The Tokyo Game Show just did a huge showcase for the upcoming Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and while the game looks as fine as expected of a Kojima game, a lot of people took notice of the photo mode.

You’re just going to have to see it to believe it:

While regular video game photo mode usually just stops time in the game so players can move the camera around and take a screenshot, DS2 is different in that photo mode will have the characters be aware of the camera, resulting in them doing all kinds of poses when the mode is on. What’s more, when you snap a photo, it also puts it through this harsh light filter; like an actual camera flash happened.

The voiceover for Death Stranding 2 does reveal that the photo mode may have some kind of influence from the story, and it’s possible that the player can collect these polaroids that they took and hang them on a bulletin board on the ship. It’s not clear if there’s more significance than that, but anyone is happy for the chance to play pretend model photographer for actresses like Lea Seydoux, Elle Fanning, and Shioli Kutsuna.

Watch out for Death Stranding 2: on the Beach when it releases for PS5 and PS5 Pro sometime in 2025.

“I Just Don’t Want to Do It”: Hunter Schafer on Refusing Trans Roles https://www.geekfeed.com/hunter-schafer-on-refusing-trans-roles/ Fri, 05 Apr 2024 08:43:06 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81777 Hunter Schafer has gone a pretty long way since she debuted as Jules in Euphoria, and she’s starred in big films like the Hunger Games prequel and is even set to appear in Hideo Kojima’s upcoming game OD. Despite being a trans actress though, Schafer said that she is purposefully refusing to take on those roles.

In a recent interview with GQ, Schafer talks about her trans identity and how she doesn’t want that to be the main point of her roles moving forward. She says, “It’s been very intentional. I’ve gotten offered tons of trans roles, and I just don’t want to do it. I don’t want to talk about it.” She continues, “It took a while to learn that and it also took a while to learn that I don’t want to be [reduced to] that, and I find it ultimately demeaning to me and what I want to do. Especially after high school, I was sick of talking about it. I worked so hard to get to where I am, past these really hard points in my transition, and now I just want to be a girl and finally move on.”

With LGBTQ+ representation being a lightning rod for alt-right, anti-woke sentiment online, Schafer also does admit that there has been pressure for her to be some sort of spokesperson for the trans community, to which she says:

“I know for a fact that I’m one of the most famous trans people in media right now, and I do feel a sense of responsibility, and maybe a little bit of guilt, for not being more of a spokesperson… But ultimately, I really do believe that not making it the centerpiece to what I’m doing will allow me to get further. And I think getting further and doing awesome shit, in the interest of ‘the movement,’ will be way more helpful than talking about it all the time.”

Maybe down the line we can get to a point where casting a trans person would be no big deal, and the way that Schafer’s career has been going I think we’re heading down the right direction. In the meantime, we’ll just have to deal with the current situation of stunt-casting and anti-representation, but fingers crossed we’re closer to the ideal cultural norm.

I’m still crossing my fingers Schafer either gets cast as Princess Zelda in The Legend of Zelda or a live-action Spider-Gwen in a future Spider-Man movie. Make it happen, Sony!

For now, you can watch out for Schafer in Kinds of Kindness which comes out June 21.

State of Play: Watch Combat Reveal for Silent Hill 2 https://www.geekfeed.com/watch-combat-reveal-for-silent-hill-2/ Sat, 03 Feb 2024 17:05:20 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80889 The Silent Hill franchise from Konami may be have been dormant since they cancelled Hideo Kojima’s game, but the studio is now ready to move forward with some new entries as well as a remake of one of the most celebrated entries in the franchise.

Silent Hill 2 is currently in development, and thanks to State of Play, we have a new look at the game. Check this out:

Here’s the official description for the game:

Take a look at new gameplay footage in this trailer, including what to expect from the improved and modernized combat.

Having received a letter from his deceased wife,

James heads to where they shared so many memories, in the hope of seeing her one more time: Silent Hill. There, by the lake, he finds a woman eerily similar to her…

My name… is Maria,” the woman smiles. Her face, her voice… She’s just like her.

