Just in, we have an official announcement for Lanterns from Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen), and comic writer Tom King. Check this out:

According to Deadline, the show will focus on new Green Lantern recruit John Stewart as he is partnered up with the more seasoned Lantern Hal Jordan. Together, the two intergalactic cops will be drawn to a “dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
Though Zack Snyder was never allowed to fully establish his new Green Lantern for the DCEU, it’s said that this Lanterns series will be incorporated into the new DC that James Gunn is going to establish with Superman next year.
The series was said to have undergone several changes in tone, and was at one point supposed to focus on more obscure Lanterns like Guy Gardner and Alan Scott; but now it looks like the show is going to focus on two of the most popular incarnations of the character.
So far, no cast has been announced for the series, but it would be great if they could establish a new Green Lantern Corps. as well as the existence of the other Lanterns in the spectrum. Personally, I was hoping for a big-budget film, but we’ll have to wait and see how the TV series is received.
No release date has been set for Lanterns, but we should expect a premiere on Max sometime in the next few years.
]]>As revealed in Star Wars Celebration last weekend (via Polygon), Daisy Ridley will be returning as Rey Skywalker in a film set after the events of TROS. We don’t have any specific details when it comes to the story, but it’s said that Rey, like Luke before her, is going to attempt to revive the Jedi Order—but maybe she could be introducing a few changes this time.
Originally, the movie was meant to be written by Damon Lindelof (Watchmen) and Justin Britt-Gibson, but the two had reportedly left the project a few months back. Instead, the script will now be provided by Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight. The director, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, was the original choice to helm, and is still attached to the film despite the writer shake-up.
With Daisy Ridley onboard, fans are already asking who else could be coming back for the film. It feels like John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Kelly Marie Tran should return, but I’m kind of on the fence about bringing back Adam Driver as Ben Solo; I mean, does he even want to come back to Star Wars?
Obaid-Chinoy’s Star Wars movie is said to be one of three that are being planned to release theatrically. Hopefully we get more reveals soon, but for now, we’ll just have to wait.
No release date has been announced for the next Star Wars film starring Ridley.
]]>According to Deadline, Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, as taken over the screenwriter role that originally belonged to Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. Despite the original writers having left the project, the film will still be directed by the original helmer chosen, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
While Star Wars has been producing TV series left and right with shows like Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and The Book of Boba Fett, the franchise has been in a creative rut when it comes to box office films, with several creatives having come and gone with Patty Jenkins, James Mangold, and now Damon Lindelof.
We don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes of Star Wars, but we can imagine that the franchise is being overprotective with its brand—especially when you consider the fanbase that follows it. Bad films could mean decades of scrutiny online; I mean, even the good films get the same treatment.
Ever since The Rise of Skywalker, it feels like SW has started shifting to a nostalgia-pandering model, but I am hopeful that we’ll eventually get out of this ‘dark era’ and move on to some more creatively enriching projects. Andor felt like a good sign, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
No release date has been set for the next theatrically released Star Wars film.
]]>Above the Line reports that Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson had submitted their draft for a script last February, but they soon left the project days after. We don’t know exactly what prompted the exit, but they believe that Lindelof’s quote from /Film hints at what happened:
“I will just say, that for reasons that I can’t get into on this Sunday morning, on this day, the degree of difficulty is extremely, extremely, extremely high… If it can’t be great, it shouldn’t exist. That’s all I’ll say, because I have the same association with it as you do, which is, it’s the first movie I saw sitting in my dad’s lap, four years old, May of ’77. I think it’s possible that sometimes when you hold something in such high reverence and esteem, you start to get in the kitchen and you just go, ‘Maybe I shouldn’t be cooking. Maybe I should just be eating.’ We’ll just leave it at that.”
If it’s any consolation, Lindelof’s exit has not been officially announced, so he could still be attached in some way. It’s also said that the original choice for director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, is still attached to helm the film.
We don’t have much details on what the movie was going to be about, but it has been said that the story would take place after the Sequel Trilogy. With properties like The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and The Book of Boba Fett taking place in the OT era, I was really hopeful that we got an update on Rey Skywalker and her friends.
Hopefully Lucasfilm updates us on the project later this year at Star Wars Celebration. Watch out for SWCC 2023 when it takes place from April 7-10.
]]>Check out the trailer for Mrs. Davis:
Here’s the synopsis:
“Mrs. Davis” is the world’s most powerful Artificial Intelligence. Simone is the nun devoted to destroying Her. Who ya got?
