With the announcement that Kennedy is set to retire by the end of the year, fans online have been wondering just who her successor is going to be, and The Hollywood Reporter has come up with a list of possible nominations put together with some inside information.
So far, the THR list for the next Lucasfilm president includes:
One other name that should have been on the list was longtime Lucasfilm executive Rayne Roberts who was said to have been groomed by Kennedy to take over for her, but she was recently announced as Searchlight’s new senior VP of production, so it’s not likely she’s going to jump ship anytime soon.
As for the rest of the list Abrams was said to have had a nightmare experience with The Rise of Skywalker, so it’s likely he won’t be coming back. Watts was a respected executive that delivered the X-Men and Avatar movies for Fox; and Minghella used to work for Abrams and has had a long stint with kid-friendly movies at Sony Pictures like Cloudy with a Chance of Meetballs, Goosebumps, and Hotel Transylvania.
Marvel head Kevin Feige is too busy restructuring Marvel after they made serious fumbles after Endgame; so the top choices are (unfortunately) Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. It’s even suggested that they could be co-presidents—much like James Gunn and Peter Safran for DC Studios.
It’s worth noting that while Filoni and Favreau have been behind some of the most buzzed about Star Wars content, the position of president for Lucasfilm is not so creative and is more on the business side of things. One producer for Star Wars said, ““What people don’t understand is that it’s not a creative job… That’s about 10 percent. The rest of it is dealing with Disney, licensing and fans.”
Kennedy was a seasoned producer with several hit movies under her belt before she was handpicked by George Lucas to take over for him. It’s only natural that the next leader of Star Wars should have the right balance as well.
For now, fans are arguing about what’s the best direction to go, but whoever Kennedy picks, I’m hopeful that they do a good job and manage to get Star Wars out of its nostalgia rut.
]]>Now it looks like there has been a shake-up in the Lucasfilm hierarchy.
As some redditors have pointed out (via Star Wars News Net) Derek Hoffman has been appointed as the new VP of Development; he’s replacing Rayne Roberts, who until December 2024 still had the job.
For context, Roberts had helped develop The Acolyte with Leslye Headland, which was eventually cancelled. We don’t know what Hoffman has to bring to the table yet, but has has worked as an executive producer for several of the Fox X-Men films including Days of Future Past as well as FX series like Legion and The Gifted.
Here’s what the official Lucasfilm page had to say about him:
“Since attending Indiana University, Derek Hoffman has worked in the film, video game and comic book industry for the last 24 years. Getting his start with The Donners’ Company as a runner, he quickly moved into an assistant role for director Richard Donner and then to associate producer on the feature film Timeline and co-producer on 16 Blocks. Derek next became a development executive and later vice president for the company where he worked on each film in the X-Men franchise, including as associate producer on X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Derek ultimately spearheaded the franchise’s move into television serving as co-executive producer on the FX series Legion and as executive producer on FOX’s The Gifted.
At Lucasfilm, Derek will help lead the team that develops our stories for adaptation in live action.”
Based on the description, it looks like Hoffman is only going to specifically focus on live-action projects. Some suspect that he could be attached to the trilogy being developed by Simon Kinberg, but it’s possible that he could be dipping his toes on Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau territory with The Mandalorian.
I’m just hoping he gives Skeleton Crew the greenlight for Season 2 soon.
]]>Nothing much has been described about the plot of the movie besides that it focuses on the two stars of The Mandalorian series, but Star Wars News Net may have dropped some new details. According to the site, the movie could focus on Din Djarin and his adopted son going on a rescue mission for Rotta the Hutt (a.k.a. the son of Jabba the Hutt played by Jeremy Allen White from The Bear).
Funnily enough, the rescue of Rotta being a plot point would be circling back to The Clone Wars movie that released in theatres; that movie also had Rotta being rescued, but at that point, he was a baby, and his rescuers were Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker.
