Marvel is aware of this issue, but for now, the wheels are just continuing to churn at the studio with no signs of slowing down.
In the meantime, watch out for Marvel’s next property She-Hulk: Attorney at Law which premieres on Disney+ on Aug. 17.
]]>During the Hall H panel (via The Hollywood Reporter), Feige talks about how marvel takes ‘big swings with part threes.’ He explains, “How do we elevate it in the way we’ve been able to with Civil War, and Infinity War and Ragnarok? … It’s very fun to be in the world of the Ryan Reynolds show.”
Despite all the films that were announced last weekend, Deadpool 3 is yet to get a release window. We don’t know what Marvel plans to do with the franchise, but with the time they’re taking, I’m having the feeling that they could be waiting until Avengers: Secret Wars to have Deadpool introduced via Multiverse. Then again, with several projects in the pipeline, DP could very much make his cameo appearance as soon as She-Hulk.
While Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was a fine film, it was kind of disappointing that the movie didn’t really embrace that wild, wacky concept. How is it that we only got Professor X to show up from the Fox films? They could have easily had Deadpool fall through some multiverse portal in an after-credits sequence. How is it that in the same year as MoM, we got a better crossover film with Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, and a better Multiverse movie with Everything, Everywhere, All at Once?
Deadpool 3 has no release date yet, but hopefully we get something a D23 later this year.
]]>The Gamer has pointed out a new thread on r/vfx that has been calling out Marvel for its terrible reputation as a VFX client, and hundreds of comments are being written about how the studio has been demanding impossible deadlines, overworking several artists.
Some have said that they’ve been working in the studio way back in 2012 and have been asking their employers not to put them in any Marvel projects. There are also some who have stories about working on the Marvel series and the recent Thor film. Mickeym00m00 writes:
“I request to not work on [Marvel] movies and TV shows. Unfortunately, they’re becoming our biggest client. They expect a smorgasbord of options so they can change their mind three more times.”
VFX artists have been the unsung hero of the big budget blockbusters, and there have been calls over the months for them to have better working conditions. Frankly, it’s kind of the same issue with animators and video game developers; where studios attempt to meet deadlines and it’s up for the animators and artists to crunch and work overtime to make it–most of the time without extra pay/compensation.
With a big studio like Marvel, you can almost expect these kinds of stories to come out. We don’t have an official statement from them yet, but I’m sure more people speaking out will grab their attention.
Marvel’s latest movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, is now in theaters.
]]>As per The Ankler (via Comic Book), Marvel head Kevin Feige actually offers frequent notes to upcoming Sony projects, and he has also warned them about getting ahead of themselves when it comes to building their own superhero franchise. They write:
“Marvel’s Kevin Feige does weigh in and offer notes on Sony’s Marvel movies that don’t feature Spider-Man… One insider credits Feige for guiding Sony’s approach and warning the studio not to get too ahead of itself in terms of building some larger universe in the vein of the Avengers movies.”
After the release of Morbius and the incoming movies Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web, I think it’s too late for Sony to pump the breaks now. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens; will the films flop like Morbius or are the characters strong enough to keep an audience like Venom?
If you ask me, Sony needs to have its own ‘Kevin Feige’ for their franchise, and they should have leaned-in on the Spider-Verse concept and just had different movies focused on alternate versions of Spider-Man with a team-up every few years. Phil Lord and Chris Miller have been doing great work, and they pretty much have an origin film with Into the Spider-Verse already. I mean, who is seriously excited to line up for Kraven the Hunter?
The next Sony Spider-Verse movie, Kraven the Hunter comes out Jan. 13, 2023.
