According to insider Daniel Richtman (via World of Reel), James Mangold’s (Logan, A Complete Unknown) Star Wars movie, tentatively titled Dawn of the Jedi, could be starting production early next year. We don’t have any details past that, but with Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic coming out, he could be free next year to finally get started on his Star Wars movie. Previously, he was also attached to a Boba Fett solo movie, but things didn’t really push through.

We don’t know much about Dawn of the Jedi yet, but it’s said that it will explore the origins of the Jedi and that it will take place 25,000 years into the past. For context, The Acolyte only takes place 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, so there’s definitely a lot of undiscovered ground when it comes to that story.

With this news just coming from Richtman, and directors seemingly getting dropped left and right, it’s understandable that fans would want to wait till cameras actually start rolling before they suddenly get excited. I mean, even the Rey movie with director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is finding a hard time to get off the ground.

At this point, the only project I’m sure is going to happen is the Mandalorian movie—but that clearly is only pandering to one specific side of the fandom.

No release date has been announced for Mangold’s Star Wars movie. In the meantime, you can catch Mangold’s A Complete Unknown when it hits theaters this Christmas.