Besides the rescue mission plot, the site also confirms that another Clone Wars original character Embo would be coming back for the film, and this time, he’ll be voiced by Dave Filoni. Embo has shown up in several episodes of The Clone Wars and has teamed up with all-time favourites like Boba Fett, Bossk, and Asajj Ventress. He’s just another animated character making his way to live-action like Cad Bane did in Book of Boba Fett.
I’ll be honest, the Filoni projects have been mostly nostalgia bait at this point after Ahsoka, and it looks like Mando and Grogu could be going the same direction. Since we don’t have a trailer yet though, I’m willing to give Lucasfilm the benefit of the doubt. We’ll just have to wait and see when we’ll get our first look.
The Mandalorian and Grogu comes to cinemas on May 22, 2026.
]]>According to Star Wars News Net, McGregor could be making another comeback as Obi-Wan in the second season of Ahsoka. It’s said that he would be reprising Obi-Wan during a Clone Wars flashback and will also share scenes with Ariana Greenblatt, who plays the younger Ahsoka.
Besides McGregor, the site also says that Hayden Christensen is going to return in a bigger role as Anakin Skywalker this time around. Christensen had a recurring role as Anakin in the first season as a hologram, then as a vision, but he comes back as a Force Ghost to connect with Ahsoka by the end of the season.
With Dave Filoni at the helm of the series, it’s no mystery that Ahsoka was littered with all kinds of Easter Eggs to previously established lore; but a lot of fans have caught wise to Filoni’s tendency for nostalgia-baiting, and a lot weren’t too happy with Ahsoka’s character essentially being a bland Jedi who spends most of the series crossing her arms and slightly smiling at Sabine.
It’s unclear if Filoni was able to address this problem for the second season, but with him also working on the Mandalorian and Grogu movie, it’s best to assume that he’s been pretty busy since Ahsoka aired.
Ahsoka Season 2 is set to start shooting this year, and Lucasfilm is planning to release The Mandalorian and Grogu in theatres on May 22, 2026.
]]>The second season is currently underway, and Star Wars creative head Dave Filoni offers a little update on the series. Talking to Extra TV during the Skeleton Crew premiere, Filoni confirmed:
“I’m so well into [Ahsoka Season 2] as well. I’ve been writing it. I’m still the single writer on it. So I’m enjoying doing that, but it’s a challenge of course. Working some of these arcs through has been a challenge and making sure that it’s all going to come out in a way that is exciting for fans. I know that they’re interested in where some of the things I developed in Season 1 go. I’m pretty happy with it. We’ll see…It’s my next thing [to work on]. It’s coming up.”
We don’t have any update on the series, but the finale of the first season did have Ezra coming back home to Hera and Chopper, but Ahsoka and Sabine did end up stranded on Peridea in exchange. As for Thrawn, he managed to escape the system Ezra trapped him in, but it seems like all the other Dark Side-leaning characters like Baylan and Shin just ended up on Peridea as well.
While there were certainly a lot of things to enjoy about the series, one big issue fans had was the depiction of Ahsoka, who seems to have become one of the more boring parts of the show. Though Rosario Dawson does look the part, Ahsoka’s character just spends a lot of the series crossing her arms and smiling slightly at Sabine.
No release date has been set for Ahsoka Season 2, but fans are hoping for a premiere next year.
]]>Check this out:
The series is said to have six different shorts, all focusing on different characters around the time of the Clone Wars and the Original Trilogy.
Barriss Offee was a fan-favorite character from the Prequels whose fate was left uncertain after the end of The Clone Wars, and we’re going to see where her story goes during the rise of the Empire.
Morgan Elsbeth, who was also a main player in The Mandalorian and Ahsoka also gets her backstory fleshed out with Thrawn and a clash with Grievous and the Night Sisters.
With the upcoming series The Acolyte said to be focusing on the blind side of the Jedi, it’s interesting that the Tales series would choose to focus on the villains this time. I don’t expect to be an all-out endorsement of the Dark Side by Disney or Lucasfilm, but what fun is fiction when it can only focus on heroes?
