What’s funny is, Nanjiani has posted this new video on his socials that points out just how horny the original 1978 Superman was. Check this out:

The video basically has Nanjiani breaking down a scene between Superman and Lois Lane where Lois and Superman kind of flirt back at each other—slowly escalating to new levels of horny. So horny that Superman makes a comment on the color of Lois’ underwear and she asks him if he likes it.

For context without the commentary, here’s the scene from the film:

Admittedly, a lot of the flirty exchange will fly right over kids’ heads, but Nanjiani was able to point out all of the very subtle innuendos from Lois asking how ‘big’ Superman is, to him just blurting out ‘Pink’ when he does get a look at Lois’ underwear.

We don’t know how David Corenswet’s Superman is going to be, but Gunn has said that this Superman was a great inspiration or him and his entire career. While we do know that this new Superman is going to be ‘brighter’ than the one Henry Cavill was onscreen, it’s curious what exactly his dynamic with new Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) is going to be.

Catch Superman when it soars into theaters on July 11, 2025.

Kumail Nanjiani is Booster Gold Confirmed? https://www.geekfeed.com/kumail-nanjiani-is-booster-gold-confirmed/ Wed, 31 Jul 2024 15:19:09 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83548 James Gunn’s DCU is slowly fleshing itself out, and it can’t be helped that casting rumors fly around once in a while. One casting rumor that’s been going around, however, is that of Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals) has been cast as time-traveller Booster Gold. A lot of people were sceptical of the casting, but it could be true.

Talking to The Cosmic Circus, Cobra Kai and Blue Beetle star Xolo Mariduena has seemingly confirmed that Nanjiani has been cast as the DCU’s Booster Gold.  No official announcement has been done by DC at all, but it would make sense for Mariduena to know who Booster Gold is, since fans are expecting a team-up between him and Blue Beetle somewhere down the line.

Traditionally, Booster Gold is a blonde white guy in the comics, and his backstory has him travelling from the future to the present in order to capitalize on his ‘historical’ knowledge. Fancasts for the character have included the likes of Chris Pratt and Glen Powell. With Nanjiani’s announcement though, a lot of fans thought he was actually a great choice. He certainly has the comedy chops, and fans have already seen him play a con-man in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

I’m just hoping that when DC does make the official announcement, they’ll make sure to keep the ‘anti-woke’ fans from spouting anything offensive at Nanjiani. Then again, Nanjiani’s probably used to this by now, seeing that he’s already been through the MCU roller coaster.

Hopefully they make the official announcement soon. No official announcement has been made for a Booster Gold movie or a Blue Beetle sequel, but the new DCU official debuts with Superman in July 11, 2025

Jason Momoa Joining Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as Different Character? https://www.geekfeed.com/jason-momoa-joining-supergirl-woman-of-tomorrow/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 14:40:45 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83211 Jason Momoa had been cast as Aquaman for the DCEU, but that continuity has officially closed with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. It has been rumoured for a while that Momoa is still expected to appear in James Gunn’s DCU as a different character, and he could be making his debut sooner rather than later.

According to insider Daniel Richtman (via ComicBookMovie), Momoa may be joining the cast of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. What’s more, he won’t be coming back as the King of Atlantis, but as the rough-and-tumble space biker Lobo.

In the comics, Lobo is essentially a space bounty hunter. He’s virtually unkillable, but at the same time he has no real goals or plans for domination; so he’s considered more of a nuisance then a threat. That being said, even characters like Superman have a hard time taking him on.

Some can also make the read that Lobo is the DC’s version of Deadpool, but with more of that dirty biker flair that Wolverine is known for.

Of course, we should take this information with a grain of salt since nothing official has been announced, but Momoa himself has been hyping up his future for DC despite the ending of the Snyderverse. There’s also the fact that Lobo is a space character and Supergirl essentially is more connected to space than Superman is.

Until we get some official reveals, we’ll just have to wait and see. Though I’d love for Momoa to just keep doing Aquaman, I think he would be a fun Lobo as well.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set for a release on June 26, 2026.

Superman Set Photos Offer Better Look at David Corenswet’s Man of Steel (and More) https://www.geekfeed.com/david-corenswets-superman-images-revealed/ Wed, 26 Jun 2024 10:11:13 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83059 DC has been very sparing when it came to reveals of the new Superman from James Gunn, but with a recent wave of set photos hitting the internet, we have a better look at David Corenswet in his Man of Steel get-up.

