Too bad for anyone waiting though, because it looks like Lucasfilm won’t be pushing forward with the show.

Talking to Collider, series head Justin Simien has confirmed that the series has been cancelled despite going into deep development over the past few years. Simien explains, “It was pretty developed. Yeah, there was a Bible, there was concept art, there were scripts, but it just wasn’t meant to be.”

We don’t know specifically why Lucasfilm would decide to shelve the project, but Simien does say that he’s taking the cancellation pretty hard. He continues, “For me, the answer is that you have to really face it. It is true grief. I’ve never had a child, I’ve never lost a child, but it’s what I imagine that pain might be like. You pour so much of your heart and soul into something, but ultimately, you don’t have control over whether it lives or dies, and it is a true grieving process.”

So far, Star Wars has been kind of in the same boat as Marvel in that they’ve been trying to throw noodles at a wall and waiting to see what sticks. Though we get some great shows like Andor, there have also been some duds like The Book of Boba Fett and the Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff (which I insist should have been a film).

Who knows, maybe Lucasfilm will decide to revisit the Lando series someday, but with Glover being as busy as he is, they may have to wait a few more years. I wouldn’t say no to a movie instead.

For now, the recent Star Wars series, The Acolyte has just completed its first season and is now available to stream on Disney+.

Six Seasons and a Movie!: Dan Harmon Updates on Community Movie Script https://www.geekfeed.com/harmon-updates-on-community-movie-script/ Tue, 27 Feb 2024 09:08:17 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81229 It’s been almost ten years since the cult show Community ended, but everyone is still waiting for the movie to finally come out. Donald Glover had recently said that the script for the film was already done, but show creator Dan Harmon himself has a more accurate update on the status of the film.

Talking to Variety, Harmon confirms that Glover was ‘almost’ correct in that the script was ‘almost’ finished. He says:

“I can confirm Donald Glover’s report that I told him the script was done, but I will also say Donald’s sources are so unreliable because the script is always ‘almost done,’… What can I tell you about it — it’s set on the campus of Greendale Community College. I’m super excited about it, and we’re almost done.”

We still have no idea what the movie will be about, but at least we can confirm that we are going to be headed back to Greendale, which the Greendale Seven will probably have to save again one way or another.

The movie is set to bring back all original main cast members which include Joel McHale (Jeff), Gillian Jacobs (Britta), Alison Brie (Annie), Danny Pudi (Abed), Donald Glover (Troy), Yvette Nicole Brown (Shirley), Jim Rash (Dean Pelton), and Ken Jeong (Ben Chang). There has also been curiosity on whether Chevy Chase (Pierce) will make a cameo, but it’s likely he won’t be appearing especially with all the drama that came out while he was on the show.

“I’ve been having kind of a nervous breakdown the last couple of months just by working on it, and that’s a good thing because I’m having all kinds of flashbacks to 2009,” says Harmon about working on the film, “It’s gonna be awesome… I’m like, ‘Why am I crying about these characters?’”

No release date has been set for the Community movie, but you can check out the entire series (sans one D&D episode) now streaming on Netflix.

Donald Glover and Maya Erskine Star in First Trailer for Mr. & Mrs. Smith https://www.geekfeed.com/glover-and-erskine-in-mr-mrs-smith-trailer/ Mon, 11 Dec 2023 17:07:08 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80040 Mr. & Mrs. Smith from 2005 starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt had laid the cornerstone for ‘sexy fighting’ in movies, and now Amazon Prime Video is set to reboot the series with Donald Glover (Atlanta) and Maya Erskine (PEN15).

Here’s the first trailer:

While the original Mr. & Mrs. Smith film had John and Jane Smith not being aware that the other is an assassin, this reboot flips the story and has both be assassins that are complete strangers who slowly fall in love with each other. The official description for the show reads:

Two lonely strangers land a job working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travels and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch: new identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. & Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier, espionage or marriage?

Originally the movie was supposed to have Phoebe Waller-Bridge in the Mrs. Smith role, but she had left the project due to creative differences with Donald Glover. Erskine took over the part after Waller-Bridge left, and the show has managed to gather more stars for the cast which include the likes of Paul Dano, Parker Posey, Ron Perlman, Wagner Moura, Eiza Gonzalez, and Alexander Skarsgard.