I’m just hoping we get more connections to the Sequel Trilogy moving forward, but it’s possible that the era is still too fragile to touch with Lucasfilm still trying to figure out a good re-entry point.
Star Wars: Tales of the Empire comes to Disney+ on May 4. Tales of the Jedi is now streaming.
]]>The series has been getting a lot of acclaim from fans, and now they’re gearing up for the final season. And in true Filoni fashion, the trailer has a reveal for one more fan-favorite. Check this out:
With Omega in the custody of the Empire and the death of members like Tech, it does look like the Bad Batch is down to only two original members left—Hunter and Wrecker. The trailer showcases that Crosshair is still working for the Empire, but seeing that he doesn’t look to happy to be there, it’s likely we could see him redeem himself and help free Omega.
No doubt, the biggest reveal is that of Asajj Ventress, who had been killed off in the canon story Star Wars: Dark Disciple which came out in 2015. In that book, Vetress sacrifices herself for her lover Quinlan Vos, and was buried on Dathomir.
We don’t know exactly what the series has planned for her, but she does come with a snazzy new haircut and is wielding a yellow lightsaber—just like her appearance in Dark Disciple. She was supposed to be dead by the end of the Clone Wars, so maybe we could be seeing her in a flashback.
Then again, nobody really stays dead in Star Wars, so I’m not ruling out a clone.
The final season of The Bad Batch premieres on Disney+ with three episodes on Feb. 21.

It’s not clear who is actually in the picture, but it does seem that it’s Ahsoka and Sabine still stuck on the planet Peridea. The finale also had us see Baylan (Ray Stevenson) standing on the edge of the statues of the Mortis Gods, and it’s likely that Ahsoka and Sabine could be on the same path as him.
Though Thrawn was able to escape along with Ezra who has finally found his way back to the Rebel Alliance, the show had ended with two pairs of master and apprentice stuck in the unknown regions. The big difference is that Ahsoka and Sabine are still together, while Baylan had left his apprentice Shin to fend for herself.
We don’t know exactly where the series is headed, but it does seem like we could see Shin turning over to Ahsoka’s side in the future. The fans also have a huge following for the “Wolfren” a.k.a. Sabine x Shin ship, and since The Rise of Skywalker made ‘Reylo’ a thing, I don’t think it’s impossible we could see a romance blossom between both padawans.
Then again, we don’t know if Disney or Lucasfilm is open enough to putting LGBT representation in the spotlight. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
In the meantime, catch the first season of Ahsoka now streaming on Disney+.
]]>As per an official announcement, we’re getting The Mandalorian and Grogu as a theatrically released film, and it will be directed by Mando creator and Iron Man director Jon Favreau. Here’s the post:
The Mandalorian and Grogu are headed to the big screen.
Directed by Jon Favreau, and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni, The Mandalorian & Grogu will go into production later this year.
This is the Way.https://t.co/LMRjrje9Dw pic.twitter.com/mLYSmUaV2k
— Star Wars (@starwars) January 9, 2024
Kennedy also told StarWars.com, “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen.”
We don’t have any details on the movie yet, but we do know that Dave Filoni and Kathleen Kennedy are attached as producers; and with Filoni onboard, you can expect a lot of fanservice and callbacks to The Clone Wars and the Original Trilogy.
It has been said that the Disney+ shows like Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, and The Mandalorian were building up to something huge (like Avengers: Endgame-level huge), and this movie could very well be the start of it.
If anything, fans have started to get a bit skeptical about the Star Wars Disney+ shows, and it does feel like they are more content in just becoming ‘action figure commercials’ than having an actual interesting story. But with shows like Andor proving that Star Wars can still be interesting, maybe a Mando movie will manage to surprise everyone in theaters.
But do they really have to keep the title The Mandalorian and Grogu? How about The Mandalorians?
No release date has been announced for The Mandalorian and Grogu, but the movie is set to start filming later this year. You can catch three seasons of The Mandalorian now streaming on Disney+.
