The movie is set to come out in Christmas and has already been receiving a lot of positive buzz, and IMDb has dropped a new behind-the-scenes featurette giving us some insight on Eggers and his approach to the movie. Check this out:

“When I was eight or nine, with the help of my mom, we acquired a VHS of Nosferatu,” says Eggers, “… and was just really struck by how this version distilled the Dracula story into a very simple fairy tale. The past really speaks to me, so it’s most interesting for me to think about who we are and where we’re going from where we came from.”

Interestingly enough, Eggers has had the idea of adapting Nosferatu as far back as when he was in high school, and he wanted to turn it into a literal black and white stage play with actors wearing gray make-up and super titles in place of dialogue.

Though the story of Nosferatu was originally pretty simple, Eggers has said that he’s gone on to create more intricate stories for each of the characters, and that way it will still manage to connect to audiences. Hopefully it also sets it apart from the obvious adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Reviews are looking good for the movie, and horror fans can’t wait to have a fright-filled Christmas when Nosferatu comes to theatres on Dec. 25.

Death is Here in Latest Trailer for Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu https://www.geekfeed.com/latest-trailer-for-robert-eggers-nosferatu/ Thu, 03 Oct 2024 01:04:23 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=84549 Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu may be missing out on the Halloween hype, but it’s still making its presence known with a new trailer drop.

Just in, Focus has given us a new look at a remake of the first vampire movie ever made, and Eggers is sure to put his signature artistic flair on the movie. Check this out:

While a lot of fans were eager to have their first look at Bill Skarsgard in the full Count Orlok make up, the trailer still worked pretty hard to obscure him, and it’s possible that we may not be able to see Orlok in his full vampiric glory until the movie comes out in December.

Even if that was the case, the film still gives the spotlight to several A-listers in the movie including Willem Dafoe, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Emma Corrin, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

For context, Nosferatu was indeed an adaptation of Bram Stoker’s original Dracula, but since the filmmakers didn’t own the rights back in the 20s, they opted to just switch out the names of the characters—with Dracula becoming Orlok.

Despite the age of the film, Count’s Orlok’s original look still manages to keep its mark in pop-culture as an iconic movie monster design, with the hunched back, bald head, point ears, fangs, and long fingers.

He even managed to make a cameo in Spongebob Squarepants:

Here’s the official description for the movie:

“Robert Eggers’ NOSFERATU is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.”

Watch out for Nosferatu when it releases in theaters on Dec. 25.

Robert Eggers Promises a Horror-Filled Christmas in New Teaser for Nosferatu https://www.geekfeed.com/horrorful-christmas-in-new-teaser-for-nosferatu/ Wed, 26 Jun 2024 13:39:13 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83051 Auteur director Robert Eggers is best known for his period horror dramas like The VVitch and The Northman, and now he’s set to make his own spin on one of the oldest adaptations of Bram Stoker’s infamous Dracula.

Here’s the first teaser for Nosferatu:

Here’s the official description:

Robert Eggers’ NOSFERATU is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.

Bill Skarsgard is set to star as the titular Count Orlok, but oddly enough, they didn’t even reveal his Nosferatu look for this teaser—no doubt it’s something they’re saving for the full trailer. Though Skarsgard is a now show, we do have a look at all the other big names showing up in the film including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nicholas Hoult, and Emma Corrin. The film also brings back some of Eggers’ previous collaborators including Ralph Ineson and Willem Dafoe.

If you’ve watched an Eggers flick before, you’ll know that he can definitely set a mood, and while his last film The Northman wasn’t really a horror tale, a story like Nosferatu can make perfect use of Eggers’ signature style.

With the movie set to release in December, it’s possible that we could get our first look at Count Orlok around August. A lot of hype has been surrounding Skarsgard’s final look in the film. Eggers has even said about the look, “I’ll say that Bill has so transformed, I’m fearful that he might not get the credit that he deserves because he’s just… he’s not there.”

Catch Nosferatu when it drops in theatres this Christmas Dec. 25.

DIDI Trailer Promises an Asian-American Coming of Age Movie Set in 2008 https://www.geekfeed.com/didi-promises-an-asian-american-coming-of-age/ Sat, 25 May 2024 03:10:05 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82512 Jonah Hill had released a coming-of-age movie about skater kids in the 90s with Mid90s back in 2018, and now it looks like Focus Features wants to give us the same kind of story, only set in the late ‘00s.

Check out the trailer for DIDI from director Sean Wang:

Here’s the official description:

Dìdi (弟弟) is written and directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Sean Wang. The film is set in 2008 in the Bay Area, and is a funny, irreverent, and affecting ode to first-generation teenagers navigating the joy and chaos of adolescence as seen through the lens of a 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy, played by Izaac Wang (Good Boys, Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon).

