Green Lantern – Geekfeed https://www.geekfeed.com Entertainment News, Celebrities and Fandoms Fri, 01 Nov 2024 21:24:56 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://www.geekfeed.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/cropped-Geekfeed-Favicon-White-32x32.png Green Lantern – Geekfeed https://www.geekfeed.com 32 32 Kelly Macdonald Joins DC’s Lanterns Series https://www.geekfeed.com/kelly-macdonald-joins-dcs-lanterns-series/ Fri, 01 Nov 2024 21:24:56 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=85035 The Green Lantern series may have been dormant since 2011 thanks to the Ryan Reynolds movie, but DC Studios is finally pushing forward with their Lanterns series starring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre.

It looks like development is steadily moving forward, and The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire) has officially joined the cast of the series. Macdonald has apparently been cast in the role of Sheriff Kerry, who is described as “no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town. Her resilience, shaped by a complex past that’s hardened her resolve, anchors her when the community’s secrets begin to surface.”

It’s kind of fitting that the series would also include a sheriff character on Earth, seeing that the Lanterns themselves function as intergalactic sheriffs. We don’t know exactly what her role in the story is going to be, but some think that she could have some kind of romance with the older Lantern Hal Jordan.

I think it’s also worth noting that Macdonald had played opposite Josh Brolin in No Country for Old Men. Brolin was the original choice to play Hal Jordan before Chandler was cast.

Though the Lanterns mostly deal with intergalactic conflicts, it’s said that this series is going to have a grounded story that will take place mostly on Earth, and that it’s going to be around the same vein as True Detective. We don’t know exactly how that happens, but I think there’s going to be alien shenanigans afoot, and it will be up to the Lanterns to get to the bottom of it.

With The Penguin having such great reception being compared to The Sopranos, I’m admittedly skeptical about a Lanterns series that’s going to be close to True Detective—especially with Gunn’s DC expected to be more ‘lighthearted’ than the DCEU.

Then again, these Elseworld stories are still pushing forward, and I prefer my comic universes to have more variety between each project.

No release date has been set for Lanterns, but maybe a 2026 release is realistic.

Rebel Ridge Star Aaron Pierre has Officially been Cast as Green Lantern John Stewart https://www.geekfeed.com/pierre-officially-green-lantern-john-stewart/ Tue, 15 Oct 2024 09:57:38 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84701 Aaron Pierre may not have turned enough heads when he played ‘Mid-Sized Sedan’ in M. Night Shyamalan’s Old, but he definitely went viral with his latest Netflix movie Rebel Ridge, and everyone had wanted to get him cast in a big project as soon as possible.

As it turns out, fans can manifest destiny, and THR reports that Pierre has been cast as Green Lantern John Stewart in HBO’s upcoming Lanterns series. Pierre will be joining Kyle Chandler, who will be playing John’s older mentor and infamous GL, Hal Jordan.

So far, we only a know few things about the John Stewart role. For the Lanterns series, it’s said that Stewart is going to be a younger new recruit, and it will be up to Hal Jordan to bring him up to snuff. It’s also said that John is expected to be the main GL of the DCU, so that means he’s going to be a part of the Justice League along with David Corenswet’s Superman.

Some are also worried that this means that Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan is expected to die, but maybe DC has different plans for him moving forward.

Though 2025’s Superman is expected to launch the DCU officially, Lanterns is also going to be a different project in that it’s the first major TV series that will be in the DC Studios continuity. Sure The Penguin may fall under the DC umbrella, but so far, it’s still in its own separate timeline as well as The Batman.

Hopefully we get more info on Lanterns soon, now that the main leads have been found.

Lanterns has no release date yet, but fans are hoping for a premiere within the next two years.

Fans Want Rebel Ridge Actor to be the New Green Lantern John Stewart https://www.geekfeed.com/fans-want-rebel-ridge-actor-new-green-lantern/ Thu, 12 Sep 2024 17:48:28 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84214 Josh Brolin just made news last week when it was said that he was offered the part of an older Hal Jordan Green Lantern, but it looks like fans already have an idea for who they want as his underling John Stewart.