]]>“Obviously, there’s a story there. We’re in a wait-and-see pattern at this point. But I’m glad the conversation is about Ray and how great he was,” Filoni told Vanity Fair, “I used to have mini debates with him and say, ‘Ray, you’re the villain here.’ And he’d be like, ‘I don’t think so.’ I was like, ‘I know you don’t think so, but you are. I love that you’re playing it like you’re not.’ Which is exactly the way Baylan thinks”
When fans last saw Baylan, he was walking toward a monument that had the Mortis gods, a family of strong Force users that were introduced to the canon in the animated Clone Wars. We don’t know exactly what Baylan plans to do with the gods of Mortis, but he has heavily hinted that he wants to perfect the culture around the Force users—something beyond the Jedi and the Sith.
My theory was actually that Baylan would be the one to start the Knights of Ren, but since nothing was confirmed in the first season, we’ll all just have to wait and see what happens. Though it is hard that Stevenson had to pass, some fans seem to be fine if they just recast the role with someone like Jon Hamm.

With Anakin being 22-years-old around the time of Revenge of the Sith, a lot of fans have been quick to point out that Anakin is supposed to be only 19-years-old in this image of him in armor—further emphasizing the sibling dynamic between him and Ahsoka.
They didn’t reveal a standee of tiny Ahsoka from the show, but older Ahsoka with the white robe also gets her own standee:

So far, the return of Anakin Skywalker has been the highlight for the series, and it is kind of hinted that Anakin will have some kind of presence for the rest of the Ahsoka show, what with the finale showing that he’s watching over Ahsoka and her own student in the form of Sabine.
It is kind of odd that Anakin would be watching over Ahsoka more as compared to Luke, but I guess it makes more sense since we’ve watched Anakin grow with Ahsoka more. It also doesn’t help that they need a fully CG-render of Luke Skywalker to put him to screen instead of just a recast.
Was Sebastian Stan too busy with his Marvel projects?

We’ve known for a while that Ahsoka and Sabine will be at the heart of the series, but it has also been heavily teased that we’ll also be looking in-depth at the relationship between Ahsoka and Anakin. Though the two did have fleshed out relationship in The Clone Wars, a lot of fans who haven’t checked out that show are still curious of what the two would look like in live-action.
We already had Hayden Christensen return for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, and fans are hoping he also gets a chance to shine with Ahsoka, even if Vader is likely already dead by this time. Who knows, maybe we could be seeing Anakin as Force Ghost post-Return of the Jedi. Even Kenobi had teased a small comeback for Qui-Gon Jinn.
With a mixed reception for The Mandalorian’s latest season, a lot of fans are hoping that Ahsoka will deliver. I’m just hoping Dave Filoni doesn’t rely too heavily on his fanservicing—which he has a tendency to do whenever he’s behind the wheel of Mandalorian or Book of Boba Fett.
Look out for the 2-episode premiere of Ahsoka on Disney+ streaming on Aug. 23.

Though we are expected to see more characters than just Ahsoka, Sabine, and Hera, the poster could possibly hint that the three will be at the center of the series; let’s also not forget that Ezra is also going to be in the show, and it’s him that Ahsoka and Sabine will be looking for.
As for the Dark Side users in the show, it’s unclear whether they are Sith or simply Inquistors, but some think that them brandishing orange lightsaber could mean that they’re in a completely independent faction—maybe one that’s more loyal to Thrawn than to Palpatine.
So far, the series looks like every other Star Wars show, but with Dave Filoni at the helm, you can bet a lot of fans are going to be tuning in for the premiere day. Though Mandalorian didn’t have the best reception, Andor was still critically acclaimed, and it would be great if Ahsoka managed to follow suit.
Watch out for the 2-episode premiere of Ahsoka on Disney+ this coming Aug. 23.
