We haven’t had a director attached for a while, but DC may have just found someone.

Deadline reports that Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya) is currently in talks to helm the story of Kara Zor-El for DC Studios. We don’t know much about the story yet, but the production is said to start after James Gunn wraps on Superman which is currently filming.

With Superman having his boy scout image, everyone is kind of expecting Supergirl to have a more punk vibe—which is why Gillespie seems like the perfect match. After all, he’s directed films centered on women with not-so-clean personas.

Add to that he’s already worked with another DC star in the form of Margot Robbie a.k.a. DC’s original live-action Harley Quinn.

It’s unclear what kind of direction this new Supergirl can go, since the character has barely appeared in the big screen. The closest we have to a modern take is The CW series with Melissa Benoist, but even that has its own brand of camp which comes with the brand.

Hopefully Alcock’s new Supergirl will manage to be her own thing, and she can stand toe-to-toe with David Corenswet’s Man of Steel.

No release date has been set for Supergirl, but you can expect Kara to appear in Superman which hits theatres on July 11, 2025.

Pam & Tommy Teaser Tells the Story of the First Celebrity Sex Tape Leak https://www.geekfeed.com/pam-tommy-teaser-tells-the-story-of-the-first-celebrity-sex-tape-leak/ Fri, 19 Nov 2021 17:19:26 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=62520 While celebrity sex tapes and leaks are dime a dozen these days, the most infamous leaked sex tape belongs to celebrities Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee. The story of the leak is so crazy that Hulu has decided to make a series telling that story, and now we have the first trailer for Pam & Tommy starring Lily James as Pamela Anderson and Sebastian Stan as Tommy Lee.

Watch the trailer for Pammy & Tommy here:

Though Anderson and Lee are at the center of the scandal, the story wouldn’t have been possible without the disgruntled electrician who had stolen the tape, Rand Gauthier (played by Seth Rogen). The story goes that, after Lee and Anderson had fired Rand from working on their house, Rand, disguised as their dog, successfully stole their safe; expecting it to be filled with guns and jewelry, but also finding the tape.

It just gets crazier from that point, with the tape getting peddled online, to the video playing on loop on one website. You can read about it here, but if you don’t want to be spoiled, I guess you can just wait for the premiere next year.

Besides the star-studded leads, the series also includes Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) and Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black). The series is also directed by Craig Gillespie, who had directed another celebrity biopic with a crazy story—I, Tonya. He’s also the same person who helmed Disney’s hit villain movie, Cruella.

Pam & Tommy premiere on Hulu on Feb. 2, 2022.

Cruella 2 Already in Development at Disney https://www.geekfeed.com/cruella-2-already-in-development-at-disney/ Mon, 07 Jun 2021 14:18:11 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=59844 Though the movie was initially plagued with negative reviews, the general consensus of Disney’s live-action Cruella seems to point out that the film has been a big success. Now news has it that Disney has now started development on a sequel.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has already greenlit the sequel of Cruella, and director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Tony McNamara are expected to make a return. Wi don’t have any official details on the plot yet, but seeing as Cruella’s origin has been pretty much told, we should expect a full-on remake of 101 Dalmatians with Emma Stone’s Cruella de Vil as the main antagonist.

A Disney spokesperson said about the movie:

“We are very pleased with Cruella’s box office success, in conjunction with its strong Disney+ Premiere Access performance to date… The film has been incredibly well received by audiences around the world, with a 97% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes in addition to A’s in every demographic from CinemaScore on opening weekend, ranking it among the most popular of our live-action reimaginings. We look forward to a long run as audiences continue to enjoy this fantastic film.”

Though the story of Cruella admittedly has its weak spots, the film has managed to shine thanks to Oscar-winning costume designer Jenny Beavan. With Cruella’s passion for fashion, the film had managed to come off as some child-friendly version of The Devil Wears Prada and Joker. Not to mention, the film has managed to have fun with other characters, like Cruella’s bumbling henchmen Horace and Jasper.

While the film has been able to give us Cruella’s side of the story, I hope she goes full-on villain in the next film. With a lot of people not being pleased with the direction Maleficent went with the classic Disney villain, it would be fine if we can just have another 101 Dalmatians film without trying to justify Cruella’s motives.

Then again, whatever spin they decide to put on it, as long as it’s interesting, I’ll be willing to watch.

For now, catch Cruella now in theaters and on Disney+.

Rose Byrne Stars in the 80s-Tastic Trailer for Physical https://www.geekfeed.com/rose-byrne-stars-in-the-80s-tastic-trailer-for-physical/ Wed, 05 May 2021 04:11:10 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=59375 Netflix may have cancelled GLOW, and while fans are waiting for it to be brought back, Apple TV has presented them with an 80s feminism fix called Physical starring Rose Byrne.

Check out the trailer for Physical down here:

Here’s the official description:

Sheila Rubin (Rose Byrne) is a quietly tormented housewife in ’80s San Diego, who behind closed door battles extreme personal demons and a vicious inner voice. But things change when she discovers aerobics, sparking a journey toward empowerment and success.

The series comes from Almost Family creator Annie Weisman and will also have episodes directed by I, Tonya helmer Craig Gillespie. Other stars of the series include Rory Scovel, Della Saba, Lou Taylor Pucci, Dierdre Friel, and Ashley Liao.

With aerobics being one of the defining elements of the 80s, it’s going to be interesting to see how Physical approaches the subject matter. While it may seem like an old exercise fad today, I’m eager to watch this character of Sheila Rubin find some kind of meaning or enlightenment by wearing spandex, having huge hair, and dance/exercising to 80s jams.

Admittedly, I do miss Netflix’s GLOW, and a lot of fans online are trying to get the network to reconsider their cancellation, or at least turn Season 4 into a film. We haven’t gotten any updates on Netflix’s part, but while we wait, hopefully Physical will be something to satiate that itch for 80s feminism.

Catch Physical when it debuts on Apple TV on June 18.