Experience a master-class in psychological survival horror―lauded as the best in the series―on the latest hardware with chilling visuals and visceral sounds.

With the original Silent Hill 2 coming out for the PlayStation 2 era of consoles, fans are expecting this remake to add a whole new modern spin on a classic story.

Of course, when it comes to these remakes, there is always two sides that the studio could go; whether they create a whole new game with some original elements, or just polish up the look and gameplay of the original.

Either way, Konami should expect some complaints, but as long as the remake can stand on its own, I think a lot of fans will be pleased.

No specific release date has been announced for Silent Hill 2, but the game is now available for wishlist and it’s possible it could come out later this year or sometime early 2025.

A24 is Adapting Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding into a Movie https://www.geekfeed.com/a24-is-adapting-death-stranding-into-a-movie/ Mon, 18 Dec 2023 09:34:47 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80139 We know that a Metal Gear Solid movie is in the works with Oscar Isaac, and though we haven’t gotten any updates on that project, we do have news on another new Hideo Kojima adaptation.

Following a thread of big A24 reveals this week, celebrity game director Kojima himself has revealed that A24—arguably the Marvel Studios of cinephiles—is teaming up with Kojima Productions to make a Death Stranding movie. Here’s the official post:

https://twitter.com/HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN/status/1735301845776744611

Since Kojima himself is known for breaking the mold when it comes to video games, he does iterate that this movie from A24 will be different from other video game adaptations in that it will not only be a treat for fans who like the game, but for people who generally enjoy films.

Here’s the official description for the game:

Sam Bridges must brave a world utterly transformed by the Death Stranding. Carrying the disconnected remnants of our future in his hands, he embarks on a journey to reconnect the shattered world one step at a time.

With spectral creatures plaguing the landscape, and humanity on the verge of a mass extinction, it’s up to Sam to journey across the ravaged continent and save mankind from impending annihilation.

What is the mystery of the Death Stranding? What will Sam discover on the road ahead? An unprecedented gameplay experience holds these answers and more.

It’s also worth noting that the game has managed to gather a star-studded cast that includes Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and Lea Seydoux. There’s even a character that resembles director Guillermo del Toro.

Admittedly, the story of Death Stranding is kind of a puzzle to wrap your head around, but that’s exactly what makes it the perfect project fit for A24’s wheelhouse.

No release date has been revealed for the Death Stranding movie, but with the announcement now, I wouldn’t be surprised if they released the film late 2025.

OD: Hideo Kojima and Jordan Peele Announce Their Upcoming Project Starring Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer https://www.geekfeed.com/od-hideo-kojima-and-jordan-peele-new-project/ Mon, 11 Dec 2023 17:03:20 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80036 Hideo Kojima may not have been able to push through with his collaboration with Guillermo del Toro, but he has found another horror auteur to work on his upcoming project.

At The Game Awards 2023, they announced Kojima’s upcoming game OD starring Sophia Lillis (IT), Hunter Schafer (Euphoria), and German actor Udo Kier (Hunters). Watch this:

We don’t really see much from the trailer besides the actors’ faces, but each of them reads this line with varying degrees of emotion:

“The hungry purple dinosaur ate the kind zingy fox, the jabbering crab, and the mad whale and started vending and quacking.”

We don’t know exactly what Kojima is building up to, but the sentence is an example of a phonetic pangram, a phrase/sentence containing all the phonetic sounds of the English language.

If you also look closely at Lillis’ eyes in the last shot, you’ll see that a door with light opens before she screams out in horror.

Besides Kojima and the star-studded cast, the biggest reveal about OD is that Jordan Peele (Get Out, Nope) has also been announced to be involved in the project. We don’t really know what to expect when it comes to a collaboration between the two, but the word ‘immersion’ has been thrown around a lot. Kojima’s statement translated:

“It is a game, don’t get me wrong, but it’s at the same time a movie but at the same time a new form of media.”

With Kojima’s last game Death Stranding being a PlayStation exclusive, it looks like Kojima is going to be bringing OD to Xbox, and he also mentions that his team is going to be working with Xbox Game Studios and making use of their cloud gaming technology.