The movie actually premiered on Sundance Film Festival this year and had received the US Dramatic Audience Award and the US Dramatic Special Jury Award for Best Ensemble Cast.

It’s also worth noting that “DIDI” (弟弟) in Chinese means “younger brother”.

Though the setting does look like Mid90s with the old-timey music, friends goofing around, pubescent romance, and skating, DIDI does set itself apart by telling the story of a child of immigrant parents having to grow up in America while their parents had a different culture.

It kind of looks like a more serious version of Hulu’s PEN15, but that show can get pretty serious when it needs to be and it also had an interesting lens on the Asian-American experience of growing up in the ‘00s.

Hopefully DIDI manages to wow everyone when it releases in theaters later this year. DIDI comes to cinemas on July 26.

Last Night in Soho Director Edgar Wright Helped Anya Taylor-Joy Land Furiosa https://www.geekfeed.com/edgar-wright-helped-anya-taylor-joy-land-furiosa/ Wed, 01 May 2024 17:35:34 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82150 Anya Taylor-Joy is no doubt one of the biggest actresses in Hollywood today, and she’s ready to take over the role of Furiosa in the Mad Max spinoff Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga directed by George Miller.

Though a lot of fans think they should have just brought Charlize Theron back to reprise the role, Miller and Taylor-Joy have revealed that director Edgar Wright (Baby Driver, Last Night in Soho) had helped sell the role to Taylor-Joy to Miller.

Talking to MovieMaker, Miller explained, “I knew from Edgar Wright just how good she was. And so that proved to be the case on this film — very, very rigorous about her role.” Taylor-Joy also shared that it was Wright who told her that Miller wanted to meet with her. She shares:

“I got a text from Edgar Wright, who said George Miller wants to talk to you, and immediately, just my whole body felt electrified.”

We don’t know what Wright is doing now, but he has admittedly started taking it slow since the release of Last Night in Soho. He has two films in the works called The Chain and The Running Man, but we haven’t heard much about those projects yet. Wright did celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Shaun of the Dead —no doubt his breakout film— earlier this month.

Going back to Miller though, a lot of fans have been excited for the return of the Mad Max world since Fury Road came out in 2015. A Mad Max-centered movie may have had a hard time getting off the ground, but maybe a Furiosa spinoff would be just as exciting.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is expected to release in theaters on May 24.

A Trope Becomes a Premise in Trailer for The American Society of Magical Negroes https://www.geekfeed.com/trailer-the-american-society-of-magical-negroes/ Mon, 18 Dec 2023 11:06:32 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80173 Director Spike Lee is considered to have coined the term “Magical Negro” in referring to black characters in fiction who solely exist to give mystical sage advice to white protagonists before suddenly disappearing. The trope has been going around even before Lee coined the term back in 2001, and now they’re making an entire movie around the concept.

Check out the trailer for The American Society of Magical Negroes:

Here’s the official description:

For centuries, there has been a society hidden in plain sight, working in secret to protect Black people from harm. It’s called THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MAGICAL NEGROES.

Admittedly, a lot of people thought the trailer was going to be some kind of ‘Black Harry Potter’ film, but the teaser ended up relying heavily on the rom-com elements that it led to a lot of people being disappointed. Here’s what some people on Twitter have been saying about the film:

A lot of people aren’t happy with the premise at all that a secret society of black people are in charge of white people’s happiness, and it’s kind of understandable. If anything, there is an interesting angle to the film, with the ‘magical negro’ being a supporting character that has to suddenly take charge and embrace becoming the main character of the film.

I guess a lot of negativity comes with the reputation of romantic comedies, but I love the genre, and I’m going to let the movie cook for a while before I start making judgements.

The American Society of Magical Negroes comes to theaters on March 22.

Robert Eggers on Bill Skargard’s Nosferatu Transformation, “He’s Not There” https://www.geekfeed.com/bill-skargards-nosferatu-transformation/ Wed, 29 Nov 2023 14:58:30 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=79837 After The Lighthouse and The Northman, director Robert Eggers is set to come back to the horror genre with a modern remake of Nosferatu. We don’t have a look at Bill Skarsgard’s Count Orlok in costume yet, but Eggers does tease his transformation.

Talking to Empire, Eggers explains, “I’ll say that Bill has so transformed, I’m fearful that he might not get the credit that he deserves because he’s just… he’s not there.” Though we’ve had many incarnations of Dracula over the decades with his slicked back hair and cape, Nosferatu manages to set himself apart with his more monstrous features with the huge hunched back, point ears, claws, bald head, and fangs.

