Everyone in the crew is doing their press tour, and director Denis Villeneuve has decided to share an interesting opinion on television and movies.

Talking to Variety, Villeneuve explains how he thinks that television has seemingly ‘corrupted’ his beloved film medium. He explains:

“Frankly, I hate dialogue. Dialogue is for theatre and television. I don’t remember movies because of a good line, I remember movies because of a strong image. I’m not interested in dialogue at all. Pure image and sound, that is the power of cinema, but it is something not obvious when you watch movies today. Movies have been corrupted by television. In a perfect world, I’d make a compelling movie that doesn’t feel like an experiment but does not have a single word in it either. People would leave the cinema and say, ‘Wait, there was no dialogue?’ But they won’t feel the lack.”

If you’ve watched Villeneuve movies, you can kind of understand where he’s coming from. His dialogue and character interaction during scenes is usually considered the weaker part of his movies, but he definitely makes up for it with sound, visuals, and overall atmosphere.

With him admitting that he doesn’t really prioritize dialogue, it kind of contextualizes that part about his films. Kind of like how Christopher Nolan also says that some movies need to be ‘felt’ rather than understood—specifically TENET.

For now, fans await Dune: Part Two, and hopefully Villeneuve immediately gets the greenlight for Dune: Part Three after the premiere.

Dune: Part Two comes to theaters on March 1.

Florence Pugh Confirms Thunderbolts has Started Shooting https://www.geekfeed.com/pugh-confirms-thunderbolts-has-started-shooting/ Thu, 29 Feb 2024 16:39:16 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81247 Florence Pugh has steadily grown to be one of the most in-demand actresses in the industry today, and after projects like Oppenheimer and Dune: Part Two, everyone is wondering if she was still going to stay for Marvel Studios’ villain-centric team-up—Thunderbolts.

As it turns out, the movie has apparently started shooting. Talking to ET (via @tbolt_news) during the Dune red carpet, Pugh confirms that she’s already started shooting scenes for the movie. Watch this:

https://twitter.com/tbolts_news/status/1762199244058837085

“I’ve just started my next Marvel movie, Thunderbolts. I’ve been shooting that, and I just can’t believe I’ve been able to—I couldn’t make it [to the SAG Awards] last night unfortunately because I was working, but I managed to squeeze this one in; so I’m very grateful that I’ve managed to juggle all of them at the same time.”

Pugh hasn’t given an update on what we should expect from her in the film, but she has already shown up in several Marvel Studios projects—one of which was Hawkeye where she was paired up with Hailee Steinfeld.

Pugh is no doubt a solid actress, and is expected to stick around in the MCU for a while, but based on all the projects that she’s been getting recently, some are suspecting that Marvel will have to work pretty hard to keep her around.

I’m hoping that Pugh will be a good sport about it; I mean, even Scarlett Johansson was able to keep doing Black Widow around all of her non-Marvel work.

Marvel’s Thunderbolts is expected to release in theatres on May 2, 2025.

Stellan Skarsgard Updates on Andor 2 https://www.geekfeed.com/stellan-skarsgard-updates-on-andor-2/ Thu, 08 Feb 2024 16:41:53 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80942 Stellan Skarsgard may be returning as Baron Harkonnen in the upcoming Dune sequel, but he’s also found a great new character in the Star Wars universe in the form of Luthen Rael from Disney+’s Andor.

The second season of Andor is currently in the works, and Skarsgard is expected to return again. We don’t know exactly where Luthen ends up by the time of A New Hope, but Skarsgard did tell io9, “I’m satisfied where it goes, yeah… It’s such good writing and it’s Tony Gilroy, I really like to say his lines.”

Though the Rebel Alliance has all kinds of figureheads including Mon Mothma, Luthen is an interesting addition to the faction as he is still very anti-Empire, but he has no qualms about using their very own tactics and methods against them. He’ll outright sacrifice others if it means that the Rebellion can succeed.

His character is pretty much summed up in this dark monologue from the first season:

Like I said, Luthen’s fate is pretty much up in the air, but as of now, fans theories are flying wild about where he ends up. Personally, I like the fan theory that Luthen is actually Palpatine’s brother which could add to the twin theme of Star Wars—one being light and the other dark.

I also like the idea that if Luthen was a Palpatine, that would also make him Rey’s grand-uncle; justifying Rey’s past despite being related to the Emperor. Kind of like the same situation in Avatar: The Last Airbender where Zuko’s grandfathers were the Avatar and the Fire Lord.