Check these out (via JustJared):

Set photos have also been revealed of Rachel Brosnahan in costume as Lois Lane:

https://twitter.com/DCFilmNews/status/1805397029826576773

Besides Superman, the movie will also be featuring other established superheroes in DC. We don’t have images of Hawkgirl or Green Lantern, but we do have a look at Mister Terrific played by Edi Gathegi:

Going back to Superman, we can see just how brightly colored the outfit is in the sunlight. Not only does he have the signature trunks, but he’s also sporting the yellow belt as well. One particular element they also kept from the classic Superman designs is that he has the yellow shield on the back of the cape.

We don’t know how James Gunn plans to introduce this Superman to the big screen and his rebooted DCU, but it does look like he’s going to be running into a bunch of other heroes who could help him establish his role as a superhero.

With Zack Snyder’s incredibly serious take on the Man of Steel, it’s said that Corenswet’s Superman is going to be the more positive ‘beacon of hope’ that the character has always been throughout his comic book run.

Let’s just hope that Gunn’s passion for the project shines through and we get a completely original new take on Superman when he flies into theatres on July 11, 2025.

Set Photos Reveal New Look at David Corenswet’s Superman https://www.geekfeed.com/set-photos-reveal-new-look-at-corenswets-superman/ Mon, 24 Jun 2024 14:17:56 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83023 Guardians of the Galaxy  director James Gunn is currently hard at work on production for Superman, and fans have just been waiting for all kinds of updates to come out online.

Just in, some set photos from the film have revealed a different look at David Corenswet in his Man of Steel get-up. Check this out:

It’s not the best photo quality, seeing that these were just zoomed in from prop newspapers from the set, but we can see Superman stopping a train, and a look at the red trunks that were being obscured in the officially released photo.

With the film coming out in July 11 next year, it’s possible that we could get some kind of tease or reveal at the one-year countdown mark next month, but that’s just wishful thinking on my part. With Superman being one of the biggest DC properties, it would make sense for WB to build up as much hype as they can and have everyone excited for when the film finally drops on release day.

For now, it does seem that Gunn’s plans for the DCU are still pretty vague, but it does seem that he’s going to be rebooting the DCU already filled with all kinds of heroes already established. Superman alone is set to have new versions of heroes like Mister Terrific, Hawkgirl, Metamorpho, and Green Lantern Guy Gardner. Let’s not also forget that we’re also getting Supergirl in the film right before she gets her own spinoff in the next year.

Catch Superman when it soars into theatres on July 11, 2025.

James Gunn’s Superman to Have a ‘90s Mullet? https://www.geekfeed.com/james-gunns-superman-to-have-a-90s-mullet/ Mon, 18 Mar 2024 10:17:44 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81512 We’ve had about three versions of a movie Superman, and all versions seem to have one core look that each design sticks pretty close to. Everyone is expecting James Gunn’s Man of Steel to have his own original look for Superman, and some are guessing he could have a radical change in appearance this time around.

According to insider Daniel RPK (via @Cquill97), there’s been a reason why Superman actor David Corenswet has been wearing a hat throughout all of the promotional Superman posts—it’s because his Superman is said to be sporting a mullet, a classic Man of Steel look from the 90s.

Of course, nothing has been officially confirmed, but with a new Superman incoming, everyone is wondering just how Gunn plans to make this one stand out from the previous movie versions of Superman.

A post shared by James Gunn (@jamesgunn)

So far, the most radical change in Superman was featured in Man of Steel, with Superman losing the trunks and not having the signature “S” hair curl. His suit was also given some more elements to further add to the alien origin of the suit, but so far, anyone can tell he’s the classic Superman with just a simple look.

Personally, I’m hoping that Gunn gives us something iconic; and it’s kind of an impossible task when everyone has an idea of what Superman should look like. Either way, I’m expecting not everyone is going to be happy with what we get, but that’s just part of every huge fandom.

Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long for a reveal. Superman is set to soar into theaters on July 11, 2025.

The Batman Sequel Gets Massive Delay https://www.geekfeed.com/the-batman-sequel-gets-massive-delay/ Mon, 18 Mar 2024 09:31:16 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81500 The Batman starring Robert Pattinson was a massive hit when it came out in 2022, and everyone was excited for the sequel following up to this new, grimy, Caped Crusader. Originally, The Batman Part II was announced for a release in 2025, but the movie has just gotten a huge delay.

