With Boyega’s experience making the Sequel Trilogy though, he has come out to voice his irritation at the toxic SW fandom. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Boyega says, “They’re okay with us playing the best friend, but once we touch their heroes, once we lead, once we trailblaze, it’s like, ‘Oh my God, it’s just a bit too much! They’re pandering!’… Lemme tell ya, Star Wars always had the vibe of being in the most whitest, elite space. It’s a franchise that’s so white that a Black person existing in [it] was something.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoiRJnr-rtU
Though Star Wars does have its black characters like Lando Calrissian and Mace Windu, Boyega does say that the original and Prequel films were still pretty behind when it came to inclusivity. Boyega continues:
“You can always tell it’s something when some Star Wars fans try to say, ‘Well, we had Lando Calrissian and had Samuel L. Jackson!’ It’s like telling me how many cookie chips are in the cookie dough. It’s like, they just scattered that in there, bro!”
Admittedly, Star Wars under Disney has tried to be more inclusive—which has not been met with the most rational reactions by toxic fans. If anything, Star Wars/Disney has started getting criticism for not protecting its actors from social media backlash. Besides Boyega, actresses like Daisy Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran have been bullied off social media; Obi-Wan Kenobi actress Moses Ingram was also met with a lot of online hate for her Inquisitor character.
Should Boyega come back onboard, I would love for his Finn character to get a proper arc, but should the backlash come, Disney should already have a system in place to go up against the toxic fandom.
]]>Trey Callaway had been a consulting producer on the original series, and in a recent interview with Radical Retro Rewind, he confirms that there have been meetings at Disney to develop a live-action version of the series. Callaway explains:
“A dear writer friend of mine… has been a part of a series of meetings happening at Disney right now about a live-action reboot of that series.”
Callaway didn’t go into any specifics on the status of the meetings, but he does say that Disney is looking to revisit properties which have extensive world-building that allow for multiple stories to be created–and WITCH definitely fits into that category.
For context, WITCH was a series originally created by Elisabetta Gnone, Alessandro Barbucci, and Barbara Canepa. The comic followed five teens —Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia, and Hay Lin—who are granted elemental powers and given the responsibility to protect the realm of Kandrakar, the center of the Universe.
The comic ran from 2001 to 2012, and the animated series managed to adapt 26 episodes and ran from 2004-2006. The series may not have gotten the same highs as some other Disney properties, but it was pretty huge for its time, and it definitely still has a cult following.
As a fan of the comic, I’d rather they just reboot the animated series, but there’s definitely a lot of room there for a fantasy teen drama. Let’s just hope it fairs better than Netflix’s stab at a live-action Winx adaptation.
A live-action W.I.T.C.H. series has not been officially announced.
]]>Deadline reports that Erik Per Sullivan, who had played the third Wilkerson child Dewey will not be returning to play the role. Sullivan had reportedly quit acting way back in 2010, and now the part will be played by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark, who admittedly looks the part.
Caleb Ellsworth-Clark is set to take over the role of Dewey in the 'MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE' revival series.
He replaces Erik Per Sullivan, who hasn't acted since 2010.

(@PoppedNews) March 25, 2025
Though Dewey has been recast, original cast members Christopher Masterson (Francis) and Justin Berfield (Reese) are going to be coming back to reprise their roles. They’ll be joining a cast which includes Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek.
For context, Malcolm in the Middle was a hit sitcom back in the early 2000s which focuses on Malcolm, the middle child of a dysfunctional American family. Malcolm is incredibly smart, but his family is shown to have constant struggles with poverty, and it doesn’t help that Malcolm’s brothers are also kind of dumb in their own way.
Besides Frankie Muniz, the show was also a platform for Bryan Cranston to become one of TV’s most beloved dads. It’s insane how a few years later he would blow everyone away by becoming drug kingpin Walter White in Breaking Bad.
The revival will only fun for four episodes, but hopefully it gives fans a nice update on where the Wilkersons will be after all these years.