With the recent release of Rebel Ridge on Netflix, a lot of eyes are now pointed at actor Aaron Pierre, and a lot of people think he would make for a perfect Green Lantern. Fancasts of Pierre as Stewart have been making the rounds online and gathering thousands of likes.

You’ll also notice that the fancast has Chris Pine as Jordan instead of Brolin. Apparently, should Brolin decline the offer to play Hal Jordan, the shortlist is said to include actors like Pine and Timothy Olyphant to take on the part.

Besides Rebel Ridge, Pierre is probably best known for his role as the terrifically named Mid-Sized Sedan in M. Night Shyamalan’s Old which came out back in 2021. He also plays Malcolm X in the docudrama Genius from National Geographic.

I’ll have to admit though, with Brolin expected to play a grumpy old Lantern, it’s probably a given for his John Stewart to be more of a hotshot youngster—and Pierre has mostly just played serious characters. Then again, when it comes to his comic characterization Stewart was always pretty serious since he served in the Marine Corps. If the series is going for a comic-accurate Stewart, Pierre could be a great choice.

No release date has been set for the Lanterns series, but you can catch Pierre in Rebel Ridge now showing on Netflix.

Green Lantern Series: Josh Brolin has been Offered the Role of Hal Jordan https://www.geekfeed.com/brolin-has-been-offered-the-role-of-hal-jordan/ Wed, 04 Sep 2024 11:57:58 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84094 Josh Brolin may be best known for playing Thanos, but he has more comic book parts under his belt like Cablein Deadpool 2 and the often-forgotten Jonah Hex. Now rumor is going around that he could be up for another role, and it’s that of a major Justice League member.

According to Nexus Point News, Brolin has been approached to play an older Hal Jordan in HBO’s DC series Lanterns. The series would partner an experienced Lantern like Jordan up with a younger new recruit in the form of John Stewart.

Funnily enough, this kind of mirrors Brolin’s role as a younger Agent K in the Men in Black series where his character was also partnered up with a black rookie in the form of Agent J (Will Smith). But I guess by MIB 3, the roles are reversed, and J was already an experienced agent when he met Brolin’s K.

Take note, Brolin is yet to accept or deny the role yet, but he is said to be at the top of the list of actors wanted for the part. Should he refuse, the series still has a shortlist of would-be Hal Jordans that they could choose from.

With the Green Lantern movie starring Ryan Reynolds coming out in 2011, the IP has admittedly been put on ice when it comes to the box office. There were plans to introduce a new Lantern in Zack Snyder’s DCEU, but like the rest of his plans, they all fell through.

As of now, no release date has been set for the Lanterns series, but the show is expected to start shooting in January next year.

Blake Lively Confirms She was on Deadpool and Wolverine Set https://www.geekfeed.com/blake-lively-was-on-deadpool-and-wolverine-set/ Wed, 24 Jul 2024 13:35:25 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83458 CONFIRMED: As per the official credits of Deadpool and Wolverine, Blake Lively is indeed playing Lady Deadpool.

There’s been a lot of speculation on who could be appearing in Deadpool and Wolverine, and a lot of fans have guessed that Lady Deadpool, who is definitely appearing in the film, is played by Ryan Reynolds’ irl wife Blake Lively.

While nothing official has been confirmed, a set photo shared by Lively is fuelling the rumors that she could have an appearance in the film. Check this out:

A post shared by Blake Lively (@blakelively)

Of course, it’s possible that she couldn’t be appearing, but some guess it could be like a Mandalorian situation where Lady Deadpool doesn’t remove her mask, but she speaks in Lively’s voice.