Eggers continues to tease the look:

“I think the main thing is that he’s even more a folk vampire. In my opinion he looks like a dead Transylvanian nobleman, and in a way that we’ve never actually seen what an actual dead Transylvanian nobleman would look like and be dressed like.”

Though we don’t have a look at Skarsgard in costume yet, Empire has shared a first look at his co-star Lily-Rose Depp, who will be playing the part of Ellen Hunter, one of the main characters that Orlok will be terrorizing. Here’s a photo:

Lily-Rose Depp in Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu (2024) via Empire

Nosferatu may be the titular character of the film, but Eggers did also say that this movie is “eben more Ellen’s story than previous versions,” adding that Depp is also ‘absolutely phenomenal’ in the film.

Now I can’t wait to see it.

Egger’s Nosferatu has no specific release date yet, but we should expect it to come out sometime in 2024.

Asteroid City: How Wes Anderson Built a Small Town for the Movie https://www.geekfeed.com/asteroid-city-a-small-town-built-for-the-movie/ Sat, 24 Jun 2023 17:24:14 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=77417 June has a lot of huge blockbusters with films like Transformers and The Flash, but if none of that is to your preference, you can always check out the upcoming movie from modern auteur Wes Anderson called Asteroid City.

Anderson and his team actually built a huge set for the town, and thanks to Kodak, we have an in-depth look at just how everything was put together. Check this out:

Though Wes Anderson’s style has always been apparent with his movies, it looks like his most recent films have been the one to get more and more stylish, with Asteroid City taking place completely in a huge set.

Like any piece of Anderson’s work, the set does look interesting, and with all the symmetry and colors popping, you can bet that the movie is going to provide some much-needed respite from all the big comic book films that have been coming out during the month of June.

Despite the critical praise for The French Dispatch, a lot of fans considered it to be one of the harder Anderson movies to swallow. Hopefully Asteroid City will offer that mass appeal that will bring in a much wider audience.

Here’s the synopsis for the film:

The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

Asteroid City is set to release in theaters on June 16.

Wes Anderson Tackles Sci-Fi in New Trailer for Asteroid City https://www.geekfeed.com/wes-anderson-tackles-sci-fi-in-asteroid-city/ Sat, 01 Apr 2023 17:25:51 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76088 Modern cinematic auteur Wes Anderson had released his last film The French Dispatch back in 2021, and now he’s ready to tackle a science-fiction story with his upcoming film Asteroid City.

Just in, we have a new star-studded trailer which includes the likes of Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Maya Hawke, and Jason Shcwartzman. Check this out:

Here’s the official synopsis:

ASTEROID CITY takes place in a fictional American desert town circa 1955. Synopsis: The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

Admittedly, the trailer only focuses on a handful of stars in the film like Schwartzman, Johansson, and Hanks, but the credits list include several veterans of Anderson’s work including Willem Dafoe, Edward Norton, Jeff Goldblum, Tilda Swinton, and Jeffrey Wright; of course, we also have some new collaborators like Maya Hawke, Sophia Lillis, and Steve Carrell.

Like Christopher Nolan or Edgar Wright, Anderson is one of the few directors that manage to turn heads on a project just because he’s attached to the helm. With Marvel and other blockbusters currently dominating the market, it’s great that this year we’re going to be getting a new story from Anderson—and this time leaning into his version of science fiction–something he’s barely touched on before.

Asteroid City comes to theaters on June 16.

Champions: Woody Harrelson Coaches Special Basketball Team in New Trailer https://www.geekfeed.com/champions-woody-harrelson-coaches-basketball/ Tue, 06 Dec 2022 11:24:16 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=72330 The Farrelly Brothers were once comedy legends around the early ‘00s, but they’ve since slowed down when it comes to their movie releases. Just in, we have a new trailer for Champions from Bobby Farrelly, and it has Woody Harrelson coaching a basketball team full of special kids.

Check this out:

Here’s the official description:

Woody Harrelson stars in the hilarious and heartwarming story of a former minor-league basketball coach who, after a series of missteps, is ordered by the court to manage a team of players with intellectual disabilities. He soon realizes that despite his doubts, together, this team can go further than they ever imagined.

Besides Harrelson, the film also stars Ernie Hudson and Kaitlin Olson.

I’ll admit, it’s kind of refreshing to see a trailer for a lighthearted feel-good movie. I mean, there’s some great comedy films coming out today, but sometimes it feels like each film is trying to push certain boundaries—even Harrelson starred in the non-conventional comedy movie Triangle of Sadness.

Champions looks like a return to a classic formula that I think a lot of audience members could appreciate. After all, Bobby Farrelly is one-half of the team that brought us comedy gold like Dumb and Dumber , There’s Something about Mary, and Shallow Hal. Maybe this movie can get the director duo back on the helm for the future. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Champions is set to come to theaters on March 24, 2023.

