Now WB is looking to milk the Watchmen cow again with an animated adaptation of the Alan Moore’s seminal graphic novel.

Here’s a look at Watchmen Chapters 1 and 2:

Who watches the Watchmen? Catch Watchmen Chapters I & II, a faithful animated adaptation of the iconic graphic novel! The Clock is Ticking…

Note that the key word here is ‘faithful.’ Though Snyder did attempt to recreate as much of the original comic frame by frame, he did manage to change a few things. Besides the more violent tone that the movie had, the ending was also changed so that instead of the ‘goofy’ doomsday device that was an artificial alien squid, Snyder instead had Ozymandias killing millions of people by duplicating Doctor Manhattan’s powers and blaming everything on him.

Admittedly, the alien squid would have seemed pretty goofy back in 2009, but Watchmen 2019 was able to pull it off with the moment feeling every bit as terrifying in the comic.

As for the animated Watchmen, I’m honestly not a fan of the What If…? aesthetic, but so far fans have been pretty positive about seeing a new take on the classic book. Hopefully this time the animation will address some of the things from the film that people have issues with.

Watch out for the animated Watchmen which is set to come out later this year.

Netflix’s The Sandman Reveals The Complete Roster of The Endless https://www.geekfeed.com/netflixs-the-sandman-reveals-the-endless/ Sat, 25 May 2024 16:03:58 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82517 Netflix’s The Sandman may be about the character Dream, but we know that he’s only one of several “Endless” beings that populate this mystical universe. We’ve met Death, Desire, and Despair, and now Netflix has revealed to us the rest of the Endless—making a roster of Seven.

Check out the official announcement:

So to round out the Endless cast, we have Tom Sturridge as Dream, Kirby as Death, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, Donna Preston as Despair, Adrian Lester as Destiny, Esme Creed-Miles as Delirium/Delight, and Barry Sloane as The Prodigal/Destruction.

Though each member of the Endless like to stay in their own particular realms, it was Destruction that decided to abandaon his realm, and is considered to be the wisest of all the Endless. Since he doesn’t keep his place in the Endless pantheon, he is reffered to by his siblings as the Prodigal.

With The Sandman being such a celebrated comic, there was a lot of pressure for the first season to actually deliver as the adaptation had spent years in development hell. Though it wasn’t perfect though, Sandman was still able to generate enough buzz that Netflix gave it the greenlight for a second season.

We don’t know how long they plan to keep the series going, but there are definitely a lot of stories that The Sandman can draw from just looking at the source material.

No release date has been set for the second season of The Sandman, but it’s possible that it could premiere sometime later this year on Netflix.

Netflix Drops Final Trailer for Sweet Tooth https://www.geekfeed.com/netflix-drops-final-trailer-for-sweet-tooth/ Thu, 18 Apr 2024 09:59:20 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82043 Robert Downey Jr. may not have been able to kick off a kid-friendly franchise with Dolittle, but he was able to go the family-friendly adventure route with his series Sweet Tooth.

The series is now gearing up for the release of the final season, and we have a new teaser. Check this out:

Here’s the synopsis for the third season (as per Bloody Disgusting):

“Having defeated General Abbot in the battle at Pubba’s Cabin, Gus (Christian Convery), Jepperd (Nonso Anozie), Becky (Stefania LaVie Owen), and Wendy (Naledi Murray) embark on a journey to Alaska in search of Gus’s mother, Birdie (Amy Seimetz), who has been working to uncover the mysterious origins of the deadly Sick. Along the way, they are joined by Dr. Singh (Adeel Akhtar), who may have his own dangerous beliefs about Gus and his role in reversing the virus. Meanwhile, a new threat emerges in the form of Helen Zhang (Rosalind Chao), her daughter Rosie (Kelly Marie Tran), and the ferocious Wolf Boys, who seek to restart human birth and view Gus as the solution to their plans.

“As they navigate through perilous terrain, Gus and his group of friends find refuge at the Outpost in Alaska, where they meet a new ensemble of characters including Siana (Cara Gee) and her hybrid daughter Nuka (Ayazhan Dalabayeva). With the clock to find answers running out, alliances are tested and destinies intertwine, all leading to a thrilling climax that will determine the fate of humanity and hybrids.”

3 Body Problem fans will immediately ecorgnize Rosaline Chao who will be playing a new threat for Gus and friends; add on top of that Kelly Marie Tran, who is best known for playing Rose in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Lucasfilm may have sidelined her in The Rise of Skywalker, but I’m honestly just happy to see Tran acting in something else.