The series comes from Tara Hernandez who had worked on The Big Bang Theory as well as Damon Lindelof, the writer behind HBO’s Watchmen and Lost. The idea for Mrs. Davis was apparently conceived mid-pandemic by LIndelof and Hernandez, with them wondering if there was an app that could just tell them how to deal with problems.
While the evil AI story has been done over and over again, Lindelof says that Mrs. Davis is different in that it’s designed as a benevolent AI—but that could still be problematic. He explains to THR:
“Instead of the AI wiping out humanity, what would that look like?… To us, that felt like the more potentially comedic and interesting way of looking at the God question, which is: What do people turn to God for? How does God make people feel? The thing about AI is it takes away the best part of God’s branding, which is mystery.”
With the current image of the Catholic church, it’s definitely odd that a nun would be a hero of the series, but Gilpin is a massive talent, and I can’t wait to see how she takes on this role.
Mrs. Davis premieres on Peacock on April 20.
]]>According to Deadline, Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has been hired to helm the Star Wars project that Lindelof had been developing for Lucasfilm. The movie is still in its very early stages, but it’s said that Obaid-Chinoy was brought in early on so that she could add her input during pre-production.
It’s no mystery that Damon Lindelof is probably one of the most celebrated TV figures today, with projects like The Leftovers and Watchmen under his belt. We don’t know what he would want to bring into Star Wars, but I’m pretty much game for what he has to deliver.
A lot of fans had doubts about his upcoming Watchmen series, but when the show came out, a lot of fans celebrated how it embraced the core themes of the original source material without relying too heavily on cheap nostalgia-baiting.
Hopefully with Lindelof’s show, we get something that is more intent on exploring the themes of rebellion versus oppression. I mean, fans love Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, but their Disney+ Star Wars kind of depend too heavily on easter eggs and familiar characters that just get credit for showing up. It’s kind of odd that Andor is as good as it is.
No release date has been set for Damon Lindelof’s Star Wars project. You can check out Ms. Marvel now streaming on Disney+.

Talking to Vulture’s Into It podcast, Lindelof laments on the state of Marvel media, and he says, “I wish they made less because it would make each one that came out a little bit more special. But I watch all of them. … People don’t want things to end. I do.”
Even though Lindelof does say that he wants less Marvel material, he is sympathetic to Marvel’s situation. He continues:
It’s always going to be hard because once you’ve got someone’s attention, you want to keep it. And so the idea of letting it go and not knowing if you’re ever going to get it back again is sort of like it’s antithetical to the way that we’re wired.
From a slightly sort of more cynical standpoint, this is a business. It’s an industry. And if you make a couple of great Marvel movies, the instinct is, ‘We need to make more Marvel movies, and we need to expand this.’
Admittedly there has been discussion about franchise fatigue and how more prevalent it is, seeing that we’re getting three Marvel movies a year with several series inbetween. Though it’s great we are getting some more obscure characters in the spotlight, you can’t help but feel a little desensitized whenever a new Marvel thing comes.
We don’t know if Marvel is aware of this issue, but for now, the wheels are just continuing to churn at the studio with no signs of slowing down.
In the meantime, watch out for Marvel’s next property She-Hulk: Attorney at Law which premieres on Disney+ on Aug. 17.
]]>According to The Ankler, Lindelof is currently working on a Star Wars movie for Lucasfilm. Since it’s a rumor, we don’t have any official details, but Lindelof has said before that he would be interested in working on Star Wars under one specific condition.
He told Fandom:
“… at some point, but certainly not in the immediate future, I feel like I would love to do something in the Star Wars universe… Maybe a decade from now when I would no longer be blamed for ruining it. That would be a hoot.”
Granted, there may never be a time where there are fans who didn’t think that Star Wars was ruined. They were everywhere when the prequels came out, and they’re certainly still present with the release of the Sequel Trilogy and Disney+ shows.
Seeing how Lindelof handled Watchmen, I would definitely love for him to try his hand on Star Wars. While we have a lot of the fanservice shows like The Book of Boba Fett and the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi, I would love to have a movie that really gets into the core themes of Star Wars and is not just full of lore and things for people to recognize—like The Last Jedi.
We don’t know if Lindelof is working on a Star Wars movie officially, but fans are gearing up for the release of Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+ this May 25.