With the movie expected to have cameos and appearances from characters all across Marvel’s cinematic history, an appearance from Lively as a Deadpool Variant seems like the something that could be on the everyone’s wishlist—especially Reynolds himself. I mean, he practically willed this team-up with Hugh Jackman over the past few years; even managing to get a little story out of his supposed final appearance as Wolverine in Logan.

Going back to the Deadpool variants though, we know that there’s going to be Ladypool, Headpool, Dogpool, and Kidpool. There has been a teaser of a Cowboypool in the preview, and set photos seem to confirm that there will also be a “Handsome Deadpool” played by a non-made up Ryan Reynolds in a wig.

I’ll admit, I have been worried this movie is just going to be a cameo fest like Spider-Man: No Way Home, but after the last trailer, it does look like there are real emotional stakes for both Logan and Wade.

Catch Deadpool and Wolverine when it comes to cinemas on July 26.

Superman: Set Photos Reveal Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner https://www.geekfeed.com/superman-set-photos-reveal-fillion-guy-gardner/ Fri, 05 Jul 2024 11:12:49 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83164 James Gunn’s Superman is currently undergoing production, and a lot of fans have been excited for the photos of the characters from the film including Mr. Terrific and the Man of Steel himself.  Now we have Nathan Fillion joining the set.

We know that there are several other heroes showing up in the movie, and some set photos (via Cleveland.com) have just revealed a look at Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Corps. member Guy Gardner. Check this out:

Not only do we get a look at Gardner, but the set photos have also revealed Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl. She doesn’t have the practical wings, but it does look like all three JSA members (including Mr. Terrific) are wearing uniforms.

Fans have also pointed out that each uniform I also sporting the Lordtech logo—as in DC villain Maxwell Lord. We know that Lex Luthor is going to show up in the film, but it does look like James Gunn is going to be kickstarting his new DC with established heroes and villains, and Max Lord can very well be running his own superteam as a PR stunt while Lex has his own nefarious plans going on at LexCorp.

It’s unclear how Gunn wants to approach his rebooted DCU, but seeing how Marvel has kind of stumbled since Endgame, it’s possible that Gunn and his writers team are thinking about a different way to approach the superhero franchise while making it future-proof.

We may not be seeing a Justice League team-up in the next couple of years, but hopefully Gunn has found a way to bring back the hype for superheroes after the alleged slump the genre has been on for the past few years.

Superman comes to cinemas on July 11, 2025.

HBO Officially Announces Lanterns Series from Watchmen and Ozark Showrunners https://www.geekfeed.com/lanterns-series-from-watchmen-showrunners/ Fri, 28 Jun 2024 14:18:25 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83065 It’s no mystery that 2011’s Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds was a critical flop. There had been several attempts at rebooting the franchise over the years to no success, but now it looks like things are finally starting to move forward at HBO.

Just in, we have an official announcement for Lanterns from Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen), and comic writer Tom King. Check this out:

According to Deadline, the show will focus on new Green Lantern recruit John Stewart as he is partnered up with the more seasoned Lantern Hal Jordan. Together, the two intergalactic cops will be drawn to a “dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”

Though Zack Snyder was never allowed to fully establish his new Green Lantern for the DCEU, it’s said that this Lanterns series will be incorporated into the new DC that James Gunn is going to establish with Superman next year.

The series was said to have undergone several changes in tone, and was at one point supposed to focus on more obscure Lanterns like Guy Gardner and Alan Scott; but now it looks like the show is going to focus on two of the most popular incarnations of the character.

So far, no cast has been announced for the series, but it would be great if they could establish a new Green Lantern Corps. as well as the existence of the other Lanterns in the spectrum. Personally, I was hoping for a big-budget film, but we’ll have to wait and see how the TV series is received.

No release date has been set for Lanterns, but we should expect a premiere on Max sometime in the next few years.