Hopefully more about the “game” will be revealed soon, but I’m suspecting this could launch sometime late 2024 or mid-2025.

No release date has been set for OD.

Metal Gear Solid Director Hideo Kojima Shares Signed Paddington Figure from Paul King https://www.geekfeed.com/hideo-kojima-shares-signed-paddington-figure/ Thu, 23 Nov 2023 16:32:07 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=79803 Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima may be hard at work with the next Death Stranding game, but from time to time he likes to update his followers on Twitter whatever he’s up to.

After updates on films like The Killer and The Marvels, Kojima has decided to share that he has a figure of Paddington Bear which was signed by Paddington director Paul King. Check this out:

King signed the suit case:

For Hideo,

So lovely to meet ya and thank  you for all the pleasure you have given me [for years?]

Paul King”

Despite Kojima’s penchant for very dark and militaristic stories, it is kind of funny that he should be into a property like Paddington Bear. He had even gushed about the film back in 2022, sharing the very same statue that he got signed from King.

We don’t know if the two will ever collaborate in the future, but Kojima has been known to give his friends cameos in his games. Guillermo del Toro had served as a character model in Death Stranding, and they even managed to give Conan O’Brien an appearance in that game as well.

With Death Stranding 2 on the way, maybe there’s room for someone like King to make even a small appearance. Then again, we’ll have to wait and see when the next reveal is going to be.

No release date has been announced for the Death Stranding sequel, but you can watch out for Paul King’s Wonka which comes to cinemas on Dec. 15.

Has Arcane’s Ella Purnell Joined Death Stranding 2? https://www.geekfeed.com/has-arcanes-ella-purnell-joined-death-stranding-2/ Thu, 20 Apr 2023 01:54:52 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76377 Ella Purnell has starred in movies like Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, but fans definitely loved her as Jinx in Netflix’s hit Arcane series. What’s curious is, some are guessing she’s joined the next game from celebrity developer Hideo Kojima.

The rumors started flying when Kojima posted a photo of himself with Purnell. Check this out:

Immediately some fans started asking if Purnell had been cast in Death Stranding 2, which not only features returning cast members Norman Reedus and Lea Seydoux, but new faces as well including Shioli Kutsuna and Elle Fanning.

Admittedly, Kojima does have a penchant for including some high-profile artists in his games. The first Death Stranding alone had appearances not just from Reedus and Seydoux, but from Margaret Qualley and Mads Mikkelsen as well; even director Guillermo del Toro was used as a character model.

I can imagine Purnell being cast in a role, and I’m kind of hopeful that we get some kind of nod to Jinx, since that character is best known for being in another video game, namely League of Legends.

Until we get an official reveal, all we can really do is wait. While it would make sense that Reedus’ Sam Bridges would continue being the protagonist of the sequel, some speculate that Fanning’s character could be the new lead. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Death Stranding 2 still has no official release date, but fans are hoping the game launches sometime in 2023 for the PS5.

Kojima Productions Officially Announces Death Stranding 2 https://www.geekfeed.com/death-stranding-2-officially-announced/ Sat, 10 Dec 2022 14:55:22 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=72390 After months of teasing what his next game will be, The Game Awards has finally revealed Kojima Productions’ next game—and it’s the sequel to Death Stranding.

Watch the teaser for DS2 starring Lea Seydoux and Norman Reedus:

We don’t have confirmation of the new cast yet, but the end credits do confirm that Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna will be part of the cast. It also looks like Troy Baker will be coming back after his appearance in the first game.

If you also stick around for longer, we possibly get a glimpse of the main antagonist in the game. My guess is that it could be Fanning, but the body looks like it’s going to be a male. Perhaps it’s Baker’s character? It’s entirely possible he could be playing someone different from the first Death Stranding.

Admittedly, Death Stranding wasn’t met with the best reviews when it released, but a lot of people have been singing praises for the game’s very ‘artsy’ approach when it comes to story and immersion. We don’t know if Kojima will be delivering more of the same with the sequel, but it would be great if this sequel manages to be an improvement that could allow more fans to jump into the world of DS.