Deadline reports that The Batman sequel is moving from its original release date of October 3, 2025 to October 2, 2026. The reason for the delay is said to be the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that took place last year.

Some also say that this further release will give some room from the new DCU continuity that James Gunn and Peter Safran are kickstarting with Superman. Not to mention there is also a different Dark Knight film with Andy Muschietti called Batman: Brave and the Bold, which will have a new actor that isn’t Pattinson.

For now, it’s being said that Matt Reeves’ version of Batman is going to be part of an ‘Elseworlds’ brand for DC—which will also include Todd Phillips’ Joker movies.  It’s unclear where Gunn wants to take everything, but it does look like he and Safran are trying to future-proof the franchise by allowing light to be shed on lesser-known characters while at the same time releasing films for the more popular established DC icons.

Let’s just hope that the management in WB is going all-in on his plan, as compared to Zack Snyder who had a plan, but was beat down by studio meddling and blamed for the franchise’s failure.

The Batman Part II is set to release in theatres Oct. 2, 2026.

Kingsman Director Pitches a Superman: Red Son Movie Starring Henry Cavill https://www.geekfeed.com/superman-red-son-movie-starring-henry-cavill/ Thu, 08 Feb 2024 12:18:28 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80928 Black Adam may have given us hope that Cavill would be back, but with James Gunn rebooting everything, it looks like Cavill has finally been forced to hang up the cape—or has he?

In a recent interview with Post Cred Pod, Argylle director Matthew Vaughn pitches that he should make a Superman: Red Son movie with Cavill as the star. Here’s the interview clip:

https://twitter.com/PostCredPod/status/1754296837354164717

“I thought Red Son was one of the cleverest comics I’d ever read, and the current world we’re living in, it’s certainly become a lot more relevant,” says Vaughn.

For context, Superman: Red Son was an Elseworlds comic from Mark Millar which imagines Superman landing in Russia rather than the US when he was sent to Earth. With the Man of Steel being raised with communist ideals, Superman is able to make the world bend to Russia’s ideals, and the only one standing in his way is the US president Lex Luthor.

Not only do we get alternate versions of Superman, Lex, and everyone else in the Superman mythos, but we also get alternate versions of heroes like Wonder Woman, Batman, and Green Lantern.

WB actually released an animated adaptation of the comic back in 2020, but it did alternate a lot of elements from the comic that made the take a lot edgier:

So far, it does seem that Gunn is going back to square one, but he is said to be keeping a lot of other actors from the DCEU into his new DCU. Too bad there wasn’t any room for Henry Cavill to stay on.

We don’t know if there’s room in Gunn’s DC for a Red Son adaptation, but you can watch out for Vaughn’s Argylle now in theaters.

House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock has been Cast as Supergirl https://www.geekfeed.com/milly-alcock-has-been-cast-as-supergirl/ Tue, 30 Jan 2024 10:05:26 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80836 Milly Alcock’s run on House of the Dragon may have been a short one, but it looks like this dragon queen is ready to fly.

Reports had come out last week that Alcock was in the running to play Supergirl for James Gunn’s new DCU, and Variety has confirmed that Alcock is now going to be making her superheroine debut in Superman: Legacy, then headlining in her own feature film with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Besides Alcock, Disney Channel star Meg Donnelly had been considered for the part, with her having voiced Supergirl in animation. Though Alcock did get the live-action part, I don’t see why Donnelly can keep playing the voice of Supergirl moving forward.

We don’t know yet how Gunn and his team plan to tackle Supergirl down the line, but I do think that Alcock won the role because she looks significantly younger than Donnelly. What makes the dynamic between Clark and Kara interesting is that Kara is younger, but she knows more about Krypton than Clark does, having grown up there before it exploded.

For now, we’re just going to have to wait and see what everyone looks like in costume, but a lot of fans agree that Alcock is a solid pick for the character. Fingers crossed we get a first look before the year ends.

Watch out for Alcock when she makes her debut as Supergirl in Superman: Legacy which comes out July 11, 2025.

Rachel Brosnahan Teases Her ‘Marvelous’ Lois Lane for Superman: Legacy https://www.geekfeed.com/rachel-brosnahan-teases-superman-legacy/ Wed, 17 Jan 2024 09:31:42 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80619 With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 out of the way, James Gunn is now fully jumping into the DCU, and his first project is going to be his reboot of Superman with Superman: Legacy. Besides David Corenswet being cast as the Man of Steel, the film has also brought in Marvelous Mrs. Maisel lead Rachel Brosnahan to play Lois Lane.