]]>Check this out:
Ever since her debut in The Mandalorian, fans know that Ahsoka is on a mission to find Grand Admiral Thrawn, and it looks like they’ll finally come head-to-head in this show. Of course, we also have some familiar faces from Rebels including Sabine the Mandalorian as well as Rebel pilot Hera Syndulla.
We don’t know who Ray Stevenson and Ivanna Sakhno’s characters are yet, but it definitely looks like they’re working for the Dark Side. Though it’s easy to brand them as Inquisitors, it’s possible they could be another faction, counting their orange lightsabers.
With Thrawn being branded Heir to the Empire, rumors are swirling that this series will actually build up to the creation of the First Order that we meet in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. Though there are some that believe that Lucasfilm is erasing the ST from canon, it does look like they’re ready to revisit that era after enough time has passed since The Rise of Skywalker.
I’m just hoping Filoni manages to tone down his reliance for nostalgia with this series, because fans are already starting to get tired of his formula.
Watch out for the 2-episode premiere of Ahsoka when it streams on Disney+ on Aug. 23.
]]>As per the latest spot that’s been dropped for the movie, Ahsoka will premiere on Disey+ on August 23. Watch this:
The teaser kind of repeats a lot of the shots we’ve seen in the previous trailers, but we do have some new visuals, specifically Sabine wielding what seems to be Ezra’s lightsaber.
The last time we saw Sabine wielding something like a lightsaber was when she was training to use the Darksaber herself in Star Wars Rebels. The Mandalorian fans will know what happened to the weapon after Rebels, but I am interested to see just how Sabine herself has evolved through the years; we don’t even see her wearing her Mandalorian armor anymore.
After her debut appearance in The Mandalorian, the live-action hype for Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka has just slowly been growing. We don’t know where Dave FIloni plans to take the series, but I’m hoping that he manages to come up with some more interesting concepts for the characters as compared to his usual trademark of including references and Easter Eggs that are only meaningful for hardcore Star Wars lore-keepers.
I’m just hopeful we get something that’s a lot closer to Andor as compared to the reference-heavy Book of Boba Fett which completely sidelined its main character for a few episodes in favor of Din Djarin.
Catch Ahsoka when it premieres on Disney+ on Aug. 23.
]]>This was reported by Film Music Reporter, who says that The Book of Boba Fett composer Joseph Shirley will be taking over for Göransson for Mando 3. Despite Shirley being the show’s new composer, Göransson will still be credited for writing the original score, kind of the same way he also got credit for TBOBF.
You have to hand it to Göransson who has come a long way from scoring episodes of Community. After his stellar work on The Mandalorian he’s gone on to score the hugely successful Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Now he’s currently working on Oppenheimer for Christopher Nolan; no wonder he has not time to return for Mando.
Either way, it looks like we’ll be in good hands with Shirley. He already has experience working with themes from Göransson, and he’s even taking over for him for the third Creed movie. Who knows, maybe he’ll surprise us with something, especially with the third season introducing a whole new legion of Mandalorians who will be looking to the wielder of the Darksaber to lead them and reclaim their home planet.
I’ll admit, I’m kind of bummed we have to go back to ‘action-figure-hour’ after the very cerebral Andor from Tony Gilroy, but maybe Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are ready to evolve Mando’s story after two seasons.
Catch The Mandalorian 3 when it premieres on Disney+ on March 1.
]]>Just in, we have a new poster for Mando wielding the Darksaber, and it has him standing on his new starfighter with Grogu in the droid seat. Check it:

With the show focused on the identity of Mando and what it means to be a Mandalorian, the third season promises to have Din facing the people of his culture, and it looks like they will be trying to reclaim Mandalore after it was decimated by the Empire (referred to in canon as The Siege of Mandalore).
Even if we are going to Mandalore with all the other armored Mandalorians and Bo-Katan Kryze, the previews have confirmed that we’re going to be returning to the usual locales, what with Mando running into Greef Karga again, and a possible return to Tatooine.