No specific release date has been announced for Death Stranding 2, but we should expect it to come out exclusively for the PlayStation 5 sometime in the next few years. I’m guessing 2024 but we would be lucky if we got a 2023 release date.

Konami Announces Silent Hill 2 Remake https://www.geekfeed.com/konami-announces-silent-hill-2-remake/ Thu, 20 Oct 2022 14:04:22 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=71671 Fans haven’t forgotten that Hideo Kojima was supposed to deliver his own take on the Silent Hill franchise, but Konami is still set in moving forward with one of their biggest horror game titles.

As promised, they’ve dropped a new reveal for a bunch of Silent Hill games, and the biggest one is the remake of the classic Silent Hill 2. Watch the teaser here:

Here’s the official description:

Having received a letter from his deceased wife,
James heads to where they shared so many memories,
in the hope of seeing her one more time: Silent Hill.
There, by the lake, he finds a woman eerily similar to her…

“My name…is Maria,” the woman smiles. Her face, her voice… She’s just like her.

Experience a master-class in psychological survival horror―lauded as the best in the series―on the latest hardware with chilling visuals and visceral sounds.

The original Silent Hill 2 had come out way back in 2011 for the PlayStation 2 era, so it’s kind of curious what the game will look like when it jumps forward past two generations of consoles. If anything, we should expect it to be like the Resident Evil remakes which are revamped from top to bottom—but they did keep the certain style and feel of the original games.

Admittedly, Konami has been pretty quiet about Silent Hill since they dropped Kojima’s project, and though it’s kind of a cop out that they should develop a remake, I think this could be a great entry point for new fans of the franchise.

No release date has been set for Silent Hill 2, but the game is set to be a PlayStation console exclusive. Fingers crossed we get a release sometime around 2023.

Elle Fanning in Next Game from Hideo Kojima https://www.geekfeed.com/elle-fanning-in-next-game-from-hideo-kojima/ Tue, 11 Oct 2022 04:13:26 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=71503 It could be a while before we get to see Elle Fanning in the next season of The Great, but she’s managed to get herself attached to the next game from one of the most celebrated game directors today.

As officially announced by Hideo Kojima, Fanning will be participating in the next game from Kojima Productions. Here’s the post:

We don’t have any official details for what the game would be, but some are already speculating that it could be Death Stranding 2, since Norman Reedus, the star of the first Death Stranding, had let it slip a few months ago that he’s already started work on the sequel.

One other game that KojiPro was said to be working on (but not officially confirmed) is something called Overdose, which is said to star another Death Stranding alum Margaret Qualley. Since fans are assuming that Qualley would be the lead of that project, it’s possible Fanning is attached to something else.

Then again, it’s possible that Fanning could be playing the lead villain of Overdose; pretty much like how they sold Mads Mikkelsen as the primary antagonist of Death Stranding. Though Fanning is best known for her more noble characters onscreen, I would love to have her play the villain for once—in a Hideo Kojima game, no less.

Until we get some more information, all we can really do is guess. If anything, Fanning is a phenomenal talent, and I can’t wait to see what she’s helping cook up with Kojima Productions.

Did Norman Reedus Accidentally Reveal the Death Stranding Sequel? https://www.geekfeed.com/did-norman-reedus-accidentally-reveal-the-death-stranding-sequel/ Mon, 23 May 2022 14:06:40 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=65332 Walking Dead star Norman Reedus had recently made a jump to video games thanks to Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding, and while no official sequel has been announced, it seems that Reedus has let it slip that the game is in development.

Talking to Leo, Reedus had confirmed, “We just started the second one.” Though he didn’t really seem phased like he broke some kind of Non-Disclosure Agreement, game director Hideo Kojima did post this on Twitter after Reedus’ comments made the rounds online:

https://twitter.com/Kojima_Hideo/status/1527895435213668352

We don’t know exactly how far into development Death Stranding 2 is, but Reedus did recount how much work he had done for the original game. He explains:

“It took me maybe two or three years to finish all the MoCap sessions and everything. It takes a lot of work. And then the game came out, and it just won all these awards, and it was a huge thing, so we just started part two of that.”

