As per insider Daniel Richtman (via @Feature_First), Edwards is being eyed to direct the Dune movie after Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Messiah. It’s not clear what Messiah is going to cover, but some assume it will showcase the downfall of Paul Atreides after he seizes control of the Imperium on Arrakis. People who read the books know that the Atreides family rules for several more generations after Paul, but at the very cost of their humanity.
One of Paul’s children literally turns into a worm/human hybrid and rules the Imperium for more than 3000 years.
Though Villeneuve has been central in bringing the world of Dune to live-action, he has said that his final project in the franchise is going to be Messiah; and whether he’s onboard for the fourth movie or not, Legendary is going to be pushing forward with the project.
If anything, Edwards does have an eye for spectacle, and should be the perfect successor for Dune. Admittedly, he still has a lot of work to do when it comes to is narratives; but maybe if he gets paired with a great writer, he could kickstart a new era of solid Dune films—no matter how weird they get.
For now, fans are just waiting to see how Villeneuve plans to end Paul’s story because they’ve clearly diverged from the books by the end of Part Two—specifically when it comes to Chani.
Watch out for Edwards’ Jurassic World Rebirth which comes to cinemas on July 2.
]]>The film is led by Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey and is set to release next year. Though we don’t have a trailer yet, we do have some official photos via Entertainment Weekly. Check these out:
Though most of the movie’s plot is under wraps for now, Edwards does tell EW a bit about the approach of the movie, with them attempting to recapture the magic of the original Jurassic Park from Steven Spielberg. Edwards explains:
“I can’t speak for Universal, but it did feel like a new trilogy, in a way… I’m not sure what their plans are, but it felt like the beginning of a brand-new chapter in this franchise. To me, it’s a giant love letter to Steven Spielberg and his earlier films. There are moments in this movie that remind me very much of Jaws. It’s like little greatest hits of all those aspects of his films that I loved growing up as a child. It’s essentially a little adventure odyssey across this island, a survival story, really.”
Edwards goes on to explain that they actually shot a lot of the film on location, and they had to bring everyone into an actual jungle, with actual wild animals. He says, “We kept it quiet from the actors as they spent a whole day wading through the same area. And there were giant spiders that were poisonous and stuff on the edge of the trees. You just wouldn’t point them out if you saw them. Just keep going!”
After his work on The Creator, Edwards has solidified himself as a visual auteur around the same level of Neill Blomkamp. Admittedly, his last movie wasn’t the best when it came to plot, but fans are hopeful that Rebirth will manage to rejuvenate Edwards’ career moving forward.
Jurassic World: Rebirth is set to release in theaters on July 2, 2025.
]]>Now they’ve officially revealed the title for the next film. Here’s the official announcement:

Just in case the tweet doesn’t load, the movie will be called Jurassic World Rebirth and it will be hitting theatres on July 2025. Here are also some official stills with new leads Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali.

Though Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard won’t be making a return, the movie is still pretty much set in the same continuity as the rest of the Jurassic World films. The official synopsis (via Empire) reads:
“Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.
“Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure genetic material from the world’s three most massive dinosaurs. When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on an island where they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades.”
With Rogue One, Godzilla, and The Creator director Gareth Edwards at the helm, fans are expecting this Jurassic World movie to have a very interesting sense of scale. With Creator also pushing the boundary for CG, it’s going to be interesting to see just what kinds of visuals Edwards and his team can come up with when it comes to Rebirth.
I’m just hoping that screenwriter David Koepp has a great story for Rebirth. Edwards has never been strong when it comes to narrative, but at least with him at the helm, we know we’re going to be in for one hell of a visual feast.
Fingers crossed we don’t have to wait too long for the trailer.
Jurassic World Rebirth is set to hit theatres on July 2025.
]]>According to insider Daniel RPK (via @HollywoodHandle), Colman Domingo (Euphoria, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) is being eyed to play the main antagonist of what is being dubbed as Jurassic City. We don’t have any details on what his role could be, but if we’re keeping to the themes of the franchise, it will probably have something to do with a scientist who is in over their head trying to achieve some kind of immoral goal with the dinosaurs.
Funnily enough, after playing Unicron for the Transformers, Domingo is also said to have been eyed to replace Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror in the MCU. We don’t know how far that deal has gone, Domingo has been getting more attention recently, and all he really needs is a role in the spotlight to solidify his name as a strong talent.
Who knows, maybe a starring role as the antagonist of the next Jurassic movie could make Marvel’s mind up on taking him on as Kang. Then again, it will have to depend on how great the part is.
We don’t know much about the next Jurassic movie, but hopefully it will bring us back to this new alternate reality where dinosaurs have been released on the Earth, and humans will have to find a way to co-exist peacefully.
The next Jurassic World movie is said to be aiming for a release on July 2, 2025.
]]>As per Deadline, Edwards has been tapped to direct the next Jurassic World film. Edwards was said to be the next choice after Deadpool 2 director David Leitch, and he was said to have wowed producers Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall.
No synopsis has been released for the next Jurassic World film, but the movie is said to be taking place in a completely new era; and we’re not expecting Chris Pratt or Bryce Dallas Howard to make a return—neither should we expect anyone from the OG cast like Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum to come back either.
Though the Jurassic World movies had not been critical darlings, they all did major bank in the box office, and Universal is pretty much committed to delivering more of these dinosaur films. With Dominion, the humans were left to co-exist with the dinosaurs loose on the Earth, and the next movie should show us just what kind of world the people have been living in after years of the dinosaurs once again making the Earth their home.
Does everyone live in domes so they can be safe from T-Rexes and pterodactyls? Can humans even still travel by sea safely if there are massive mosasaurs roaming the oceans?
With Edwards onboard, I’m sure we’re going to be in for a visual feast. Fingers crossed we get more details soon. The next Jurassic World movie is set to release on July 2, 2025.
]]>According to insider Daniel RPK (via ComicBookMovie), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and The Creator director Gareth Edwards is being eyed for a fifth Thor film. We don’t have any details on what the story could be, but Chris Hemsworth himself has pitched that maybe the next appearance of Thor could be the last. He says, “I feel like we’d probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, you know what I mean?… You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don’t know…am I at that stage? Who knows?”
While fans thought that Love and Thunder would have Jane Foster taking on the Thor role moving forward, her character dying kind of caught everyone by surprise, and instead we have a Thor embracing the life of a single father with Gorr’s daughter becoming his ward.
We don’t know where Marvel plans to go with the character moving forward, but there have been comics about Thor outliving everyone and becoming an older god going up against cosmically gigantic odds.
Perhaps the MCU could just tell an alternate future timeline with an older Thor which would mark another hard reboot of the property, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
Let’s also not forget his brother Loki is now the one holding all the timelines together. Maybe a reunion is possible with both variants uniting in some way?
A fifth Thor film hasn’t been officially announced.
]]>We don’t know exactly how much of it is true, but the fact that Edwards hasn’t made a film in 7 years since Rogue One can be kind of telling. In a recent interview with Happy Sad Confused though, Edwards talks about his Star Wars experience and how he feels about the film now. Watch this:
I asked Gareth Edwards about all the ROGUE ONE rumors over the years and he couldn’t have given a classier answer.

