Though Zoe Saldana essentially owns the role of Gamora, the part was actually offered first to Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia), but she turned the role down because she said she ‘didn’t want to be in Marvel’s first bomb.’
In a recent interview with Happy Sad Confused, Seyfried admitted that she passed on the role because she didn’t want to spend too much time on the make-up chair–plus she thought the movie wasn’t going to be a hit. She explains:
“I was really scared of the idea of being stuck and painted a different color because of the amount of time that the X-Men people had been [on the makeup chair].”
There was also the case that Seyfried didn’t think the movie was going to be a success either. She continued, “I definitely got the offer for it, and I definitely milled over it for a couple of days, but I didn’t want to live in London for six months out of the year… Let’s also remember, being part of a Marvel movie—the first Marvel movie that bombs ain’t good for your career. I thought that because this was about a talking tree and a talking raccoon that it was gonna be Marvel’s first bomb and that Chris Pratt and I would never work again. I was wrong. I was just being smart, not brave… I was way too scared.”
For now, Seyfried is still out of the Marvel Studios bubble, but with more properties getting adapted, it may only be a matter of time before she eventually joins the fray.
As for the Gamora character, it looks like she’s been officially retired from the MCU, but there are still plans for the Guardians to return (as well as a possible Star-Lord spinoff). Hopefully Marvel finds someone else to take it over.
Personally, I think ex-Ant-Man director Edgar Wright would be a great choice for a new Guardians team, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
The next Marvel Studios film, Thunderbolts* is set to release on May 2.
]]>Jurassic World Rebirth is expected to hit theaters this July, and the first trailer for the film has been dropped. Check this out:
Here’s the official description for the movie:
Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.
Academy Award® nominee Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure the genetic material. When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on a forbidden island that had once housed an undisclosed research facility for Jurassic Park. There, in a terrain populated by dinosaurs of vastly different species, they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that has been hidden from the world for decades.
Admittedly, the last Jurassic World film Dominion wasn’t considered a critical hit, but overall the movies have been considered box office earners, so it would make sense that Universal would want to keep this ball rolling.
With Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard out of the picture though, it looks like the new leads are going to be ScarJo and Jonathan Bailey—who plays a scientist who wants to collect the dino samples for ‘the future of humanity’.
With Rogue One director Gareth Edward at the helm, I’m excited to see what kind of spectacle Rebirth is going to bring to screen. As long as the kids love it, I don’t really have a high bar for these Jurassic films.
Watch out for Jurassic World Rebirth when it comes to cinemas on July 2.
]]>The movie is set to release in March, and thanks to Netflix, we have a short sneak peek featuring Chris Pratt, Millie Bobby Brown, and a giant robot voiced by Anthony Mackie. Check this out:
While there are retro-futuristic properties that like to imagine a different kind of future, The Electric State is different in that it imagines a robot apocalypse that takes place around the 90s. Oddly enough, all the robots look like they were designed in the 20s with their Steamboat Willy-esque designs.
It’s also worth noting that the Russos have managed to amass quite the number of stars for the movie. Besides Pratt and Brown, the movie also includes he talents of Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Woody Norman, Stanley Tucci, and Giancarlo Esposito. Joining the film in voice roles are also Mackie, Woody Harrelson, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Jank Azaria, Colman Domingo, and Alan Tudyk.
Admittedly, the Russos haven’t managed to find a hit film after Avengers: Endgame, but I’m hoping they find some kind of success before things start cooking over at Marvel Studios for Avengers: Doomsday.
Set in a retro-futuristic past, this blockbuster adventure from filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo follows Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown), an orphaned teenager who traverses the American West in search of her younger brother. Joining her on the journey is a sweet but mysterious robot and an eccentric drifter (Chris Pratt).
Watch out for The Electric State when it comes out March 14.
]]>The film has two huge stars at the helm with Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown, and we just got a new teaser. Check this out:
The official description of the film reads:
Set in a retro-futuristic past, this blockbuster adventure from filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo follows Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown), an orphaned teenager who traverses the American West in search of her younger brother. Joining her on the journey is a sweet but mysterious robot and an eccentric drifter (Chris Pratt).