Jon Hamm Passed on Being Green Lantern because He Wanted to Be in Marvel https://www.geekfeed.com/jon-hamm-passed-on-being-green-lantern/ Fri, 21 Jun 2024 11:52:37 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82981 Jon Hamm is probably best known for playing the chainsmoking womanizer Don Draper in Mad Men, but he was almost very much a comic book superhero for the big screen.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Hamm shared that he was up for the role of Green Lantern back in 2011, but ultimately passed. He says, “That was one I definitely didn’t want to do… But I’ve pitched myself for a couple parts of the Marvel universe, I don’t want to say what exactly, but it was a part of a comic book that I really liked.”

Hamm didn’t share which part in the MCU he would like to get cast in, but he does share that he’s constantly in conversation with the studio, and it may be a matter of time before they find something right for him. “There were a lot of conversations, and I’m still in those. I talk to the guys that run Marvel and DC. And I’m a comic book nerd. So, we’ll see. Even that part of the industry is changing,” said Hamm.

With Don Draper being such an antihero of a character, a lot of people have been fancasting Hamm for more villainous roles like X-Men’s Mister Sinister or Fantastic Four’s Doctor Doom. Personally, I love it when Hamm can actually be a bit comedic with his roles, and I thought he would have been a fun washed up Wonder Man; but Yahya Abdul-Mateen II already has that covered, so we’ll just have to wait and see when Hamm can get onboard the MCU.

In the meantime, Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to come out in theatres on July 24.

Nathan Fillion to Play a Green Lantern in Superman: Legacy https://www.geekfeed.com/fillion-playing-green-lantern-in-superman-legacy/ Sat, 15 Jul 2023 17:11:12 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=77791 With James Gunn taking the helm for Superman: Legacy fans were wondering which of his friends were going to be showing up in the film. We don’t have any word on Michael Rooker or Shawn Gunn’s roles yet, but the movie has cast Nathan Fillion in a fan-favorite part.

According to Variety, Fillion has been cast as Green Lantern in Superman: Legacy, and not just any GL, but Guy Gardner. We don’t have any further details about Fillion’s version of Guy, but Gunn did tease that he could be getting his signature bowl cut from the comics, saying,Giving my old pal Nate a bowl cut might have been my primary reason for casting him.’

Though fans are usually familiar with Jon Stewart or Hal Jordan as Green Lanterns, Guy Gardner was a prominent figure in the 80s. Not the most heroic Lantern, Guy is considered a hot-head jerk whose heart is in the right place. Knowing Fillion’s penchant for comedic characters, it’s very likely his Gardner will be played for laughs, but we’ll just have to wait and see how he plays out onscreen.

I guess it’s also worth noting that Fillion did play TDK in Gunn’s Suicide Squad which is already set in the DCU, but since he kept his helmet on the whole time, I’m sure not too many people will be irked that Fillion will also be playing Guy Gardner.

Besides Fillion, the film has also cast other heroes including Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) as Hawkgirl and Edi Gathegi (X-Men: First Class) as Mr. Terrific; the movie has also cast Anthony Carrigan (Barry) as the shapeshifter Metamorpho. They’ll all be joining a cast which includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent.

Superman: Legacy is slated for a release in theaters on July 11, 2025.

Game of Thrones Actor in Talks to Play Sinestro for Green Lantern Series https://www.geekfeed.com/game-of-thrones-actor-in-talks-to-play-sinestro-for-green-lantern-series/ Fri, 02 Jul 2021 14:51:34 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60350 While some were holding out on Green Lantern Corps being released as a film, it looks like it’s going to be moving forward as a television series on HBO Max. Casting for the series has been slow and steady, and now we have news on who will play infamous DC villain Sinestro.

As per The Illuminerdi, Tobias Menzies (Game of Thrones, The Crown) is in talks to play Thaal Sinestro. While nothing seems to be set in stone yet, the character of Sinestro for the series is described as a ‘warrior monk’ and is the ‘greatest of all Green Lanterns.’

The latest actor to take on a live-action Sinestro role was Mark Strong in 2011’s Green Lantern film. While that film was a critical bomb, some fans still think that Strong was very well-cast with the role of Sinestro in that film, and it’s kind of a shame that we won’t be able to see him go all out.

