The third season is now nearing its finale, and HBO has announced that they want more of Danny McBride’s show about criminal televangelists.

Here’s the announcement for The Righteous Gemstones Season 4:

We don’t have any details about where the next season could be going, but for now the show is tackling the family undergoing a major shake-up, what with Eli Gemstone’s (John Goodman) retirement as well as the Gemstones’ clash with a religious cult being run by Steve Zahn.

It’s unclear where the series is going toward by the end of the season, but we do know that family and succession is a major theme for the series, and it will be up to the Gemstone siblings to find out just how their religious empire is going to be run. Not only do they fight among each other, but they somehow have to fend off other threats from outside the family, including rival evangelist groups as well as anyone looking to expose their criminal exploitation of the faithful.

So far, the series has been consistently fantastic, and you have to hand it to the main three Gemstones played fantastically by McBride, Edi Patterson, and Adam DeVine. It’s unclear how long they want this train to go, but I suspect the final season will end with Eli finally dying and Edi’s husband BJ somehow ending up running the whole thing.

No release date has been announced for The Righteous Gemstones Season 4, but you can catch the series now streaming on Max.

The Lord’s Work Must be Done in Trailer for The Righteous Gemstones 3 https://www.geekfeed.com/trailer-for-the-righteous-gemstones-3/ Sat, 03 Jun 2023 16:07:27 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=77066 Succession may have ended on HBO already, but the network is ready to release their follow-up season of a show following another dysfunctional rich family.

The Righteous Gemstones is set to premiere with their third season in a few weeks, and we have the main trailer showcasing the returning Gemstones and their new gun-toting adversaries. Check this out:

“When the spoiled Gemstone children finally get their wish to take control of the Church, they discover leadership is harder than they imagined and that their extravagant lifestyle comes with a heavy price.”

Like every season of Gemstones, it looks like the third season is going to contain all the things we love about the show from the hilarious incompetence of the three Gemstone siblings to the surprising violence that seems to follow them all around.

While they’ve had bouts with other religious organizations before, it looks like the Gemstones have made another dangerous enemy in this new gun-toting cult calling themselves the ‘Brothers of Tomorrow’s Fire’. Though they do seem like a Manson-type hippie group, they’ve made themselves vastly different by having each member tout their own assault rifles.

The Righteous Gemstones has always been a crazy show that manages to surprise with their antics besides delighting with their humor. Not only does the main trio of Danny McBride, Adam DeVine, and Patterson absolutely kill with their chemistry, but the series also has a host of fantastic supporting characters including John Goodman as the Gemstone patriarch Eli and Walton Goggins as the hilariously-named Uncle Baby Billy Freeman.

The Righteous Gemstones Season 3 premieres on HBO Max on June 18.

Praise Be to He in Trailer for The Righteous Gemstone Season 3 https://www.geekfeed.com/trailer-for-the-righteous-gemstone-season-3/ Wed, 17 May 2023 17:45:34 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76825 We know all about dysfunctional families on television, but the Gemstones from HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones are a special kind of crazy hilarious. The third season of the series is set to premiere this June, and we have a new trailer showcasing the shenanigans of the highly toxic televangelist family.

Check this out:

We don’t have a direct breakdown of the plot synopsis, but it looks like the Gemstones will be running into a different kind of religious group in the form of a cult run by Steve Zahn (The White Lotus). Though they do look like some Manson-era hippies, their love for guns (and hate for the Gemstones) could make them some formidable opponents for the Gemstone family.

Speaking of family, it looks like Uncle Baby Billy (Walton Goggins) is back to his old shenanigans. Though not a Gemstone himself, Billy did get a significant arc in the last season, and we should expect him to be trying to make ends meet again, no matter what it takes; be it slinging fake medicine pills or taking advantage of his religious celebrity.

Danny McBride has always been great when it comes to his brand of comedy, and after Vice Principals, The Righteous Gemstones manages to keep being outrageous and crazy. We don’t know how long they plan to run the show, but as long as Jesse, Judy, and Kelvin are idiots, they will always have something interesting to tackle every season.

Watch out for The Righteous Gemstones when it premieres on HBO Max on June 18.

The Righteous Gemstones 2 Brings Back the Family https://www.geekfeed.com/the-righteous-gemstones-2-brings-back-the-family/ Tue, 28 Dec 2021 05:31:50 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=63045 After Last Week Tonight had pointed out what was wrong with the world of televangelists, HBO had decided to go all in on the premise of crooked religious figures with The Righteous Gemstones. The crazy family is back for a second season, and we have our first full trailer.

Check this out the new Gemstones trailer down here:

While the first season was extensive in pointing out how religious figures like the Gemstones abuse their followers, it looks like the second season has found other unexplored avenues when it comes to religious abuse. They even managed to get Eric Andre to play another “spiritual leader”.

Though the main characters of the show are crooked spiritual leaders, the first season doesn’t really condemn them as “evil” people; rather, the Gemstones are given an antagonist in the form of some blackmailers extorting them for money. Now it looks like they’re going up against a journalist (Jason Schwartzman) who wants to expose their way of life; and of course, the Gemstones won’t have it.

The first season of Gemstones isn’t perfect, but the show does have some fun characters, and you love to watch the Gemstone “kids” bicker amongst themselves as they try to bring the Word of God of their followers. While I am waiting for the series to have something more meaningful to say about religious abuse, it’s still a fun ride watching Danny McBride, Adam DeVine, and Edi Patterson bring the laughs.

The Righteous Gemstonesi return for a second season this Jan. 9 on HBO Max.
