While nobody has touched the franchise in a while, a rumor is going around that Labyrinth could be making a comeback soon. According to The InSneider (via @OneTakeNews), Nosferatu director Robert Eggers could be working on a new take on Labyrinth. The movie is said to be produced by Sony and the Jim Henson Company.

No further details have been revealed, but seeing that Labyrinth has always been on the more dark and visually trippy side, Eggers could definitely be an interesting choice to helm. After all, he’s mostly been focused on period dramas/horror rather than full-on fantasy.

For context, Labyrinth follows the story of a young girl Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) who is thrust into a magical Labyrinth after the Goblin King (David Bowie) kidnaps her little brother who she wishes would be taken away.

Unlike Henson’s more popular IP like The Muppets, Labyrinth was a passion project from Henson that pushed the boundaries of visual effects and creature work; embracing how Henson’s puppets can also be dark and tell stories that even adults can enjoy.

The movie bombed at the box office, but is now considered to be one of Henson’s most celebrated projects. Besides all the magnificent creature work, Bowie absolutely shines as Jareth.

We don’t know how true this Eggers Labyrinth rumor is for now, but it would definitely be a great idea to get Eggers to work on a franchise like this one after Nosferatu.

In the meantime, you can check out Eggers’ vampire take in theaters now.

Elmo ‘Issues Statement’ After Old Clip of Him Angry at A Rock Goes Viral https://www.geekfeed.com/elmo-issues-statement-after-old-clip-of-him-angry-at-a-rock-goes-viral/ Sun, 09 Jan 2022 04:04:43 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=63373 Besides the Omicron virus, it looks like another unexpected thing has gone viral in the first week of 2022—a clip of Sesame Street’s Elmo getting exasperated over a rock (or ‘Rocco’). Twitter is just having a blast watching Elmo lose his cool, and it looks like the muppet’s official Twitter post had to make an official statement about it.

The meme started on January 3 when@wumbooty on Twitter shared a clip of Elmo getting increasingly annoyed that his friend Zoey won’t give him his favourite cookie because it belongs to Rocco, her pet rock. Here’s the post:

From that point, several people had been pointing out moments where Elmo gets increasingly exasperated with the rock, and several clips that have been coming out have been getting upwards of a million views each. It’s gotten so silly to the point that Elmo had to ‘release a statement’ clarifying that he’s still friends with Zoe, but is still angry at the rock:

Despite only getting recognized now, Rocco had been introduced way back in 1999, and this altercation with the cookie took place in an episode five years later. Seeing the unpredictability of memes, we don’t know if the official Sesame Street will address this newfound popularity of Elmo v Rocco, but for now, fans are just having fun sharing memes and empathizing with Elmo’s frustrations on something so frivolous—I mean, what else could the internet be for besides doing just that?

Street Gang Docu will Delve Into the Making of Sesame Street https://www.geekfeed.com/street-gang-docu-will-delve-into-the-making-of-sesame-street/ Tue, 30 Nov 2021 03:53:08 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=62631 With a new generation of audiences falling in love with Fred Rogers thanks to shows like A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood and Won’t You Be My Neighbor, HBO Max is now looking to delve into the making of one of the longest-running children’s programs of all time—Sesame Street.

Here’s the first trailer for Street Gang:

The official description reads:

Sunny days, furry friends, classic songs, and a whole lot of heart. Street Gang, an HBO original documentary about the most impactful children’s program in television history, Sesame Street.

Though Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood may have been one of the most influential programs when it came to shows targeted at children, Sesame Street admittedly had the more timeless model, with beloved characters like Elmo, Big Bird, and Bert & Ernie managing to stay the same through decades, with different actors being able to take over the parts.

Even if Sesame Street is a kids’ show on the surface, it’s interesting to take a look at all the thought that was put into the material that would come out. Not only were they teaching children letters and numbers, but they also had to push for diversity onscreen; especially with the show coming out around the time of the Civil Rights movement.

You have to admit, even though muppets weren’t as big as they were before, every generation of kids today has been raised in some iteration of Sesame Street; and that’s a pretty impressive feat for Jim Henson and his crew.

Catch Street Gang when it premieres on HBO Max on Dec. 13.
