Who they gonna call? You!

 Strap on your proton pack and Meta Quest 2, and step into the world of Ghostbusters in immersive virtual reality.

Start your Ghostbusters HQ in a new city, San Francisco, and solve a deep mystery across a new chapter in the Ghostbusters universe.

Track, blast, and trap ghosts in gripping encounters by wielding iconic equipment. Go it alone, or as a team with up to three friends, in an extensive and engrossing co-op campaign. Continue the Ghostbusters’ legacy, protect the city from fiendish ghosts, and experience all the humor and frights from the beloved franchise.

We don’t know if we’re looking at gameplay yet, but it does give us a good idea of what the game could feel like, as well as a look at some of the other characters. I’ll admit, the ghost in the teaser seems to look more Monsters Inc. than Ghostbusters, but I’m sure they’ll try to up the spook factor when it comes to the next trailer.

While there is a signature look for the proton pack, I’m expecting this game to come up with an arsenal of different gadgets that would help players bust ghosts. Say what you will about 2016’s Ghostbusters, at least they brought in some new weapons besides the usual neutrona wand.

No release date has been set for Ghostbusters VR, but it will launch for the Meta Quest 2; hopefully sometime later this year.

As a Ghostbuster, join with other Ghostbusters to chase and trap ghosts in museums, prisons, hotels, and more, and capture the ghosts before they can fully haunt the areas.

 Or, as the Ghost, hide, sneak, surprise, scare, and of course, slime Ghostbusters and civilians until the everything has gone completely spooky. Use trickery, deception, and Ectoplasm to gain the upper hand and drive the Ghostbusters out.

With the last Ghostbusters video game being poorly received, this looks to be a return to form with the shooter format of the gameplay; but instead of playing a written-out narrative like the 2009 Ghostbusters game, this will be more about gameplay, with players allowed to create their own characters. There’s even participation from original Ghostbusters Ernie Hudson and Dan Aykroyd.

I guess it’s also worth noting that the developers behind this game, Illfonic, are also the ones who made Friday the 13^th: The Game was well as Predator: Hunting Grounds, so you can guess where they’re coming from. While I miss the story and humor of the 2009 Ghostbusters game, it’s going to be great to actually get into the role of the ghost and cause as much havoc as you can before you get busted.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed has no specific release date, but it’s expected to come to PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC sometime in the fourth quarter of 2022.