Besides Pratt and Brown, the movie has also managed to gather an impressive roster of cast members which include Jason Alexander, Stanley Tucci, Ke Huy Quan, and Giancarlo Esposito. There are even voice cameos from the likes of Anthony Mackie, Woody Harrelson, Alan Tudyk, Jenny Slate, and Hank Azaria (to name a few),
I’ll admit, the Russos haven’t had a hit since Avengers: Endgame, and this return for Doomsday seems like them just going back to what feels safe. After this trailer though, I have to admit the concept is pretty neat, and Brown and Pratt are solid actors—so Electric State has a lot of great things going for it.
I just hope that Netflix allows for a theatrical release sometime next year, because this honestly looks like it deserves a theatrical experience.
Catch The Electric State when it comes to Netflix on March 14, 2025.
]]>The movie is set to come out in March, and Netflix has just dropped a first teaser. Check this out:
Here’s the official description:
Set in the aftermath of a robot uprising in an alternate version of the ’90s, The Electric State follows an orphaned teenager who ventures across the American West with a cartoon-inspired robot, a smuggler, and his sidekick in search of her younger brother.
Besides Brown and Pratt, the film has managed to amass a number of stars with the likes of Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, Jason Alexander, Jenny Slate, and Giancarlo Esposito.
Though the Russos were at the helm for one of the most successful movies of all time, a lot of people have been saying that they haven’t managed to find a hit after Avengers: Endgame. With their non-MCU projects not really making any waves, some think that Doomsday was kind of a Hail Mary for the directing duo—as well as Robert Downey Jr.
If anything, Electric State does have the premise of what could be a successful action-adventure movie, but time will tell if it’s going to be a hit. Sure, the imagery of robots that look like old-timey cartoons is unique, but the movie still looks as drab and grey as any other MCU flick.
Is it too late to color-correct the film?
Watch out for The Electric State when it comes to Netflix on March 14, 2025.

Just in case the tweet doesn’t load, the movie will be called Jurassic World Rebirth and it will be hitting theatres on July 2025. Here are also some official stills with new leads Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali.

Though Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard won’t be making a return, the movie is still pretty much set in the same continuity as the rest of the Jurassic World films. The official synopsis (via Empire) reads:
“Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.
“Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure genetic material from the world’s three most massive dinosaurs. With Rogue One, Godzilla, and The Creator director Gareth Edwards at the helm, fans are expecting this Jurassic World movie to have a very interesting sense of scale. With Creator also pushing the boundary for CG, it’s going to be interesting to see just what kinds of visuals Edwards and his team can come up with when it comes to Rebirth.
I’m just hoping that screenwriter David Koepp has a great story for Rebirth. Edwards has never been strong when it comes to narrative, but at least with him at the helm, we know we’re going to be in for one hell of a visual feast.
Fingers crossed we don’t have to wait too long for the trailer.
Jurassic World Rebirth is set to hit theatres on July 2025.
]]>According to The InSneider, Johansson is currently being offered the leading part of the next Jurassic World movie which will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story). Should Johansson be cast, she would be following the footsteps of another Marvel star, Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) who was the male lead of the last three Jurassic films. I guess Bryce Dallas Howard was also in a Spider-Man film at one point, but that was way before the MCU was even a thing.
No official story has been revealed for the next Jurassic World movie, but it is expected to take place around the same continuity as the rest of the Jurassic films. So we should expect dinosaurs to have been roaming the earth again for a while. The story could possibly go several ways, but hopefully they have an interesting new entrypoint to tackle the narrative if they’re going to launch a new trilogy.
Personally, I thought that the Jurassic World films were fine. It was odd that Dominion focused mostly on these weird super-locusts, but I thought the idea of having the dinosaurs escape the park and once again make their place on the planet was a pretty inspired decision. I guess I was just hoping to see more of how the humans were going to be dealing with T-rexs just walking around.
The next Jurassic World movie is aiming for a release on July 2, 2025.
]]>The Garfield Movie is set to come out this Memorial Day weekend, and we have a new trailer featuring Pratt’s Garfield as well as a new character in the form of Vic—Garfield’s rough and tumble street cat dad (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson).
Check out the latest trailer:
Garfield (voiced by Chris Pratt), the world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat, is about to have a wild outdoor adventure! After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father – scruffy street cat Vic (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson) – Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered life into joining Vic in a hilarious, high-stakes heist.
The last big cinematic attempts with Garfield were back in the ‘00s with Bill Murray voicing the cat for a live-action film, but now Sony is embracing the original comic format and delivering a wholly animated movie.