No release date has been set for the Malcolm in the Middle revival, but it’s expected to come to Disney+ sometime soon.
]]>While some are slowly accepting the series may not be coming back, new data suggests that there is actually a lot of fan demand for a second season, and it may be one of the most successful series to come out on Disney+ when it did.
According to Parrot Analytics (via @swholocron), The Acolyte was in demand in the US 20.4 times the market average in the past 30 days. As it turns out, the only series that have been able to make those numbers were held by 2.7% of the streaming service’s shows.
Back when news of the cancellation had come out, there was already a strong #RenewTheAcolyte movement online; but some were saying that the cancellation meant that it was because the series had cost a lot of money, and it wasn’t worth the returns that Disney+ was reporting.
Even if that was the case, there was nothing but great things being said about the show, and it did deliver on the Prequel era lightsaber action that has been missing from series like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.
We don’t know what Disney is going to do with this information, but it does seem like more things are getting cancelled now unless they’re a Stranger Things-level hit. Fingers crossed The Acolyte 2 gets the greenlight anyway.
Catch the first season of The Acolyte now streaming on Disney+.
]]>The series premieres on April 12, and a new trailer has been dropped promising another crazy adventure with the Doctor. Check this out:
Though Gatwa’s Doctor was supposed to be partnered up with Millie Gibson for a while, they only managed to last for one season before Gibson had to leave the show. Now Sethu is taking over as new character Belinda Chandra, and it looks like she’s going to be having some very experimental stories with the Doctor this time—including an animated one.
Though there are some that testify that one Doctor is better than the other, each Doctor from David Tennant to Jodie Whittaker have their own fanbase who started the series when they were kids. It’s kind of like He-Man or Ninja Turtles that the property gets rebooted every few years so that a new generation of children can fall in love with the franchise.
It’s a bit silly as an adult to try and have strong opinions on Who because it’s honestly just a sci-fi show aimed at children with occasional historical hijinx and crazy low-budget aliens.
I do have to say though, it’s pretty cool that they got a way for Gatwa to just put on different outfits every episode because it might have been a pain to just keep him boxed into one outfit for his entire run.
Doctor Who premieres on the BBC and Disney+ on April 12.
]]>The series is set to release its second and final season, and the latest trailer is more on the traditional side (compared to the first trailer which had more upbeat rock). Check this out:
While the trailer is very vague on where things will go in the series, everyone knows that it’s all pointing to the events in Rogue One. Director Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) is going to make his appearance in this series, and it’s also been confirmed that Saw Gerrera is now in his partisan base in Jedha (the same planet from Rogue One).
It also looks like Andor and Luthen are falling deeper into their Rebellion hole, and it’s possible that Luthen is gearing up for something more terrible to happen so that people will finally stand up and fight against the Empire. By the time Rogue One starts, Andor is actually one of the more morally corrupt soldiers, so maybe this series is going to end with him fully embracing that role and making the sacrifices for the greater good—something he eventually gets out of by the end of Rogue One.
As a Last Jedi enjoyer, Andor was one of my fave series to come out on Disney+. Emotionally it’s very powerful, and the themes are very solid. We don’t know if there’ll ever be another show like it, but I’m hoping Lucasfilm has more space for it in the future.
The second and final season of Andor premieres on Disney+ on April 22.
]]>As per the official announcement, Coco 2 is in the works. Check this out:
Disney and Pixar’s Coco 2 is officially in the works! pic.twitter.com/BtLzn2oIFP
— Pixar (@Pixar) March 20, 2025
Admittedly, a lot of fans were perplexed that a sequel would just be titled Coco 2. After all, the Coco in the title was supposed to be Miguel’s grandmother who dies at the end of the movie. She’s not even that much of a character, and more of a emotional mcguffin for Miguel and Hector.