We don’t know how Gunn is going to be treating Lois in his reboot, but Brosnahan does share some teases. Talking to ET, she was asked to give a few words to describe her Lois, Brosnahan went with, “Feisty. Dare I say, marvellous? And fiercely intelligent.”

Though the character of Lois Lane is considered to be the classic damsel in distress, modern incarnations of her have been rewritten to actually give her some more grit and have her stand beside Superman as an equally important character. Man of Steel has Lois being the one to discover Superman and his secret identity, and My Adventures with Superman frames Lois as the protagonist.

As for Brosnahan, she’s best known to be a spunky Jewish lady comic from the 1960s thanks to her role as Mrs. Maisel, but we don’t know how that will translate to a new character with Lois Lane. No doubt it’s also going to depend greatly on her chemistry with the new Superman, so we’ll just have to wait and see till Gunn gives us our first teaser—whenever that’s going to be.

In the same interview, Brosnahan also shared:

“I’ve really enjoyed the collaboration with James Gunn so far. Every single person involved with this production is such a perfect nerd for Superman. We all grew up watching the movies and some of us grew up reading the comics…

“I feel like it’s being made with so much love. This Superman will have a sense of humour…we’re excited to both put our own spin on things but also honour the material we love so much.”

Superman: Legacy is expected to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.

James Gunn Starts New Year by Revealing DCU Architects https://www.geekfeed.com/gunn-starts-new-year-by-revealing-dcu-architects/ Thu, 04 Jan 2024 09:40:10 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80355 Zack Snyder was considered to be the chief architect of the DCEU around the time that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice released, but with James Gunn and Peter Safran now taking over, a lot of fans thought that Gunn would be taking over that role.

What’s interesting is, on Threads, Gunn has shared that he’s actually hired an entire writers room of “DCU Architects” and he reveals all of them for the New Year. Here’s the post:

https://twitter.com/DCULatest/status/1741648087137792166

The photo also came with the caption:

2023 what a year! A lot of my favorite moments I can’t post because of spoilers, but here are a few from getaways to premieres to writers rooms to publicity tours to spreading my dad’s ashes in Ireland. 2023 was a year of hard work and incredible challenges – but so many wonderful moments within all that. Family, friends, dogs, and films forever. Thanks to everyone who made this year so great.❤ 2023

According to @DCULatest, the photo from left to right includes Chantal Nong (The Suicide Squad producer), Jeremy Slater (Head Writer for Moon Knight), Christina Hodson (Writer for The Flash and Birds of Prey), Drew Goddard (Writer for Daredevil), Christal Henry (Co-showrunner for Waller), Gunn (DCU Co-CEO) Tom King (DC Comics writer), Galen Waisman (Producer for The Flash), and Safran (DCU Co-CEO).

Though the team does have a lot of seasoned writers from the DC side of things, we also have some members who have worked for the Marvel side. Heck, some people can forget that Gunn also cut his teeth on Marvel properties before jumping onto DC; what with him bringing us the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

With Snyder not having a clear team of writers, hopefully Gunn presenting his whole team for his version of the DCU is a good sign. Then again, even Lucasfilm had a story group, and we saw how muddled up the Star Wars properties have gotten lately.

Let’s just hope that Gunn manages to pull this off when his DCU officially launches in 2025.

Zack Snyder Not in Any Hurry to be Part of James Gunn’s DCU https://www.geekfeed.com/snyder-not-in-hurry-to-be-part-of-james-gunns-dcu/ Mon, 01 Jan 2024 13:00:11 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80260 Zack Snyder’s falling out with DC was pretty well-documented, and it resulted in him slowly getting kicked out with Joss Whedon taking over for Justice League. Despite his exit, a lot of fans are still behind him and are hoping that there’s room for him in James Gunn’s new DCU. The thing is, Snyder himself doesn’t seem interested.

Talking to The Atlantic, Snyder was asked on whether he’s already talked to the new DC leadership, to which he says, “I’m not knocking on James Gunn’s door, going, like, ‘Bro, shoot me one of those sweet movies.’” For now, the goal for Snyder seems to be creating some original IP, like he’s doing with Netflix and Rebel Moon. He says, The holy grail is some original IP that you create, that has resonance and is cool.”