We’ve also barely returned to Coruscant after the events of Revenge of the Sith, so it would be interesting to see how the former capital of the galaxy has been doing, especially since the story of The Mandalorian takes place after the fall of the Empire.
With some complaining that Andor was too cerebral for its own good, we should expect The Mandalorian to return back to its episodic, adventure-a-week format when it returns. I’m just hoping Boba Fett gets to hijack some episodes since Mando did the same with Boba’s show.
The Mandalorian Season 3 is set to come out on Disney+ on March 1.

Here’s the official description:
When the new season opens, months have passed since the events on Kamino, and the Bad Batch continue their journey navigating the Empire after the fall of the Republic. They will cross paths with friends and foes, both new and familiar, as they take on a variety of thrilling mercenary missions that will take them to unexpected and dangerous new places.
Returning members of the Bad Batch include Omega, Hunter, Tech, Echo, and Wrecker. The last season saw Crosshair betray the group for the Empire, but it looks like they would still be able to talk to him in this season.
We also have a look at some familiar locations like the senate at Coruscant, and fans are sure to recognize the Emperor and Bail Organa. Plus we also have confirmation of 501st deserter Captain Rex.
I’ll admit, after Andor, it’s kind of hard to just jump back into more reference-dependent series like The Bad Batch, but I’m sure the show has its fans. Who knows, maybe the series could give us some hints at other upcoming shows like Ahsoka which is set to come out next year.
The Bad Batch Season 2 starts streaming on Disney+ on Jan. 4, 2023.

We don’t have a look at Dawson in costume, but we do have a cowboy hat on that chair, which means franchise hero Dave Filoni is working on the show.
We don’t know what the series is about and where it’s set in the Star Wars timeline, but we can assume that the events happen around the Original Trilogy era. Although, there could be room for flashbacks, seeing that Hayden Christensen has been confirmed to reprise the role of Anakin Skywalker.
Besides Christensen and Dawson, the series has also cast the likes of Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ray Stevenson, and Ivanna Sakhno. The only other actress with a named character is Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who is playing the character of Sabine Wren from Rebels.
If her Mando appearance is any clue, we know that Ahsoka is in the search for Grand Admiral Thrawn. While it’s likely he would appear in this series, it’s also possible we would get the live-action debut of another Rebels character, Ezra Bridger, who ended up missing in the Rebels finale, and Ahsoka and Sabine set off to find him.
No release date has been set for the Ahsoka series, but Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Disney+ on May 27.
]]>Esquire reports that Luke’s voice in the series was created through an app called Respeecher. Sound editor Matthew Wood describes the process:
“It’s a neural network you feed information into and it learns… So I had archival material from Mark in that era. We had clean recorded ADR from the original films, a book on tape he’d done from those eras, and then also Star Wars radio plays he had done back in that time. I was able to get clean recordings of that, feed it into the system, and they were able to slice it up and feed their neural network to learn this data.”
You have to hand it to the artists, they have managed to greatly improve on how Luke looks, but when it comes to the way he sounds, a lot of things are still off. They haven’t even managed to find a way to make Luke’s mouth move properly, that’s we barely see it in the scenes where he talks to Grogu.
Here’s what people are saying about Luke’s robo-voice online:
Sure, Disney COULD spend like a few hundred bucks on a voice actor who can sound like Luke Skywalker
But why do that when you can spend hundreds of thousands of dollars developing some ghoulish technology that allows a computer to be bad at acting https://t.co/J0Y6IpfDlH

I didn’t realize until now that the Luke Skywalker in the recent Boba Fett episode wasn’t voiced by Mark Hamill despite him being credited.
They digitally recreated his voice from existing recordings, which is why it sounded so off.https://t.co/ZvCqEtlHaI

Personally, I prefer the Han Solo route of recasting these characters, because they’ve become so much more than the actors that have originated them. While it’s great that CG-Luke was done with archived Hamill footage, the performance was just so wooden it was very odd to watch.
For now, The Book of Boba Fett is gearing up for its finale this Wednesday on Disney+.