If the movie is going to be titled Coco 2, does it mean that Miguel gets a new family member down the line that is also named Coco? Instead of the death, is the sequel going to explore the concept of Life? I doubt they’re going to try and resurrect Coco.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a sequel following the story of a young Coco who is trying to connect to her lost father, but Coco 2 does sound like a title that would bring the story forward rather than just look back.
Hopefully Pixar reveals more down the line. They must be pretty confident with what they have to touch a movie that’s pretty solid on its own.
So far no official release date has been announced for Coco 2, but Pixar is now gearing up for their next movie Elio which comes to cinemas on June 20.
]]>Elio is set to come to theaters this June, and a new trailer has been dropped highlighting Elio and an unlikely friendship with an alien worm. Check this out:
This summer, moviegoers will meet Elio, an 11-year-old whose biggest wish is to get abducted by aliens, as well as his Aunt Olga (voiced by recent Academy Award Winner, Zoe Saldaña), and Glordon, Elio’s unexpected first friend who happens to be an alien. In this big-screen adventure, Elio will travel millions of miles across the universe encountering and a host of out-of-this world creatures who just might help him figure out exactly where he belongs.
Though earlier trailers have just shown Elio being whisked away into space and being mistaken for a diplomat, this latest preview gives more of the story, with Elio being shown to be kind of an antisocial weirdo; plus, we also get a look at his friend Glordon who seems to be going through his own issues with parental expectations.
Admittedly, Pixar has been hit-and-miss as far as their latest track record, but I think they have more hits worth watching out for. For every Luca and Turning Red, there’s always bound to be an Onward. We don’t know where Elio will fall in that category, but I always prefer that the studio try something new rather than just keep pursuing sequels/spinoffs like Lightyear and Finding Dory.
Catch Disney Pixar’s Elio when it comes to cinemas on June 20.
]]>The film comes out in May and Disney has dropped a new trailer featuring Stitch and the live-action Lilo played by Maia Kealoha. Check this out:
Other stars in the Lilo & Stitch live-action movie include Zack Galifianakis and Billy Magnussen who are playing Jumba and Pleakley, and it looks like they’re going to have these hologram disguises as compared to the animated movie where they just had terrible costumes. The Grand Councilwoman is played by Hannah Waddingham and the part of Cobra Bubbles is given to Courtney B. Vance.
Some people actually thought that they should have just brought back Ving Rhames to play Bubbles, but some speculated he was too busy shooting Mission: Impossible movies with Tom Cruise.
Syndey Agudong takes over the part of Lilo’s sister Nani, but interestingly enough, Tia Carrere, who voice Nani in the original movie, is also in the film as Mrs. Kekoa.
I do admit, I was sceptical about the movie, but I think that they managed to make Stitch look even cuter for this film, and you can bet that Disney is already banking on him being a new Baby-Yoda-level merchandising mascot. For all their success on Stitch though, Pleakley’s alien form looks like it needs a bit more tweaking.
Catch Lilo & Stitch when it comes to cinemas on May 23.
]]>With the second season incoming, we know that Krennic is going to make an appearance, but what about the lead of Rogue One herself Jyn Erso? Talking to EW, showrunner Tony Gilroy was asked if Jyn could make an appearance, to which he said:
“I’m not gonna answer that question fully. We’re not really teasers in our show, are we? We don’t really tease very much. Everything that we’re gonna bring in to get to Rogue is going to be organic. There’s nothing we’re bringing in for fun. Or just because somebody wants to see it. It has to be germane to the story.”
With Jyn meeting Cassian for the first time in Rogue One, it’s very likely they don’t run into each other in Season 2, but they could probably do a workaround where it’s Cassian who provides the intel of Jyn’s existence when they discover that Galen Erso is the architect behind the Death Star.
You know what, add Mads Mikkelsen to that Season 2 cameo wishlist as well.
With shows like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka being glorified cameo-fests, some fans welcome Andor’s story-first approach; that being said, it wouldn’t hurt to have a few familiar faces here and there. It’s just important not to rely too heavily on them.