If anything, it does feel like Snyder has gotten out of the superhero bubble before it had started getting stale. All big DC releases for the year have been considered massive flops, and even Marvel Studios hasn’t been able to have the same kind of pull in the box office as it once did.

When it comes to the notion of superhero fatigue, Syder did say, “I have the same fatigue,” explaining that the genre has fallen into some kind of ‘cul-de-sac’ which doesn’t allow for self-contained stories. “No one thinks they’re going to a one-off superhero movie,” said Snyder.

For now, Snyder is focused on the launch of his Rebel Moon franchise, and you can watch the first part now streaming on Netflix.

The Batman: Part II Allegedly Including Dick Grayson a.k.a. Robin https://www.geekfeed.com/the-batman-part-ii-allegedly-including-robin/ Mon, 01 Jan 2024 11:41:14 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80239 Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves had successfully launched their own original take on The Batman, and now fans are waiting for the sequel which is set to come out in 2025. We don’t know exactly what plot the film could be about, but we have some new rumors about who could be appearing.

According to insider Daniel RPK (via @screentime), the sequel to The Batman will reportedly be including Bruce Wayne’s first sidekick Dick Grayson a.k.a. Robin. We don’t have any more details than that, but with James Gunn’s DCU allegedly introducing Damian Wayne’s Robin, it would be interesting to see an alternate version of the Boy Wonder—especially one that exists in this dark Gotham that Reeves has built.

If anything, it does feel like the Bat-franchise has been getting cold feed when it comes to giving Batman a Robin ever since the Schumacher films. We barely got Robin in Dark Knight Rises, and Robin was already dead when we meet Batman in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman.

With some considering The Batman to be a sort of return to form for the character, from dark and broody, to someone that inspires hope in people—it does feel like an introduction of a Robin would be the next step; after all Robin does represent the start of the ‘Bat-Family’ which will then include Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and several other Robins.

If Reeves can manage to pull off a 13-year-old Robin partnered up with Pattinson’s Batman, I’m convinced he can pull off anything.

The Batman: Part II is set to release in theaters on Oct. 3, 2025.

Sean Gunn to Play Maxwell Lord for James Gunn’s New DCU https://www.geekfeed.com/sean-gunn-to-play-maxwell-lord-in-dceu/ Tue, 12 Dec 2023 15:43:18 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80058 Sean Gunn has been in pretty much all of his brother James Gunn’s projects, and with Gunn taking over DC, having his brother Sean in a role was a no-brainer. Fans thought that Sean was already good as both Weasel and Calendar Man in The Suicide Squad, but it looks like there are bigger plans for him.

According to Deadline, Sean Gunn has been cast as the DCU’s Maxwell Lord. Though Lord isn’t expected to have a major role in Superman: Legacy, it’s said he would be referenced in the background, and will appear as a main character in a future project.

Maxwell Lord may not be on the same level of fame as Lex Luthor or the Joker, but he did play the main villain in Wonder Woman 1984 played by Pedro Pascal. Admittedly, a lot of people thought that Pascal’s Lord was a tad undercooked, but with Sean Gunn being cast in the role, we should expect a new take on the fan-favorite DC villain.

So far, Gunn has been a character actor who has played some memorable side roles, especially Kraglin in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Marvel fans also know that Gunn plays the body double for Rocket Racoon, but admittedly Bradley Cooper has been getting all the credit for that part.

If anything, I am ready for Sean Gunn to take the main stage, and I’m interested to see if he has what it takes to really be a solid villain. We know that Marvel has pretty much squandered some great casting in the MCU, but hopefully Gunn will manage to solve that problem with his growing DC Universe.

Superman: Legacy is set to come out July 11, 2025.

Nicholas Hoult to Play Lex Luthor in Superman: Legacy https://www.geekfeed.com/hoult-to-play-lex-luthor-in-superman-legacy/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 05:19:36 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=79776 Nicholas Hoult may have played fan-favorite Hank McCoy/Beast in the latter X-Men movies, but he’s now set to make the jump to DC as one of the world’s most infamous villains.

According to Deadline, Hoult has joined the cast of Superman: Legacy as Lex Luthor a.k.a. Superman’s archnemesis. We don’t have much detailers about this new Luthor, but we do know that Hoult will be acting opposite David Corenswet who will be playing Superman and Rachel Brosnahan who was cast as Lois Lane.

Oddly enough, the actor had recently auditioned for DC heroes in the past losing The Batman to Robert Pattinson and Superman to Corenswet. Even so, a lot of fans are excited that Hoult got the role for Lex, seeing that he does know how to play a complicated villain thanks to his work on Hulu’s The Great.

