Now they’ve officially revealed the title for the next film. Here’s the official announcement:

Just in case the tweet doesn’t load, the movie will be called Jurassic World Rebirth and it will be hitting theatres on July 2025. Here are also some official stills with new leads Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali.

Though Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard won’t be making a return, the movie is still pretty much set in the same continuity as the rest of the Jurassic World films. The official synopsis (via Empire) reads:

Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.

“Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure genetic material from the world’s three most massive dinosaurs. When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on an island where they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades.”

With Rogue One, Godzilla, and The Creator director Gareth Edwards at the helm, fans are expecting this Jurassic World movie to have a very interesting sense of scale. With Creator also pushing the boundary for CG, it’s going to be interesting to see just what kinds of visuals Edwards and his team can come up with when it comes to Rebirth.

I’m just hoping that screenwriter David Koepp has a great story for Rebirth. Edwards has never been strong when it comes to narrative, but at least with him at the helm, we know we’re going to be in for one hell of a visual feast.

Fingers crossed we don’t have to wait too long for the trailer.

Jurassic World Rebirth is set to hit theatres on July 2025.

Next Jurassic World Film Taps Rogue One Director to Helm https://www.geekfeed.com/next-jurassic-world-film-taps-rogue-one-director/ Fri, 23 Feb 2024 10:46:52 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81153 Gareth Edwards had taken a huge break after the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and though the film isn’t perfect, there was still a lot to love about The Creator. Now it looks like Edwards is going to be taking on another huge IP with dinosaurs—and no, it isn’t Godzilla.

As per Deadline, Edwards has been tapped to direct the next Jurassic World film. Edwards was said to be the next choice after Deadpool 2 director David Leitch, and he was said to have wowed producers Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall.

No synopsis has been released for the next Jurassic World film, but the movie is said to be taking place in a completely new era; and we’re not expecting Chris Pratt or Bryce Dallas Howard to make a return—neither should we expect anyone from the OG cast like Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum to come back either.

Though the Jurassic World movies had not been critical darlings, they all did major bank in the box office, and Universal is pretty much committed to delivering more of these dinosaur films. With Dominion, the humans were left to co-exist with the dinosaurs loose on the Earth, and the next movie should show us just what kind of world the people have been living in after years of the dinosaurs once again making the Earth their home.

Does everyone live in domes so they can be safe from T-Rexes and pterodactyls? Can humans even still travel by sea safely if there are massive mosasaurs roaming the oceans?

With Edwards onboard, I’m sure we’re going to be in for a visual feast. Fingers crossed we get more details soon. The next Jurassic World movie is set to release on July 2, 2025.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Trailer Teases the Year’s Biggest Team-Up (Literally) https://www.geekfeed.com/godzilla-x-kong-the-new-empire-trailer/ Mon, 19 Feb 2024 16:34:50 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81097 The last “Monsterverse” film had Godzilla and King Kong fighting each other before taking on Mecha-Godzilla, and now the two are teaming up again to go up against an evil giant red monkey.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is set to release next month, and we have a new trailer showcasing the two forces of nature back to defend the Earth. Watch this:

The movie wasn’t able to bring back everyone that was in Godzilla vs. Kong, but the cast is a mix of familiar faces as well as some new characters.

Admittedly, the human characters have always been the weaker element of these Monsterverse films, but that shouldn’t keep everyone from enjoying the simple idea of gigantic monsters exchanging blows with one another in the middle of huge structures.

We don’t know how far along Legendary plans to keep this Monsterverse running, but with WB holding back on several iconic TOHO kaiju, it’s likely we’re going to be getting a handful of these films in the next few years.

Here’s the official description for the film:

The epic battle continues! Legendary Pictures’ cinematic Monsterverse follows up the explosive showdown of “Godzilla vs. Kong” with an all-new adventure that pits the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence—and our own. “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” delves further into the histories of these Titans and their origins, as well as the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire comes to cinemas on March 29.