It’s not clear what Star Wars has planned for the rest of the year, but for now, a lot of fans are eager for the return of one of the more mature Star Wars properties to come out of Disney+.
Andor Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on April 22.
]]>While a lot of fans thought that Knight would at least express some disappointment that he didn’t get the final draft for the movie, he has nothing but nice things to say about his time working on Star Wars. Talking to The Playlist, Knight explains:
“I mean, it was such a great experience. And I’m not just saying this. They were great people… Kathleen Kennedy is a pleasure to work with. [Lucasfilm are] smart people who know their craft. And for me, it’s like a particular discipline in the world of writing and film. It’s this world, and you enter the world, and you do your bit, and you do your take.”
It’s not clear how much of Knight’s story is going to make it to the final product, but it has been said that he was still going to get a credit. With Lucasfilm being so protective of the Star Wars canon and brand, Knight says that he was kind of swept up when he started working for the studio. He continues:
“…It’s like stepping into a hurricane, in a way, because of the fans, because of what they want and what they feel… So you’re in this world, and you’re doing your bit in this world.
“[But I loved it. You either get blown away, or you use it… And I really wanted to use that energy to do what I do, to contribute what I want to contribute.”
Admittedly, it has been difficult for Lucasfilm the past few years after The Rise of Skywalker, seeing that the company looks to have been forced between bringing in new material or pandering to the existing fanbase.
With a lot of years of this toxic Star Wars fandom though, I am hoping that Kathy Kennedy and the rest of the Lucasfilm leadership have good idea on where to take the ship; because I’m honestly more on the camp that likes pushing the story forward with relevant themes (i.e., Andor, Skeleton Crew) as compared to just constantly returning to the OT for some familiar faces (i.e., Ahsoka, The Mandalorian).
Hopefully the next Rey Skywalker movie comes out sooner rather than later.
]]>
Admittedly, Lucasfilm has been very protective of its brand ever since The Rise of Skywalker and it’s led to creative stalemates with several auteurs over the years. With Perkins being a very artsy director, it’s questionable if Lucasfilm will allow him the creative freedom to infuse his voice into Star Wars; but maybe Perkins himself is flexible and can deliver something that fits into the universe while at the same time being keeping his knack for horror.
I mean, if Taika Waititi can tone down his style for The Mandalorian, surely Perkins can pull it off as well.
While Perkins’ pitch does sound like it can work for a series, Darth Vader is a huge enough character to merit a return to the cinema. With a lot of fans celebrating the return of Hayden Christensen, maybe Lucasfilm will consider the return of the Star Wars Story format with a Darth Vader-centric anthology story.
Who knows, maybe Perkins can rework his idea into an Obi-Wan sequel that actually releases in theaters?
For now, check out Perkins’ The Monkey now showing in theaters.
]]>According to THR, Disney has decided to axe the Tiana series. Originally announced in 2020, the show was supposed to focus on Tiana’s story after the events of Princess and the Frog. The series would have brought back Anika Noni Rose to reprise the role as Tiana and would also have new original music.
There were apparently several efforts to get the series made, including changes in the creative team, but the productions costs were just not feasible enough for the series to push forward. Such a shame as well since it looked like Disney was gearing up for a big return for Tiana and her world, seeing that they revamped Splash Mountain in the Disneyland parks to be Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
If anything, the axing of Tiana is going to mark a change in strategy for Disney in that they will now prioritize theatrically released movies as compared to original series for Disney+. With Moana 2 and Inside Out 2 making a lot of bank in the box office, it seems like that would be the priority, as compared to releasing new material in hopes that it would attract new subscribers for Disney+.
This decision also looks to be affecting not just Walt Disney Animation. Pixar is also said to be dropping their long-form series like Dream Productions and Win or Lose to just focus on movies. Rest assured, shorts and special features will still be coming to Disney+.
For now, the latest long form animated series on Disney+ is Win or Lose which is now streaming on the platform.