I was honestly hoping they would bring back Strong’s Sinestro with this series, but with Strong already cast as Doctor Sivana in the Shazam! movies, it’s not likely he’ll be making a GL comeback.

Besides Menzies, the show has already cast Finn Wittrock as Guy Gardner and Jeremy Irvine as Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern. Some fans are also holding out that HBO Max keep Zack Snyder’s original pick for Jon Stewart, Wayne T. Carr, but as of now, we haven’t gotten any updates on the character.

No release date has been set for the Green Lantern series on HBO Max.

Finn Wittrock Cast in the Green Lantern HBO Max Series https://www.geekfeed.com/finn-wittrock-cast-in-the-green-lantern-hbo-max-series/ Wed, 05 May 2021 08:19:35 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=59380 While Snyder fans are campaigning to have Wayne T. Carr cast as the official Green Lantern of the DCEU, HBO Max is pushing forward with their GL series, and though we don’t know who the lead is, the show has found someone to play fan-favorite Guy Gardner.

As per Variety, Green Lantern has cast Finn Wittrock (American Crime Story) as the enigmatic Lantern. So far, Wittrock seems to be the only member of the cast, and we still don’t have any details as to where the series could go. We do know that HBO has ordered a first season of ten 1-hour episodes, and Seth Grahame-Smith will serve as showrunner.

In the comics, Guy Gardner is more of a side character and is meant to be a parody of the ultra-macho stereotype from the 80s. The character is generally used for comedy, and is best known for his bowl haircut and Green Lantern vest; recently he’s had a more modern look, but the macho persona is still pretty prevalent.

While Zack Snyder’s Justice League had been the perfect set-up for a Green Lantern Corps movie, it looks like WB is settling for a series on HBO Max. We don’t know what exactly they have planned for the character down the line, but with Lantern’s powers and alien characters, a lot of fans think the only way this could actually work is to have a big budget film. Then again, with the way that The Mandalorian has raised the bar for special effects in TV series, maybe a series could have some potential on HBO Max; and we could meet all the other lesser-known Lanterns as well.

No release date has been set for HBO Max’s Green Lantern series.

Zack Snyder Reveals His Original Choice for Green Lantern John Stewart https://www.geekfeed.com/zack-snyder-reveals-his-original-choice-for-green-lantern-john-stewart/ Mon, 19 Apr 2021 15:22:25 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=59166 Though Zack Snyder’s Justice League is meant to be everything Snyder wanted the film to be, there were still some compromises done with WB—one of them being an appearance from Green Lantern John Stewart. Snyder had apparently shot the scene with an actor, before WB asked him to take the part out. We don’t have any updates on a GL appearance in the DCEU, but Snyder did reveal who he picked to be his GL in Justice League.

During Justice Con (via GVN), Snyder revealed that he had shot a scene with actor Wayne T. Carr as Green Lantern John Stewart. Here’s the post:

“The actor who did the scene for us was a guy named Wayne T. Carr, and he’s an amazing actor, amazingly kind gentlemen.”

Originally, it was supposed to be the Lanterns (Stewart and Kilowog) who reveal themselves to Bruce Wayne at the end of the film, and the compromise with the studio was that they would have Martian Manhunter return instead.

Carr was said to be introduced to Snyder via Ray Fisher, and when he shot the scene, he was told that there was already a chance that it wouldn’t be in the movie. With the reveal though, you can bet that the relentless #RestoreTheSnyderVerse movement will now be bothering WB about making Carr the new GL.

Despite the excitement generated by Zack Snyder’s Justice League, WB has made it clear that they have ended Snyder’s story when it comes to the DCEU. We don’t know if they will eventually budge when it comes to the fans, but all this buzz online surely isn’t something they can just ignore. Hopefully when the pandemic dies down, they can come up with a better compromise that will please the fans and the creatives behind the films.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is now available on HBO Max.