Godzilla and More Appear in Trailer for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters https://www.geekfeed.com/godzilla-in-monarch-legacy-of-monsters-trailer/ Wed, 18 Oct 2023 12:30:22 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=79244 Godzilla will be clashing with King Kong again for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire next year, but Legendary has other plans with their entire Monsterverse—specifically on TV.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is set to release on Apple TV+ this November, and we have a new trailer connecting all the events from previous Monsterverse films including Godzilla (2014) and Kong: Skull Island. Watch this:

The official description reads:

Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco, and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch.

Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army Officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows.

Admittedly, I did think that Wyatt and Kurt Russell would be playing father and son in the series, but it does look like Wyatt is going to be going period for this show and is going to be playing the younger version of Kurt’s character.

We also see some faces from the films who have also been connected to the monsters in some way, like John Goodman who we met way back in Kong: Skull Island. It looks like he’s going to be one of the earlier figures at Monarch before they become an organization that makes it their business to know all about the titans that could be roaming the Earth.

I just hope the series has enough budget to give us some great giant monster scenes. Hopefully Godzilla doesn’t just show up and roar once in the finale.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters premieres on Apple TV+ this coming Nov. 17.

The Creator Director Gareth Edwards Looks Back at Rogue One Reshoots https://www.geekfeed.com/gareth-edwards-looks-back-at-rogue-one-reshoots/ Mon, 09 Oct 2023 14:18:03 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=79077 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story may be a beloved film among Star Wars fans, but there was word going around that director Gareth Edwards was boxed out of the editing room to have Tony Gilroy takeover and oversee reshoots.

We don’t know exactly how much of it is true, but the fact that Edwards hasn’t made a film in 7 years since Rogue One can be kind of telling. In a recent interview with Happy Sad Confused though, Edwards talks about his Star Wars experience and how he feels about the film now. Watch this:

“Look, making films is very hard, right? And I got to make a film in probably the best world and story that I could ever hope to be offered. And the idea of nitpicking or complaining about some aspects of it feels very ungrateful… So even if I went back in time I wouldn’t do anything differently. At the end of the day people aren’t shouting at me across the street saying I ruined their childhood.”

Though a lot of fans would love a more honest take on how Edwards feels about his Star Wars experience, a lot of them did consider this answer to be the classy thing to say. Even if he was boxed out, a lot of fans still loved Rogue One, and a lot of the hype for The Creator is thanks to the positive reception of his Star Wars movie.

I also can’t help but think that his last sentence had to be a reference to other Star Wars directors; like Rian Johnson who is no doubt followed online by an endless stream of haters who didn’t like The Last Jedi. It’s crazy how he hasn’t had a complete meltdown on some fans online yet.

For now, watch out for Gareth Edwards’ The Creator now showing in theaters.

Godzilla vs. Kong Sequel Set for 2024 https://www.geekfeed.com/godzilla-vs-kong-sequel-set-for-2024/ Mon, 04 Jul 2022 05:14:46 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=69026 Ever since Legendary’s ‘Monsterverse’ started with Godzilla, a lot of fans thought the franchise was going to end with the clash between him and King Kong. What’s news is, we’re still getting more giant kaiju after Godzilla vs. Kong.

As per Variety, the untitled sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong is set to come out on March 15, 2024. We don’t know what the story could be about yet, but we should probably expect a return from this franchise’s version of SHIELD, Monarch, as well as either Kong or Godzilla—but this time, they’ll be teaming up.

Admittedly, it was kind of a shame that the pandemic forced Godzilla vs. Kong to be released digitally, but the movie still included exactly why fans expected of a giant monster movie franchise. If anything, the sudden inclusion of Mecha Godzilla kind of came out of nowhere, and it was pretty great to see something almost ridiculous be out to life in a Hollywood film.

Granted, there are still several Toho monsters that Legendary has yet to touch, and they could very much appear in a future Monsterverse movie. Gamera the giant turtle has been a popular choice among fans, but maybe they have other things in store. When are we going to watch Godzilla fight a giant Ultraman?? I’m pretty sure they can pull some kind of multiverse story and have them crossover with the Jaegers from Pacific Rim. You think Guillermo del Toro would be interested?

Catch the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel in theaters March 15, 2024.