A lot of fans have been able to point out certain gags that originated in the comics, but it’s going to be interesting to see just how they’ll tackle Garfield’s arc of learning how to be a street cat, despite being famously a lazy house cat who loves Italian food and hates Mondays even if he doesn’t have a job.
The Garfield Movie comes to cinemas on the Memorial Day Weekend.
]]>Here’s the post from the official Jurassic World twitter:
— Jurassic World (@JurassicWorld) February 6, 2024
So far, the post didn’t come with any teasers as to what to expect with this film, but it is said that the movie will be focusing on a whole new cast of characters this time around; so don’t hold your breath for Chris Pratt or Bryce Dallas Howard to make a return.
Despite the movies being critically panned when they came out, the Jurassic World movies still managed to make a lot of bank in the box office; so it won’t be any surprise that Universal would want to make more of these films.
With Dominion, the dinosaurs pretty much are established as part of the world once more, and humans will just have to embrace the possibility of forests that could have a roaming T-rex or a mosasaurus suddenly appearing on a beach somewhere.
I can’t speculate much about where the story could go, but I would imagine that the world would have to change to be able to accommodate for the sudden existence of all these giant animals that can tear through houses and vehicles like nothing.
Fingers crossed we get a teaser before the year ends.
The next Jurassic World movie comes out July 2, 2025.
]]>Though it did seem that we wouldn’t be getting any more Jurassic movies, THR is reporting that a new Jurassic World film is in the works, and the movie has been in such deep development that Universal is said to be looking for a release sometime in 2025.
So far, no director has been announced to be taking the helm for the film, but David Koepp, who was the writer of the original Jurassic Park, is said to be coming back to tackle a whole new story which is said to be taking place in a ‘new era’ of the franchise.
Producer Frank Marshall, who had also overseen the Jurassic World trilogy, is also coming back to produce this film, and Steven Spielberg himself is also attached as an executive producer via Amblin Entertainment.
By the end of Dominion, we saw that the dinosaurs had been freed from the park and he humans just ended up co-existing with them (despite how dangerous some of the dinosaurs are). We should expect the continuity to further explore a world with dinosaurs, but I’m interested to see how Koepp would approach the story because ancient locusts are kind of a boring villain for a dinosaur film.
No release date has been set for the next Jurassic World, but the studio is said to be eyeing a 2025 release.
]]>Check out the first trailer for The Garfield Movie:
Here’s the official description for the film:

After an unexpected reunion with his long-lost father – scruffy street cat Vic (voiced by Samuel L. Besides Pratt and Jackson, the film’s cast also includes Nicholas Hoult (The Great), Harvey Guillen (Puss in Boots: The Last Wish) and Ted Lasso stars Hannah Waddingham and Brett Goldstein.
By the time this film comes out, it would have been 20 years since the last Garfield movie released. Back in 2004, there was an attempt to bring Garfield to live action with Bill Murray voicing the lazy cat. The film was successful enough to earn a sequel, but it never quite got the same kind of hold on pop-culture that Alvin and the Chipmunks or The Smurfs did when those movies came out.
With the success of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and Across the Spider-Verse, maybe Garfield can find new legs with an animated reboot.

]]>Here’s the announcement from Nintendo:
We have a message for fans of the Mushroom Kingdom. Please take a look. pic.twitter.com/U1ASicOuTO
— Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) August 21, 2023
Though Martinet won’t be voicing Mario anymore, the company does say that he’s being kept on as a ‘Mario Ambassador’ and that he will ‘continue to travel the world sharing the joy of Mario and interacting with you all!’
It may be a matter of time that Martinet would finally retire from voicing Mario, but one can’t help but think that this has something to do with The Super Mario Bros. Movie giving Mario a different voice (specifically Chris Pratt’s voice), and not making him as cartoon-y as Martinet’s signature performance.
If anything, Mario has kind of outgrown the cartoonish ‘wahoo!’ persona based on how he’s evolved in the games, and it’s possible that Nintendo just wants to pivot to a more serious Mario that could be the protagonist of his own kid-friendly platformers—like Sonic the Hedgehog.
As for Martinet, I’m sure he still has more things to do with Mario, even if he won’t be providing the voice anymore. One thing’s for sure, fans still love him, and would still want to know what he has to say about the character in the future.