Admittedly Sweet Tooth wasn’t able to get the same kind of mass appeal as Stranger Things or Squid Game, but the show does look fantastic, and it does have very interesting lore with the hybrids and the Sick.

I guess a lot of people were just weary when this show launched since it did show a global pandemic, and this released around the time COVID was still pretty much a threat.

Hopefully Sweet Tooth manages to end with a bang.

The final season of Sweet Tooth comes to Netflix on June 6.

DC Launches New Slice-of-Life Webcomic Batman: Wayne Family Adventures https://www.geekfeed.com/dc-launches-new-slice-of-life-webcomic-batman-wayne-family-adventures/ Thu, 09 Sep 2021 10:59:32 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61419 Though comics have been around for a while, webcomics are a generally new medium where artists create comics exclusively for the web. DC has teamed up with Webtoon for a new comic called Batman: Wayne Family Adventures, and you can read the first three chapters now online.

Here’s the official launch announcement:

https://twitter.com/webtoonofficial/status/1435649130509000717

and you can read the comic here.

Though Batman is known mostly for his dark tone and action, Wayne Family Adventures embraces the slice-of-life genre and has Bruce, along with the rest of his Bat-family, getting into family-friendly, light-hearted shenanigans.

The comic also introduces us to the newest addition of the Bat-fam, Duke Thomas, and the comic starts with him moving into Wayne manor and getting acquainted with the rest of the team. Besides Duke, we have all the fan-favorites like Damien Wayne, Jason Todd, Cassandra Cain, and Tim Drake. Even Comissioner Gordon gets an appearance beside original Batgirl (now Oracle) Barbara.

DC general manager Daniel Cherry III (via CBR) had this to say about the new series:

“DC is excited to introduce our iconic characters to a new generation of fans worldwide… We’ve been working closely with the Webtoon writers and artists to adapt our characters and stories to Webtoon’s mobile format. Our shared goal is to create fun and compelling DC stories that all readers will enjoy. This partnership is yet another example of DC’s ambition to ‘meet fans where ever they are’ and continue sharing DC fandom.”

Take note that this won’t be official canon, but rather just a fun look at the world of the Dark Knight. I have to say, the art from lead artist StarBite looks perfect for the tone of the series, and it’s going to be fun to see Bruce’s relationship with the rest of the Bat-Family aside from crimefighting. Hopefully writer CRC Payne has some more fun chapters incoming; Bat-beach episode, anyone?

Read the first few chapters of Batman: Wayne Family Adventures  today on Webtoon.

Comic Writer Grant Morrison Thinks Evil Superman Storylines are ‘Ridiculous’ https://www.geekfeed.com/comic-writer-grant-morrison-thinks-evil-superman-storylines-are-ridiculous/ Wed, 07 Jul 2021 10:11:56 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60391 With Superman being considered a ‘beacon of hope’ in comics for decades, new stories have tried to experiment with the character, like Injustice turning him into an evil tyrant. Though some people love these stories, Superman writer Grant Morrison thinks they’re way out of character when it comes to the Man of Steel.

Talking to CBR, Morrison thinks that storylines where Superman turns evil because of the death of Lois Lane are not strong enough reasons for Kal-El to turn to the dark side. He says:

“It’s something I’ve come to terms with and pared down to it coming down to the patriarchal structures that have been oppressing us and Superman can easily be made to be representative of that. This dad-like figure looking out for us can be made authoritarian but I think that’s a mistake… I think the idea that Superman would react to the death of Lois Lane by becoming a tyrant is ridiculous; my mum and dad died and I didn’t become a tyrant. If I can handle it, Superman can handle it.”

For now, Morrison is promoting his new Superman run with Mikel Janin called Superman and the Authority, and he says that it will have a different take when it comes to ‘tyrant Superman.’ Morrison explains:

“I think there’s a certain degree of, if he’s that powerful, couldn’t he change things? We’re kind of leaning into the idea that he’s a really good man and wants to do the best for us but he’s not actually human. He doesn’t want to break us but he’s gotten to the point where he thinks maybe he should break us, maybe we need this… It’s slightly scarier than Superman as an authoritarian dad with heat vision eyes, it’s more of an alien perspective saying, ‘I’ve had enough of you. You’ve been messing up too long and are really going to hurt yourselves if I don’t do something.'”

While Lois Lane dying is admittedly a flimsy excuse for Superman turning bad, there are some stories that I think deal with the tyrant Superman trope really well. For one, Mark Millar’s Superman: Red Son also has a dictator Superman figure, but you can tell that he’s not a bad guy, just raised with Soviet ideologies. It’s going to be interesting to see Morrison will set his take apart from Millar’s.

Superman and the Authority #1 comes out on July 20.