So far the series looks fun, and it should have some of that signature artsy vibe that Atlanta has with Glover as executive producer. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Catch Mr. & Mrs. Smith when it premieres on Amazon Prime Video on Feb. 2, 2024.

Star Wars: Donald Glover Says He’s Still in Talks to Reprise Lando Calrissian https://www.geekfeed.com/star-wars-glover-still-in-talks-to-reprise-lando/ Mon, 10 Apr 2023 05:12:19 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76175 Donald Glover had played Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story, and though rumors have been going around that he’s going to be working on a spinoff, we haven’t had any official updates.

In a recent interview with GQ Magazine though, Glover has confirmed that he’s still in talks for returning as Lando, but the project will have to be the ‘right one’. Check this out:

In Solo, we meet Lando while he was still the captain of the Millennium Falcon, and by the end of the film, we get to see how Han swindles the ship out of Lando’s grasp (to be fair, Lando himself was also a swindler). You can check out their interaction here:

Though Solo did underperform in the box office, time has revealed that the failure of the film really wasn’t with the quality of the movie at all, but rather with the poor marketing, with Disney pitting the film against Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2. A lot of fans online believe that the film would have done way better if Disney just allowed Lucasfilm to push it back to December of that year.

Either way, there is a #MakeSolo2Happen movement on Twitter, and there has been more love for the movie over time. Though I would love for Glover’s Lando to make a return, I was actually a bigger fan of Alden Ehrenreich’s take on a young Han Solo.

A Lando spinoff hasn’t gotten any updates from Lucasfilm, but you can check Glover out in Solo: A Star Wars Story now streaming on Disney+.

Dan Harmon on Returning Cast Members for Community Movie https://www.geekfeed.com/dan-harmon-on-cast-members-for-community-movie/ Tue, 11 Oct 2022 04:43:21 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=71507 Ever since the show ended back in 2015, fans had been demanding a Community movie, with the mantra #SixSeasonsAndAMovie frequently coming out online. Now Peacock is moving forward with the film, and fans are wondering, “Who are they bringing back?”

While the series is expected to bring back the regulars who stayed until the end like Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, and Danny Pudi, there is a question of whether the series will bring back actors Donald Glover, Yvette-Nicole Brown, and Chevy Chase, who were all central cast members who left before the series ended.

During a panel at the New York Comic-Con (via Variety), Dan Harmon explained that bringing back Donald Glover was a necessity, but the same can’t be said for Chevy Chase. Harmon explains:

“I think that Donald is coming, based on word of mouth, but it’s just the deal isn’t official or wasn’t official. It would be difficult to really commit to doing this thing without Donald… So I believe he is coming back. I think if there’s names missing from a list, it’s because the names that are on the list, their deals are agreed upon enough that it’s OK to say they are on the list, and anybody that’s not on a list, it’s just not the case yet. So there is nothing official about anybody being out”

As for Chase’s inclusion, Harmon said, “I don’t even know if it’s legal for him to come back… That may be out of my hands. There may something I sign for with an insurance company.”

Though Chase did have his infamous falling out with the show, I am actually kind of hoping that he makes a small appearance just to start mending fences. Pearce Hawthorne could be dead in canon, but he was such a central part of the series that they have to make some kind of mention about him in the film.

No release date has been set for the Community film, but it’s set to release on Peacock sometime in 2024.

Things Look Apocalyptic in Wild Opening for Atlanta 4 https://www.geekfeed.com/things-look-apocalyptic-in-opening-for-atlanta-4/ Tue, 20 Sep 2022 09:35:26 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=71147 The third season may have brought Al and his crew to Europe, but the final fourth season is going to be bring Atlanta back to The Big Peach.

The last season had a pretty wild opening episode, and it looks like they’re trying to top it with Season 4. Watch this opening clip that has Darius (LaKeith Stanfield) walking into a supermarket that’s in the middle of a looting. Watch this:

Seeing that the show has always been absurdity with a dash of social commentary, it seems that this scene with the looting is supposed to mirror the events of the Chicago lootings that happened back in 2020.