The next Super Mario game, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, is set to release for the Nintendo Switch on Oct. 20.
]]>Talking to Gizmodo, Gunn was asked about how the Avengers films affected the Guardians trilogy, and he replied that it was tough to write around Thanos killing Gamora. Gunn explains:
“[One major] thing was Gamora dying. But I was a big part of that choice so that was easier and I actually think it makes the movie much better. It’s much more interesting. At one point, Gamora almost died in Volume 2. And so I was really happy to work with that in a unique way and work with kind of what Quill’s damage is.”
He doesn’t go into detail about how Gamora was supposed to die, but with Yondu sacrificing himself in that film, I guess having Gamora die would have been too much for a character like Quill to move on from—especially with the events of Infinity War about to take place.
If you ask me, Gunn actually deals with Gamora’s death pretty well in Vol. 3, and it allows for an interesting dynamic not just with Quill, but with Nebula as well.
Still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill must rally his team to defend the universe and protect one of their own. If the mission is not completely successful, it could possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.
Catch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 when it hits cinemas on May 5.
]]>Talking to GamesRadar, Chris Pratt talks a bit about the story of these Guardians ending, and how the franchise can continue without Gunn at the helm. He says:
“It would be strange to continue Peter’s story without James… He’s done such a masterful job in the first three films. We really found the voice of Peter Quill together and without him, obviously, I would never have had this opportunity… to continue to tell the story, it would really be important to honor what he’s done in the first three films and to honor what the fans have grown to love about the character and not simply do it because people might show up to pay for it, you know?”
I’m not going to spoil anything about the film, but Vol. 3 definitely ends with the idea that the Guardians—or at least, a version of them—could come back in the future. Even with Gunn out, I think it’s very possible for someone else to have their own spin on this branch of the MCU; kind of like how Star Wars has multiple directors.
If you ask me, they should definitely bring back Edgar Wright. Wright had left Ant-Man way back in the 2010s due to creative differences, but I can imagine him delivering a fun ensemble space adventure without the pressure that comes with an IP like Star Wars. Besides, his penchant for putting together great movie soundtracks (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Baby Driver, Last Night in Soho) could definitely work for a new Awesome Mix.
I’m just putting it out there.
Catch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 when it hits theaters on May 5.
]]>Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn says, “They did some things that I wouldn’t have wanted,” specifically pointing out the scene where Star-Lord hesitates to kill Gamora and him punching out Thanos when he was held down, ultimately resulting in the team failing to remove the Infinity Gauntlet from him.
In the movie’s defense, Quill still tried to kill Gamora, but it really was his outburst that led to Thanos’ win on Titan. Admittedly, a lot of people have been using this scene to justify why Star-Lord is the worst, but I imagine any one of the characters would have been the most hated if the writers made it their fault. I guess it was ultimately Peter had that the most at stake when it came to the loss of Gamora.
We don’t know what else was changed with the Guardians Vol. 3 script after Gunn was fired and re-hired, but I imagine he was still planning to have Rocket’s story come full circle. I’m sure everyone is curious what the movie would have looked like if Gunn was always onboard, but if he wasn’t fired, I imagine he would never have been hired to co-lead DC Studios for WB.
For now, watch out for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 which comes to theaters on May 5.
]]>Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Chris Pratt and Charlie Day (Luigi) talk about how they eventually settled with the voices we got from the film. Day explains, “We tried different things, different voices… Every now and then they would say, ‘Charlie, maybe a little less Goodfellas in this one’ — I’m like, ‘Alright! I think you’re wrong, but fine!’ — until they landed on something they liked.” Pratt also adds, “For a minute, I walked in and they were like, ‘That’s a little New Jersey. You’re doing a Tony Soprano thing.'”
Though Mario only talks with a slight Brooklyn accent in the film, the movie actually takes time to explain his cartoonish voice, with Mario using it for their plumber ad. Even then we also get some more Mario catchphrases from Pratt in the film like him saying, “Let’s a-go!” and his “Wahoo!” on the Rainbow Road.
While the story could definitely use some brushing up, you have to commend The Super Mario Bros. Movie for actually embracing the game, and adding as much elements of it as they could from floating bricks to power-ups. We don’t know where a sequel could go yet, but we did get a Yoshi tease, and Peach did mention an entire ‘Galaxy’ (as in Super Mario Galaxy) to explore.