— Josh Horowitz (@joshuahorowitz) September 28, 2023
“Look, making films is very hard, right? And I got to make a film in probably the best world and story that I could ever hope to be offered. And the idea of nitpicking or complaining about some aspects of it feels very ungrateful… So even if I went back in time I wouldn’t do anything differently. At the end of the day people aren’t shouting at me across the street saying I ruined their childhood.”
Though a lot of fans would love a more honest take on how Edwards feels about his Star Wars experience, a lot of them did consider this answer to be the classy thing to say. Even if he was boxed out, a lot of fans still loved Rogue One, and a lot of the hype for The Creator is thanks to the positive reception of his Star Wars movie.
I also can’t help but think that his last sentence had to be a reference to other Star Wars directors; like Rian Johnson who is no doubt followed online by an endless stream of haters who didn’t like The Last Jedi. It’s crazy how he hasn’t had a complete meltdown on some fans online yet.
For now, watch out for Gareth Edwards’ The Creator now showing in theaters.
]]>The movie is set to release in theaters later this month, and we have a final trailer that really gives us a great look at this world of humans and robots. Check this out:
The official synopsis for the film reads:
As a future war between the human race and artificial intelligence rages on, ex-special forces agent Joshua is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI. The Creator has developed a mysterious weapon that has the power to end the war and all of mankind.
As Joshua and his team of elite operatives venture into enemy-occupied territory, they soon discover the world-ending weapon is actually an AI in the form of a young child.
As you can see from the preview, the visuals of the film are no less than stunning; which can be expected of a director like Edwards. Besides his work on Rogue One, he was also at the helm for the remake of the Godzilla film that would launch Legendary’s ‘Monsterverse’.
Admittedly, there isn’t that huge of a market when it comes to artsy science fiction, but maybe with enough buzz, The Creator could turn out to be one of the most memorable films of the year. We’ll just have to wait and see till it releases to find out.
The Creator is set to hit cinemas on Sept. 29.
]]>Check this out:
The film doesn’t have an extensive synopsis yet, but the setting is described to be in a world where there is a war between humans and AI, and it looks like the human Washington is playing is going to find himself defending a little robot girl who could have more humanity than we think.
Though Rogue One was considered a success by Lucasfilm, there was rumbling going around behind the scenes that Edwards himself was locked out of the editing room to have Andor creator Tony Gilroy takeover. We don’t know how much of that is actually true, but the fact that Edwards hasn’t released a film since Rogue One could be telling about his experience with Star Wars.
Despite all that drama, it looks like Edwards is coming back, and with some original IP this time, and all the shots in the trailer look absolutely stunning. We don’t know if Edwards will ever come back to Star Wars, but I hope that The Creator manages to bring in Dune-levels of hype at the box office.
The Creator hits theaters on Sept. 29.
]]>A new trailer just dropped for the film, and it promises a science-fiction adventure of epic proportions. Check this out:
The movie doesn’t have an extensive synopsis, but it does come with the description: Described as a post-apocalyptic thriller involving a future impacted by a war between humans and AI.
Seeing that this is Edwards’ first movie after seven years, you can imagine that there is going to be hype for the release, especially with fans of Rogue One. Admittedly, Edwards wasn’t the one to finish that movie for Lucasfilm, with Tony Gilroy said to have come in and compressed the ending; but there’s no denying that Edwards definitely has a flair for visuals and scale, and the world of The Creator looks amazing.
With the teaser selling a massive film, it’s curious why the movie didn’t get promoted earlier, but I guess films like Avatar: The Way of Water have the benefit of being a follow-up to an already successful first movie. Hopefully Edwards’ Rogue One status can be a major box office draw itself; even if you didn’t like Rogue One, the film looks so impressive visually you’ll have to see it come to life on the big screen.
The Creator is set to release in theaters on Sept. 29.