Godzilla vs. Kong Sequel Starts Production Later This Year https://www.geekfeed.com/godzilla-vs-kong-sequel-starts-production-later-this-year/ Mon, 21 Mar 2022 11:49:11 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=64527 Though Legendary Entertainment was supposed to end its Monsterverse franchise with Godzilla vs. Kong, it looks like we’re going to be getting a sequel.

Variety reports that a sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong is set to start shooting in Australia later this year. We don’t have a title mentioned for the film (much less a director), but producer Eric McLeod does say:

“The highly skilled crews, first-rate facilities, and unique locations make filming in Australia a great experience. The support from both the federal government as well as Queensland has always been critical to our success in achieving a high level of filmmaking and an unparalleled audience experience.”

The production is said to be receiving money via Australia’s screen agency Screen Queensland and their ‘Production Attraction Strategy’. When the film starts production, it’s expected to provide jobs for 500 local cast and crew as well as 750 more extras.

Though Godzilla vs. Kong wasn’t able to come to theaters thanks to the pandemic, the film still managed to provide exactly what it promised, and then some. Nobody was expecting Mecha Godzilla to just come out of nowhere, but the film really managed to bring us a spectacle by having cinema’s most famous kaiju duke it out like a bunch of kids’ action figures.

No release date has been set for this next Monsterverse movie, but with production starting this year, I suspect we could get a release sometime in 2024; but that’s just my guess.

Apple TV Greenlights Godzilla Monsterverse Spinoff Series https://www.geekfeed.com/apple-tv-greenlights-godzilla-monsterverse-spinoff-series/ Mon, 24 Jan 2022 14:38:11 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=63595 It’s unclear what Legendary wants to do with the Monsterverse after Godzilla vs. Kong, but while fans wait for the giant lizard kaiju to come back to movie theaters, he’s going to have a mini-comeback in the small screen.

In an official post, Apple TV+ has announced that they will be producing a spinoff series of Legendary’s Monsterverse and it will feature Godzilla as well as the other titans in the films. Star Trek: Enterprise’s Chris Black will serve as showrunner, with Hawkeye’s Matt Fraction attached as executive producer. Here’s the official description:

Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the series explores one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.

Though the Monsterverse films have been cinematic spectacles, they have been bashed by critics and fans for having very unimpressive human storylines; it was a problem that was present in 2014’s Godzilla and the same can be said for 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong. The TV budget would likely minimize the occurrence of kaiju-fighting, but maybe this will offer the show the incentive to make the humans more interesting for once.

If anything, the films have only scratched the surface when it comes to Toho’s giant kaiju monsters. I’m still holding out for the giant turtle Gamera to appear; how about a giant Ultraman?

As of now, no release date has been set for this Godzilla Monsterverse spinoff series, but you can watch out for it on Apple TV+.

Godzilla vs. Kong Director in Talks to Helm Sequel https://www.geekfeed.com/godzilla-vs-kong-director-in-talks-to-helm-sequel/ Wed, 28 Apr 2021 12:51:03 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=59274 While a lot of people thought that Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise would end with a fizzle, Godzilla vs. Kong had released and got everyone excited for movies again. #ContinueTheMonsterverse had started trending, and now news is going around that the next entry in the franchise could be in the works.

As per THR, Adam Wingard, who had directed Godzilla vs. Kong, is in talks to direct the sequel. While we don’t know any plot details about it, word is going around that the title of the movie is going to be Son of Kong.

While Kong of the Monsters did tease a lot more kaiju down the line, the three main monsters in Godzilla vs. Kong ended up being Godzilla, Kong, and MechaGodzilla. Thankfully, there are a lot more Toho monsters that the franchise can choose from. We have yet to get a modern version of the giant turtle Gamera; how about an al-out war with a giant Ultraman? With the Pacific Rim franchise currently on the down-low, what are the odds that Legendary can just pull a multiverse story and have Jaegers clashing with the OG kaiju?

Though Godzilla vs. Kong may have been a success, the movie still suffers the same problem that the past three have, and that’s uninteresting human characters. Either Legendary has to find a way to solve that problem, or they can just lean in extra hard on the monster fights. Then again, that’s just my suggestion.

No release date has been set for Son of Kong, but you can catch Godzilla vs. Kong now available on HBO Max.