]]>Now after more than a decade of running the franchise, it looks like Kennedy could be set to retire. According to Puck News (via THR), Kennedy has informed her associates that she’s ready to step down as the president of Lucasfilm come the end of the year.
No further details have been revealed about Kennedy’s exit, but as expected, the people who have been against her for a while are taking this as a huge win for them. Now some are curious as to who Kennedy could choose to become her successor.
Though Kennedy had successfully relaunched Star Wars on the big screen with The Force Awakens, her run hasn’t always been perfect; especially with news of creatives getting sidelined—like Phil Lord and Chris Miller with Solo: A Star Wars Story, and Rogue One director Gareth Edwards getting replaced behind-the-scenes with Tony Gilroy.
That being said, Kennedy was still at the helm when great Star Wars content dropped like The Mandalorian and the critically-acclaimed Andor on Disney+.
Outside of Star Wars, Kennedy has been known to be a dynamite producer, having worked on classics like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Back to the Future, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. She’s been nominated for eight Oscars her whole career and has produced/executive produced more than 70 movies.
It does feel odd that she’s stepping down with all this build-up to the next Star Wars movie starring Rey, but I can also imagine it’s been a tough decade since The Last Jedi when she became the target for hate speech and vitriol by arguably the worst people in the SW fandom.
I’m just hoping she picks the right successor who isn’t Dave Filoni.
]]>Check this out:
Just for context, the song is The Revolution Starts Now from Steve Earle.
Admittedly, this is a new direction for Lucasfilm marketing, seeing that all the previews that has come before it ever since The Force Awakens had just been using original music from the films.
We don’t know why there’s a sudden change, but it does seem that Lucasfilm wants to market the series to be more ‘fun’ for anyone who didn’t check out the first season of Andor. Despite the critical acclaim, a lot of the far-right Star Wars Youtubers had dubbed the show ‘boring’, and it looks like the use of a rock/country song for the trailer is Lucasfilm trying to beat the allegations.
As someone who actually enjoyed the first season, it’s definitely an odd move, but I am excited for the show to come back. Unlike series like The Mandalorian, it seemed that showrunner Tony Gilroy was not so focused on having a new wave of incoming action figures; but rather he wanted to write an honest-to-goodness rebellion story.
Having the trailer with upbeat music does kind of feel like it messes with the tone of the show, but if it can get more people to watch, then I’m not complaining.
Catch Andor Season 2 when it premieres on Disney+ on April 22.
]]>We don’t know exactly what to expect with Season 2 of YFNS yet, but the show has just shared an official look at Gwen Stacy and her alter-ego Spider-Gwen. Check this out:
The Neighborhood just got a little more Friendly. See you next season! pic.twitter.com/UBaw313uLB

First look at Gwen Stacy in ‘YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN’ Season 2. pic.twitter.com/6xZB9orASO
— Cosmic Marvel (@cosmic_marvel) February 20, 2025
Since Gwen Stacy hasn’t been officially introduced in the MCU yet, a lot of fans are wondering exactly what her origin in YFNS is going to look like. Some speculate that the Spider that bit Peter in the beginning of the series was actually still alive, and that was the one that bit the Gwen of this universe.
A Multiverse-hopping Gwen Stacy is also considered as a possibility, but that’s already been done with Into the Spider-Verse, and there’s really nothing in this universe that’s stopping Gwen from simply just existing and getting spider powers herself.
For most of the first season of YFNS, Peter Parker’s love interest is Pearl Pangan, who herself is the Marvel hero Wave. We don’t know if the show is going to tug on that thread some more in future seasons, but with YFNS also looking to be a coming-of-age story, it wouldn’t be surprising that Peter will have multiple love interests in the following season. I wouldn’t even mind if MJ doesn’t show up—but I feel like she definitely should at some point—if this timeline is going to be that close to the MCU one.