Catch The Super Mario Bros. Movie now tearing it up in theaters.

While heroes still manage to show up in the MCU after their solo film trilogies have concluded (e.g., Iron Man, Captain America), it’s said that this third Guardians movie is going to be the last time we see this iteration of the characters together. Though we could see a new team of Guardians in the future, they won’t be comprised of Drax, Star-Lord, Gamora, Nebula, Rocket, Groot, and Mantis.
I was actually half-expecting the featurette to talk about Gunn’s temporary firing. He was set to make this movie earlier, but after he was fired when a series of poor-taste tweets surfaced, the GOTG Vol. 3 was effectively delayed. We don’t know how much of the story was changed, but I think the explorations of Rocket’s origin as an experiment of the High Evolutionary was always going to be part of the story. I’m not so sure about ‘new Gamora’ who is a result of a plot point from Avengers: Infinity War.
Either way, I’ve been a huge fan of the Guardians since the first movie, and I’m pretty happy Gunn got to come back and complete his story. Catch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 when it comes to cinemas on May 5.
]]>As per the official announcement, the Super Mario movie has been pushed up by two days, and has been moved from its release on April 7 to April 5. Check this out:
Wahoo! The #SuperMarioMovie is moving from April 7 to April 5 in the US and in more than 60 markets around the world. The movie hits theaters in additional markets in April and May, with Japan opening April 28. pic.twitter.com/CjlikfC3cu
— The Super Mario Bros. Movie (@supermariomovie) February 28, 2023
We don’t have any specific reasons as to why the film was pushed forward, but I can imagine that this could come as a relief for some die-hard fans who want to watch the movie on the first day. Maybe the cinema won’t be as crowded on Wednesday as compared to the crowds that could be expected on a weekend premiere. Then again, I’m just guessing.
So far, it seems that this movie has been showing fans exactly what they want to see out of a Mario movie. The characters are colorful, and the Mushroom Kingdom looks to be magical and vibrant; not to mention there’s all kinds of easter eggs that come from decades of Super Mario games.
Admittedly, the marketing is still being very sparing of Chris Pratt’s Mario voice. There was immense backlash online when it was announced that Charles Marinet won’t be providing the voice like he has in the games, but I think Pratt will do a good job making Mario more of an everyman character.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is now set to release on April 5.
]]>Check this:
Here’s the film’s description:
Still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill rallies his team to defend the universe and one of their own – a mission that could mean the end of the Guardians if not successful.
The trailer basically expands on all the scenes we saw from the previous trailer, with more Adam Warlock as well as the main antagonist of the movie, the High Evolutionary. We also get some exchange between Quill and this variant of Gamora, and I have to admit I was surprised that the movie will be teasing a romance between Star-Lord and Nebula.
Though the Guardians franchise has always been more about action-comedy, it looks like the trailer is going to be delving into some very dark places for the characters, especially Rocket Raccoon. With Rocket mostly lashing out throughout the series, it’s going to be interesting to see him face-to-face with the cause of all his trauma.
With this movie set to end the story of this iteration of the Guardians, I’m excited for the film to set-up another group to take on the mantle. I have a feeling that Will Poulter’s Adam is going to be the leader, but maybe some old faces can still return—like Mantis or Groot.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to release in cinemas on May 5.
]]>Check it:
As some fans online have pointed out, the voice of the woman in the ad is actually provided by Jeannie Elias, the original Princess Peach (or Princess Toadstool) in the Super Mario Bros. Super Show.
Another crazy detail that fans spotted in the trailer is that you can actually see the color of the green screen on Mario and Luigi presumably from when they were shooting the sequence:
You can see the green screen oh my fucking god pic.twitter.com/C1BlLU7MAr
— No Context Super Mario (@SuperMarioOOC81) February 12, 2023
Besides that, you can see that a lot of the original character designs from the games were used for Mario and Luigi’s plumbing service, and we also have a hint at the iconic Super Mario theme, which was also played during the scene where Mario is introduced to the Mushroom Kingdom.
Though a lot of people were originally apprehensive to the casting of Chris Pratt as Mario, it looks like the film is going to be one great animated action adventure. Besides the fact that a lot of the film looks great, we also have a lot of Easter Eggs pointing back to the original game, from boss levels to all kinds of other Super Mario charactrs. They even found a way to work Donkey Kong into the film.