While the main focus of Atlanta has always been African-American culture, there is always something to say about the white culture as well, and we can see that in this opening with the disabled woman—who looks to be a stand-in for the patriotic ‘Karens’ that we see all over the internet.

The series has been a pretty wild ride, and I hate to see it end, but hopefully show creator Donald Glover has other interesting projects on the horizon.

Here’s the official description for the fourth season:

Season 4 finds “Earn” (Donald Glover), “Alfred ‘Paper Boi’ Miles” (Brian Tyree Henry), “Darius” (LaKeith Stanfield) and “Van” (Zazie Beetz) back in their hometown. But the question is, has Atlanta changed or have they? Atlanta is executive produced by Donald Glover, Stephen Glover, Hiro Murai, Stefani Robinson, Paul Simms and Dianne McGunigle. Atlanta is produced by FX Productions.

Atlanta Season 4 is now showing on FX.

Community Movie Gets Update from Dan Harmon https://www.geekfeed.com/community-movie-gets-update-from-dan-harmon/ Tue, 23 Aug 2022 12:38:33 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=70692 #SixSeasonsAndAMovie has been the rallying cry of Community fans since the show ended back in 2015, and we’ve been getting vague updates over the past few years. What’s great is, show creator Dan Harmon has finally given us some solid updates on the status of the movie and says it could only be a matter of time when it’s finally made.

In an interview with The Wrap, Harmon has confirmed that a story already exists for the Community film. He explains:

There’s a story—who knows if we’ll end up sticking to it, but it was something we had to compile in order to take it out and court various venues. And now negotiations happen.”

As far as the release, Harmon didn’t give out anything specific, but he does say that, “…as far as the industry is concerned, this is a matter of when and not if, for sure.”

Though the series never ended up as huge as Rick and Morty, Community remains to be a cult favorite, and was said to have a lot of renewed interest ever since it premiered on Netflix. Though it does start out as a typical sitcom, the series is chockfull of ‘Harmon-isms’ that have become prevalent in his other work from ridiculous parody episodes to clip shows that were the early versions of Rick and Morty’s Interdimensional Cable episodes.

We don’t know what a movie could be about, but I’m hoping we get a lot of elements that made the original series great. Could it be a huge parody film about movies based on TV series? Is there going to be a clip show? Could the Russo Brothers come back to direct?

If you ask me, I’m just hoping they bring back all the original cast members like Donald Glover and Chevy Chase. Fans have been aching for a Troy and Abed reunion and it’s high time we got one.

No release date has been set for the Community movie.

Paper Boi’s Crew is Back in New Trailer for Atlanta Season 3 https://www.geekfeed.com/paper-bois-crew-is-back-in-new-trailer-for-atlanta-season-3/ Thu, 10 Mar 2022 13:37:12 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=64394 After his run as Troy in Community, Donald Glover’s big return to television was the hit series Atlanta. The last time we got to see Earn and Al was way back in 2018, and now FX is ready to bring us the third season later this month.

Watch the new trailer here:

While the second season of Atlanta brought us Robbin’ Season, Season 3 will be taking place almost entirely in Europe. Here’s the official description:

Taking place almost entirely in Europe, Season 3 of Atlanta finds “Earn” (Donald Glover), “Alfred ‘Paper Boi’ Miles” (Brian Tyree Henry), “Darius” (LaKeith Stanfield) and “Van” (Zazie Beetz) in the midst of a successful European tour, as the group navigates their new surroundings as outsiders, and struggle to adjust to the newfound success they had aspired to.

Even if Glover was best known for his comedy work with 30 Rock and Community, Atlanta has come out to be an entirely different animal, with surrealist imagery being mixed with some comedic beats. Though there are some laughs to be had, there are also some darker moments in Atlanta, and sometimes you can’t help but wonder if the series wants you to laugh or have a serious look at societal issues.

The show is pretty great, and it’s written in a way that you can’t really expect to know where an episode is going to take you. I’m curious if Glover has any interesting things to say about the pandemic, now that we’re slowly moving away from it.

Atlanta 3 comes back to FX on March 24.

Atlanta Returns for S03 With New Trailer https://www.geekfeed.com/donald-glover-is-back-with-teaser-for-atlanta-season-3/ Fri, 31 Dec 2021 03:42:18 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=63221 It’s been more than three years since the release of the second season, but Atlanta is coming back in 2022 and we have a new trailer featurning Earn, Al, and Darius up to their surrealist shenanigans.