The last people to play Luthor on the big screen have been Kevin Spacey way back in the ‘00s with Superman Returns and Jesse Eisenberg in the ‘10s with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Admittedly, not everyone was onboard for Eisenberg’s take of the character, but I was willing to see just how far his Lex went in the original plans—too bad we’re just never going to be able to see it happen.

As for Hoult, his version of Luthor will have to be depend on how Gunn wants to tackle the character. We know that Lex is always smart and conniving, but I would love it if Hoult managed to make the character fun to watch as well.

Catch Superman: Legacy when it releases in theaters on July 11, 2025.

Latest Trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has Arthur’s Son Kidnapped by Black Manta https://www.geekfeed.com/latest-trailer-for-aquaman-and-the-lost-kingdom-2/ Wed, 22 Nov 2023 04:30:35 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=79772 The old DC universe is on its final legs, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is considered to be the last we will see of anyone from the Snyderverse continuity. The film is set to release this December, and we have a new trailer marking the start of sale for tickets.

Watch this:

Anyone who knows anything about the Aquaman lore will probably read this as the Empire Strikes Back movie for Arthur going up against Manta, but the trailer is somehow really leaning in on the fun aspect of the film, what with Arthur still full of quips and the undersea world being more colorful than anything we saw in the live-action The Little Mermaid.

With “Junior” expected to be the son of Arthur and Mera (Amber Heard), it’s also pretty awkward that we don’t get to see her in the trailer at all; she barely shows up in the other promotional material as well.

Admittedly, I would like to be excited for the film, but seeing that James Gunn has already announced that he’s rebooting everything—plus all the behind-the-scenes drama that was said to be happening with Heard and the rest of the crew—it’s kind of hard to remain optimistic for The Lost Kingdom.

I guess if they are going out, I would just love them to go with a bang. Catch Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom when it releases in theaters on Dec. 22.

“That Sh*t Broke Me”: David Ayer on How the Studio Changed His Original Vision for Suicide Squad https://www.geekfeed.com/ayer-studio-changed-his-vision-for-suicide-squad/ Thu, 31 Aug 2023 03:22:33 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=78449 When fans got their first teaser for Suicide Squad back in 2016, the film was teased to be a dark serious movie around the same vein as Batman v Superman; but after the divisive reception of BvS, the film had decided to do a hard pivot and a lot of what was originally planned by director David Ayer was changed.

Ayer has been very vocal online about wanting to release his cut of the movie (not unlike #ReleaseTheSnyderCut), but he goes into more detail about what went down behind the scenes during an appearance on Jon Bernthal’s Real Ones podcast. Ayer says:

“Hollywood—I tell people—is like watching someone you love get f*cked by someone you hate… The big one is Suicide Squad. That shit broke me. That handed me my ass.”

For context, here was the original tone of Suicide Squad when it was first revealed at Comic-Con 2016:

By the time the movie came out, the film had become more comedic in tone, and it was said that the studio had hired a trailer company to re-edit the movie and make it more “fun”. Ayer continues:

“Come right off Fury, right? I had the town in my hand—could’ve done anything, and I did do anything. And go on this journey with it. And the same thing—authentic, truthful, let’s do all the rehearsal, let’s really get in each other’s souls. Let’s create this amazing, collaborative thing, right? And then Deadpool opened, and they never tested Batman v. Superman, so they were expecting a different result and then they got hammered by all the critics. Then it’s like, ‘Okay, we’re going to turn David Ayer’s dark, soulful movie into a f*cking comedy now.’”

@realonesjonbernthal David Ayer talks about his experience on Suicide Squad #jonbernthal #dceu #warnerbros #margotrobbie #willsmith ♬ original sound – Real Ones Podcast

Among the plot points that were said to have been dropped from the original plan was the emphasis on the toxic relationship between Harley and Joker; plus an affair between her and Deadshot. With so many people also hating on Jared Leto’s version of Joker, Ayer has gone to say that no one has ever seen his ‘real’ performance since the studio butchered down what Ayer described as a ‘terrifying’ Clown Prince of Crime.

For now, fans—and Ayer himself—have been trying to  get an online campaign for #ReleaseTheAyerCut online, but with DC’s new management, it’s starting to look unlikely we’ll get the film released.

Who knows, maybe with enough Multiverse hype and another pandemic, maybe Ayer’s Suicide Squad would eventually see the light of day.

