Just in, Vanity Fair has revealed our first look at the movie, and not only does it include Mescal and Pascal, but Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, and Joseph Quinn as well. Check these out:

In the film, Mescal plays the part of Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Nielsen from the first movie). The character appeared as a child in Gladiator, but in this movie, he was apparently sent to North Africa away from the Roman Empire. Now that there are conquerors coming to take his homeland, Lucius is now met with an impossible decision.

On the other hand, there is Pedro Pascal’s Marcus Acacius. As it turns out, Acacius had served under the Maximus (Russell Crowe’s character) when he was still a Roman general. Pascal describes his character as someone who “learned from the best, so of course this code of honor is ingrained into his training and into his existence. But at the end of the day, he’s a different person. And that can’t change who he is. Maximus is Maximus, and that can’t be replicated. That just makes Acacius capable of different things.”

By the looks of it, Gladiator II seems to be embracing the reboot/sequel route. It may be on the same continuity as the first film, but this time Lucius is the one who is experiencing the transition from free man to slave.

After the divisive reception of Napoleon, I hope that Ridley Scott manages to knock this one out of the part after so many years in development.

Catch Gladiator II when it releases in theatres on Nov. 22.

Joaquin Phoenix is a Horribly Clever Tyrant in Latest Napoleon Trailer https://www.geekfeed.com/joaquin-phoenix-in-latest-napoleon-trailer/ Fri, 20 Oct 2023 09:55:05 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=79288 Joaquin Phoenix may have played a nervous wreck in Joker and Beau is Afraid, but he’s set to become one of history’s most legendary figures in Ridley Scott’s upcoming Napoleon biopic. The film is set to come out later in November, and we have a new trailer showcasing the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte.

Watch this:

The official description reads:

Directed by Ridley Scott from a screenplay by David Scarpa, “Napoleon” stars Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor and military leader. The film is an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine, played by Vanessa Kirby. The film captures Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary.

With Ridley Scott at the helm of the film, we should always expect some kind of dazzling visuals to go along with the drama around the characters. It’s also great that we get to see him reunited with Phoenix, who was infamously the villain of Scott’s Gladiator starring Russell Crowe.

Besides Phoenix who we know is going to deliver a powerhouse performance, we also see a lot of Vanessa Kirby who looks to be the woman behind a lot of Napoleon’s successes. Though we see Bonaparte win all of these battles with his strategic expertise, it’s going to be fascinating to see how he’s going to be manipulated by someone who doesn’t even have to wield a weapon.

Napoleon is set to come to theaters on Nov. 22.
