Fraud. Fugitives.

Watch the Bed Vegan trailer here:

A scandalous four-part documentary series that uncovers how Sarma Melngailis, the celebrity restaurateur behind the New York hotspot Pure Food and Wine, went from being the queen of vegan cuisine to the tabloid-touted “Vegan Fugitive” when she falls for a man who promises to make her dreams come true. Millions of dollars, immortal dogs, meat suits, and secrets lead to a twisted tale of love turned criminal.

Admittedly the team behind Tiger King has always managed to find interesting (and downright batshit crazy) stories to make documentaries about, and they have always find a way to slowly unravel the events so that things just get crazier and crazier.

I’ll admit, I want to do more of my research on Sarma Melngailis now, but there no way that my own researching is going to be as entertaining and riveting as Smith’s way of telling the story.

Hopefully Netflix gives us a more extensive preview before the release next month, but as it stands, there’s already a lot to be curious about from the concept of canine immortality to whatever a ‘meat suit’ is.

Bad Vegan: Fame. Fraud. Fugitive. comes to Netflix on March 16.