No teaser or release date has been mentioned, but with Reedus’ comments, maybe we can get some kind of announcement soon. Hopefully we’ll get something around June, but that’s just me being optimistic. With Death Stranding being a surprising reflection on the recent pandemic, I wonder where Kojima might want to take the story next.

From legendary game creator Hideo Kojima comes an all-new, genre-defying open world action adventure for PS4, starring Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux and Lindsay Wagner.

In the near future, mysterious explosions have rocked the globe, setting off a series of supernatural events known as the Death Stranding. With otherworldly creatures plaguing the landscape, and mass extinction imminent, it’s up to Sam Porter Bridges to travel across the ravaged wasteland and save humanity from impending annihilation.

Death Stranding 2 has not been officially announced, but you can catch the original game now available on PS4, PS5, and PC.

Is Hideo Kojima Teasing the Death Stranding Sequel? https://www.geekfeed.com/is-hideo-kojima-teasing-the-death-stranding-sequel/ Tue, 30 Nov 2021 07:42:50 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=62638 A few months back, Norman Reedus had teased that he could be working on a sequel to Death Stranding. We haven’t gotten any updates in months, but a recent post from game director Hideo Kojima has fans wondering if this is our first teaser for the DS sequel.

Kojima posted this on his Twitter feed:

The wording is very vague, but some are guessing that it’s actually Reedus that we see in the background, out of focus. Back in August (via IGN Brazil), Reedus had said, “I think we’re doing a second Death Stranding.”

With Death Stranding being Kojima’s first major title outside of Konami, a lot of people were hyped for the release of the game. Upon launch though, DS proved to be nothing less than divisive; with some praising Kojima’s unique take in the video game medium, and others dubbing the game as a pretentious attempt at art.

Oddly enough, Death Stranding ended up being prophetic in its premise. Who knew that a game about a delivery man trying to keep society connected as humanity was decimated by an invisible enemy would come out right before the rise of the pandemic?

We don’t know where a sequel could go at this point, but seeing as the first game already has a confusing enough storyline, we should expect the follow-up to be just as convoluted. Then again, there’s probably someone on Youtube who will be willing to go over details for you.

No sequel has been officially announced, but Death Stranding is now playable for PS4|PS5, and PC.

Death Stranding Announces Director’s Cut with New Trailer https://www.geekfeed.com/death-stranding-announces-directors-cut-with-new-trailer/ Sun, 11 Jul 2021 13:41:34 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60470 With Death Stranding being Hideo Kojima’s first game outside of Konami, you would think that it was already the ‘Director’s Cut’ of the game. Shortly after Ghost of Tsushima’s Director’s Cut announcement, Kojima Productions has announced a Director’s Cut of the game remastered for the PS5.

Check out the trailer for the director’s cut of the game here:

Besides the enhanced visuals for the PS5, the Director’s Cut also promises a whole new expansion of the game which includes new monsters, weapons, and delivery equipment from robotic legs that help you carry items to a catapult that lets you launch items across the map. Players will also get access to a slew of mini-games plus an extended storyline.

When the game came out, it was met with mixed reviews and a lot of people weren’t able to put heads or tails on what kind of game Kojima was trying to make—dubbing DS as a AAA walking simulator. Over time though, it looks like a lot more fans have managed to get onboard Death Stranding, and have understood Kojima’s themes on connection and society. Kind of prophetic considering COVID-19 happened less than a year later.

Hopefully this Director’s Cut will get more players trying out Death Stranding for the first time.

In the future, a mysterious event known as the DEATH STRANDING has opened a doorway between the living and the dead, leading to grotesque creatures from the afterlife roaming the fallen world marred by a desolate society.

Death Stranding Director’s Cut is now available for pre-order and will come out on Sept. 24 for the PS5.