The Northman had to Use CG Genitals in Nude Fight Scene for Safety https://www.geekfeed.com/the-northman-had-to-use-cg-genitals-in-nude-fight-scene-for-safety/ Tue, 26 Apr 2022 08:49:13 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=64985 With Robert Eggers at the helm, a lot of people are expecting The Northman to have some bizarre visuals, and one scene apparently has a nude sword fight between Alexander Skarsgard and Claes Bang. What’s funny is that, the two needed to have their genitals added with CG because it was too dangerous to just let it all hang.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Eggers explained:

‘We actually had to add things digitally because they were wearing thongs [instead of being naked] because no one wanted to get their bits chopped off. So, we actually had to add some CG genitals for certain shots so that they didn’t look too Ken doll-ish. You’ve got to make it look real, so I’m sure we did some full-body scans of Alex. They’re out there.’

Before the release of The Northman, there was a lot of tension on whether the film would do well in the box office. While Eggers is a renowned director, his films aren’t really considered ‘general audience-friendly’. Even Eggers himself has publicly talked about how he had to fight with the studio when it came to this film.

So far, critical reception for the movie has been great, but that doesn’t really mean that it will make its money back in the box office. Critics sung their praises for Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, but that was still considered a flop when it finally released in theaters.

Fingers crossed that some audiences give The Northman a chance. I mean, after Morbius, aren’t some people kind of looking for a break from comic book films?

From visionary director Robert Eggers comes THE NORTHMAN, an action-filled epic that follows a young Viking prince on his quest to avenge his father’s murder. With an all-star cast that includes Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Björk, and Willem Dafoe.

Catch The Northman now in theaters.

First Trailer for The Northman Promises Viking Revenge https://www.geekfeed.com/first-trailer-for-the-northman-promises-viking-revenge/ Wed, 29 Dec 2021 05:45:54 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=63077 Robert Eggers has proven he has a very unique voice in modern filmmaking with films like The Witch and Lighthouse, and now he’s teaming up with Focus Features for this Viking epic The Northman. Check out the first trailer starring Alexander Skarsgard, Nicole Kidman, and some Eggers alumni.

Here’s the official description:

From visionary director Robert Eggers comes THE NORTHMAN, an action-filled epic that follows a young Viking prince on his quest to avenge his father’s murder. With an all-star cast that includes Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Björk, and Willem Dafoe.

If you’ve watched Eggers’ previous movies, you’ll know that he’s brought back leads from The Witch (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Lighthouse (Willem Dafoe). The cast list also includes other Witch supporting cast Ralph Ineson and Kate Dickie, plus Game of Thrones’ Mountain actor Thor Bjornson.

The film also has some interesting casting with Björk who is acting out a part for the first time in a long while.

With A24 having a very specific brand of film, Eggers’ work is a shining example of what kind of content the studio pumps out. With Focus Features distributing this movie though, I have a feeling The Northman is going to be something more commercially friendly. Don’t get me wrong, the trailer still feels a lot like an Eggers film, but there’s just something in the preview that makes me feel like this one is not going to alienate the general audience.

It’s just a feeling.

Catch The Northman when it comes out April 22, 2022.

Edgar Wright Goes Horror in First Trailer for Last Night in Soho https://www.geekfeed.com/edgar-wright-goes-horror-in-first-trailer-for-last-night-in-soho/ Thu, 27 May 2021 00:52:26 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=59675 With films like Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, director Edgar Wright has been known for his action/comedies with snappy direction. Now he’s set to go full horror movie with his next film Last Night in Soho.

Watch the trailer for Last Night in Soho down here:

The official description reads:

Edgar Wright’s psychological thriller about a young girl, passionate in fashion design, who is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s where she encounters her idol, a dazzling wannabe singer. But 1960s London is not what it appears, and time seems to fall apart with shady consequences…

The film looks to have Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit) and Anya Taylor-Joy (Queen’s Gambit) in the spotlight, but the film also has Matt Smith and Terence Stamp credited in the cast. What’s more, the movie also has an appearance from Game of Thrones’ Diana Rigg, who had passed away last year.

Harry Potter fans will also be happy to see twins James and Oliver Phelps, who had played the mischievous Fred and George Weasley in the Potter movies.

Admittedly, I wasn’t expecting Last Night in Soho to be a horror film, but knowing Wright and his homages to several genres, it’s going to be interesting to see him go all out when it comes to horror. Taylor-Joy has also had a penchant playing the ‘victimized girl’ in scary movies, so it would be great to see her take on the role of the ‘tormentor’ this time.

Catch Last Night in Soho when it comes out Oct. 22.