Watch the trailer for Atlanta season 3 down here:

With the artsy nature of the show, it’s probably useless trying to understand what the overall synopsis of the third season will be. If anything, it looks like the gang will be finding themselves in Europe, and we’re going to get some more absurd scenes commenting on racism and black culture.

Since the last time we saw Earn and the rest was 2018, there have been a lot of significant things that have happened that I bet the show is going to be commenting on. With the murder of George Floyd taking place in 2020, it looks like the series will have something to say about the Black Lives Matter movement. Maybe we can even get some commentary on the January 6 insurrection, if Glover and his team manage to find a way to work it into the show.

Though Glover had been best known for his work on straight-up comedies like Community, Atlanta has proven to be one of the more unique voices when it comes to television. While some scenes can be funny, there’s a unique voice of awkward (and sometimes sad) that can leave audiences more contemplative of what the series is trying to say.

Either way, I’m excited for the series’ return. Atlanta returns to FX on March 24, 2022.

Atlanta Season 3 Teaser Confirms 2022 Release https://www.geekfeed.com/atlanta-season-3-teaser-confirms-2022-release/ Sat, 06 Nov 2021 06:04:29 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=62283 Donald Glover’s surrealist series Atlanta had taken a hiatus since its last season aired in 2018, and now the show is ready to come back with a new teaser featuring Al a.k.a. Paper Boi (Bryan Tyree Henry).

Watch the new teaser for Atlanta season 3 down here:

We don’t get an official synopsis of the upcoming season, but we do have a creepy chant going, “Don’t you know that yet? It’s after the end of the world,” complete with some cryptic scenery and spooky zoom-ins.

Since there has been a global pandemic since the release of the last season, it’s possible that the series could be tackling the results of COVID-19; after all, we’ve yet to get a TV show that actively addressed the rise and slow fall of the pandemic. Even shows that have started production back up again act like there hasn’t been any mass lockdown for several months.

Since Atlanta offers a lot of very unique commentary on culture and social issues through its lens, I’m sure that Glover and his crew will have something interesting to say when the series comes back with Al, Darius, and Earn.

With Glover keeping busy with his other shows like Mr. & Mrs. Smith for Amazon and the announced Lando series for Disney+, it’s great to see him come back to an original property that he’s created.

Two cousins work through the Atlanta music scene in order to better their lives and the lives of their families. Donald Glover serves as Executive Producer, along with Paul Simms, Dianne McGunigle and Stephen Glover. Atlanta is produced by FX Productions.

Catch Atlanta Season 3 when it comes back to FX sometime in 2022.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge Exits Amazon’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith Series https://www.geekfeed.com/waller-bridge-and-glover-exit-mr-and-mrs-smith-project/ Tue, 07 Sep 2021 13:53:50 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61370 After working together on Solo: A Star Wars Story, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Donald Glover had been announced to star in a Mr. & Mrs. Smith series for Amazon. It looked like a dream project with two creative powerhouses, but it looks like Waller-Bridge has exited the project.

As per Variety, sources have confirmed that Waller-Bridge has left Mr. & Mrs. Smith over ‘creative differences’ with co-star and co-executive producer Donald Glover. Apparently Waller-Bridge’s exit was amicable, and her role will be recast.

After the success of Fleabag, it seemed that Waller-Bridge has been getting busier and busier, what with her work on the latest Bond film No Time to Die as well as Killing Eve in which she’s attached as an executive producer. It’s also worth noting that Waller-Bridge will also be starring alongside the OG Han Solo Harrison Ford in the upcoming Indiana Jones movie.

In the original Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt play assassins who are married to each other and discover that they are each other’s next target. We don’t know how Glover and Waller-Bridge would have taken on the series, but we should have expected something with a more mature and meta take, seeing that Fleabag and Atlanta are far cries from the standard action/romance that the original movie was.

It’s kind of a bummer to see Waller-Bridge go as I would have loved to see her collaborate with Glover again, but at least we still have the fun dynamic between L3-37 and Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

No release date has been set for the Mr. & Mrs. Smith series on Amazon.