Margot Robbie Allegedly Keeping Harley Quinn Role for DCU https://www.geekfeed.com/robbie-allegedly-keeping-harley-quinn-role/ Tue, 15 Aug 2023 14:12:53 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=78248 The DCU is currently in the process of ‘soft-rebooting’ itself, and while some actors may have left the franchise, there are some that James Gunn and Peter Safran are allegedly going to keep.

One rumor that’s come out is that Barbie star Margot Robbie, who had played the role of Harley Quinn since 2016’s Suicide Squad, is apparently going to keep playing the character moving forward. This comes from @MyTimeToShineH:

Granted, there hasn’t been anything official about Robbie keeping the role, but she is one of the most celebrated parts of the old DCEU, and when rumors were going around that Gunn would be rebooting everything, a lot of fans stepped up to have him keep Robbie as Harley.

For now, we don’t really know what Gunn plans to do with Harley. The last we saw of her was when she was in the helicopter having just saved the world from an alien mind-controlling starfish. There were rumors going around that they wanted to have Harley pair up with Poison Ivy down the line, but we haven’t gotten any official updates. There were some that thought that Harley could be in a Gotham City Sirens film, but we haven’t got any updates on that for years.

If anything, it would be great if they could get Robbie back. Personally, I’m still up for director David Ayer releasing his original take on Suicide Squad before the studio meddling, but that could just lead to more muddying of the timeline.

Hopefully Gunn gives us an update soon. For now, catch Robbie in Barbie now screening in theaters.

Possible Concept Art Leaked for Superman: Legacy https://www.geekfeed.com/possible-concept-art-leaked-for-superman-legacy/ Fri, 11 Aug 2023 14:55:56 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=78202 Updates have been slow and steady for James Gunn’s Superman reboot, and we already have the lead roles in the form of Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane) and David Corenswet (Clark Kent). The Superman: Legacy movie is probably deep in pre-production right now, and though it could be a while before we see anyone in costume, some alleged concept art has leaked online of the new look for the Man of Steel.

Check this out:

https://twitter.com/TaurooAldebaran/status/1689497247715606529

Take note, nothing official has been confirmed about the look for Legacy, but it definitely feels like it could be the costume that Gunn could go for. Though a lot of the elements look signature to the traditional appearance of Superman, the colors of the shield have been reversed to have a yellow ‘S’ on a red background—a design choice from Superman variant Calvin Ellis, who was said to be inspired by Barack Obama.

Besides Superman, the art also features other heroes like Hawkgirl and Mister Terrific. We don’t exactly know what kind of role they could have in DC, but it is said that Gunn is going to be putting his Superman in a world where other heroes already exist. I wouldn’t be surprised if this new up-and-coming Superman will have to be trained by other heroes to grow into the mantle of the OG superhero that Superman is known for.

Again, nothing official has been confirmed about this Legacy concept art, but seeing that it’s going to be a while before the film’s release, it’s the best fans can get in the meantime.

Superman: Legacy flies into theaters on July 11, 2025.

Gal Gadot Confirms Wonder Woman 3 is Still in the Works https://www.geekfeed.com/wonder-woman-3-is-still-in-the-works/ Sun, 06 Aug 2023 17:04:17 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=78088 After director Patty Jenkins left, and James Gunn took over and confirmed the DCU was rebooting, fans were convinced that Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman days were over; but that apparently isn’t the case.

Talking to ComicBook, Gadot has confirmed that WW3 starring herself is still a go, and she’ll be working on development with the DC co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. Gadot shares, “I love portraying Wonder Woman… It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together.”

So far, no details about the story or director has been revealed for the project, but it would be safe to say that the story will take place in the new established continuity of James Gunn’s DC. So far, only Blue Beetle has been confirmed to take place in that timeline, but fans are eagerly waiting for more details down the line.

Out of all the original Zack Snyder Justice League members, it’s probably Gal Gadot who has appeared in more recent properties, cementing her Wonder Woman role. She had appeared in a short cameo in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and she also made a brief appearance in The Flash.

With both Wonder Woman films having been period pieces, it would be great if we could actually follow Diana in a modern setting, and see how she deals with women issues in today’s world.

I’m just crossing my fingers they hire back Patty Jenkins. Though I wasn’t the biggest fan of WW84, I think Jenkins deserves to see her story through.

No release date has been announced for Wonder Woman 3.