Then again, it’s just fan theories.

The next season of Andor still has no release date, but a 2025 release is expected.

Denis Villeneuve Wants to Make Dune Messiah https://www.geekfeed.com/denis-villeneuve-wants-to-make-dune-messiah/ Tue, 29 Aug 2023 15:12:53 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=78430 Dune: Part Two may have been delayed to next year, and a lot of fans think this will mark the end of the adaptations of Frank Herbert’s seminal book. What’s interesting is, director Denis Villeneuve actually wants the franchise to be a trilogy.

Talking to Empire, Villeneuve says that he wants to adapt Dune Messiah, Herbert’s follow-up to the original Dune. Villeneuve explains:

“If I succeed in making a trilogy, that would be the dream… Dune Messiah was written in reaction to the fact that people perceived Paul Atreides as a hero… Which is not what he wanted to do. My adaptation [of Dune] is closer to his idea that it’s actually a warning… After that the books become more… esoteric.”

As of now, there hasn’t been anything announced about a sequel, but Villeneuve is already preparing. He couldn’t go into much detail, but he does confirm, “I will say, there are words on paper.”

It has been said that Dune was considered unadaptable by movie standards since the property was more about ideas and thoughts rather than action, but you can’t deny that the world-building is definitely fantastic, and there are still spectacles to be had with the story.

It was actually surprising for a lot of audiences that a Dune sequel was greenlit, given how niche science fiction has become as a genre. I guess the studio is really hoping that if the IP isn’t enough to bring people in, then the star power of Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, and the rest probably would.

Dune: Part Two is set to hit cinemas on March 15, 2024.

Dune: Part Two Delayed to 2024 Amid Strike https://www.geekfeed.com/dune-part-two-delayed-to-2024-amid-strike/ Tue, 29 Aug 2023 08:04:34 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=78406 The WGA and SAG AFTRA Strike rages on, and while some studio heads may be content with waiting for the writers and actors to run out of steam, it looks like the industry has just taken one massive blow with a delay of one of the biggest movies of the year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two has been moved from its November release date to March 15, 2024. This has also caused the studio to push back several other films including Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire as well as the animated Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.

Suprisingly, the studio is still keeping their releases set for December which includes movies like The Color Purple, Wonka, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Actors for Dune: Part Two were expected to start promotion next month, but seeing that the strike still has no end in sight, it looks like the studios don’t want to risk the marketing of the film—which is half the battle. Some actually speculate that part of The Flash’s poor reception and hype was because star Ezra Miller wasn’t allowed to do any of the press; and the only thing audiences were hearing about them online were their altercations in Hawaii.

With Dune: Part Two having a star-studded cast which includes Zendaya, Timothee Chalamet, Javier Bardem, Austin Butler, Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson, Lea Seydoux, and more, the studio may not want to waste all that star power when it comes to the promotion of their big-budget sci-fi epic.

Watch out for Dune: Part Two when it comes out March 15, 2024.

The Spice Must Flow in Latest Trailer for Dune: Part Two https://www.geekfeed.com/latest-trailer-for-dune-part-two-released/ Mon, 03 Jul 2023 16:30:16 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=77530 Dune fans held their breath when Denis Villeneuve’s Dune released mid-pandemic, but we’re getting a sequel, and we’re set to see the rise of Paul Atreides and the Fremen. Just in, we have a new trailer, and it gives us our first look at Christopher Walken as the Emperor and Austin Butler as the Harkonnen golden boy, Feyd Rautha.

Check this out:

Here’s the synopsis:

“Dune: Part Two” will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

Though cast members from the first movie like Jason Momoa and Oscar Isaac won’t be coming back, the trailer does confirm that Josh Brolin’s Gurney Halleck will be coming back, as well as Dave Bautista’s Glossu Rabban.

As for new cast members, we have Florence Pugh’s Princess Irulan as well as Lea Seydoux who is playing another member of the Bene Gesserit. Tim Blake Nelson was also said to have joined the cast, but we have yet to see what his character will look like in the movie.

Admittedly, fans were surprised when Dune managed to get a sequel greenlit. Though Villeneuve is a critical darling, his projects are known to be theatrical flops, like with Blade Runner 2049. Hopefully Dune: Part Two manages to engage a bigger audience this time around.

Dune: Part Two releases in theaters on Nov. 3.