]]>Taking to Entertainment Weekly about a possible Defenders comeback, Winderbaum explained, “I can’t say much, but I’ll tell you that it’s so exciting to be able to play in that sandbox… But I can just say that all those variables [budgetary and resource-based restrictions] taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring.”
For context, the rest of the Marvel Netflix Defenders include Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones)—not to mention other supporting characters including Misty Knight (Simon Missick), Elektra (Elodie Yung), and Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick).
Though a lot of fans like to look back at the Marvel Netflix era fondly, there are some that remember how much the quality dipped in the shows—especially around the time of the drop of The Defenders. The series were obviously suffering from a mandate to fill up a season with 13 episodes, which resulted in a lot of filler and very little substance.
For now, fans are waiting to see just how much will be changed with Born Again. I’m honestly up for shaking up some of the origins again because I know that not everyone was a fan of how Luke Cage and Iron Fist turned out as characters.
Hopefully Marvel doesn’t paint itself into a corner this time. Daredevil: Born Again is set to hit Disney+ on March 4.
]]>Talking to THR, Ridley shares, “People have talked about it a lot that the release date often affects films and how quickly things go into production. So the freedom to make sure that this [New Jedi Order] script is the best way to tell this story is wonderful, and I don’t think any fans would want it to be rushed… The wait will be worth it. I know what George [Nolfi] is working on, and he is a phenomenal writer. So I’m really looking forward to reading it, and yes, it’s all worthwhile.”
We don’t know much about the story, but it’s said that New Jedi Order will take place 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. It’s not clear who else could come back besides Ridley, but some fans are hoping for the return of the ST’s major players including John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), and Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico).
Admittedly, some fans think that Star Wars is in a creative rut for the past few years, and after the nostalgia pandering of the series, some aren’t really that hyped for the theatrical release of The Mandalorian and Grogu. Then again, there are some shining stars like Andor and Skeleton Crew, and that should mean that there are still efforts to keep things fresh at Lucasfilm.
No release date has been set for New Jedi Order, but fans are hoping for a release sometime next year. In the meantime, watch out for Ridley in Cleaner which comes out Feb. 21.
]]>According to The DisInsider, Disney is apparently pushing forward with the next Pirates movie, and Depp is onboard. No further details have been revealed, but it has been rumoured for a while that Disney actually had multiple options to tackle the next POTC movie—one of which was said to have Margot Robbie (Barbie) as the new lead.
Admittedly, though Depp has been included in every Pirates of the Caribbean movie, the critical reception of the films have just been going downward since its last high which was At World’s End. Though Depp still had some enthusiasm in the Jack Sparrow character on Stranger Tides, it does seem like he was just going through the motions in Dead Men Tell No Tales—constantly slurring his speech and lacking any of the fire that Jack had in the earlier films.
Personally I was hoping that they would give the Jack Sparrow character a break for a while, and some have said that the real people behind the success of the franchise isn’t Depp, but director Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. I just really think that Depp has to get back on his feet with smaller projects first before being thrust into the big-budget world of Pirates of the Caribbean again.
No release date has been announced for the next Pirates of the Caribbean film.
]]>While it did seem like Jod was the only one who knew how to use a saber out of the whole cast, actor Jude Law apparently wanted to look as clumsy as possible holding it onscreen. Talking during MegaCon 2025 (via ScreenRant), Law explained, “We kind of liked the idea that he had zero lightsaber experience.”
This essentially confirms the backstory that Jod had never held a lightsaber before in Skeleton Crew, and it’s also very apparent in the series that he mostly uses it to threaten people, and the only time he really did some real damage was when he took off SM-33’s head.
For now, there’s a lot of backstory that’s still missing for Jod. Sure, he wasn’t able to take control of At-Attin, but some think that there’s space in the second season to cover just who Jod was training under, and how he eventually ended up leading his own pirate gang.
Though Jod did lead the invasion of the planet, some think that his unwillingness to hurt any of the children directly could still mean that he has earned a soft spot for them, and maybe there’s room for him to eventually get some of that classic Star Wars redemption.
