With the recent release of Rebel Ridge on Netflix, a lot of eyes are now pointed at actor Aaron Pierre, and a lot of people think he would make for a perfect Green Lantern. Fancasts of Pierre as Stewart have been making the rounds online and gathering thousands of likes.

You’ll also notice that the fancast has Chris Pine as Jordan instead of Brolin. Apparently, should Brolin decline the offer to play Hal Jordan, the shortlist is said to include actors like Pine and Timothy Olyphant to take on the part.

Besides Rebel Ridge, Pierre is probably best known for his role as the terrifically named Mid-Sized Sedan in M. Night Shyamalan’s Old which came out back in 2021. He also plays Malcolm X in the docudrama Genius from National Geographic.

I’ll have to admit though, with Brolin expected to play a grumpy old Lantern, it’s probably a given for his John Stewart to be more of a hotshot youngster—and Pierre has mostly just played serious characters. Then again, when it comes to his comic characterization Stewart was always pretty serious since he served in the Marine Corps. If the series is going for a comic-accurate Stewart, Pierre could be a great choice.

No release date has been set for the Lanterns series, but you can catch Pierre in Rebel Ridge now showing on Netflix.

Tarantino on His Cancelled Star Trek Movie, “Nothing But Misinformation” https://www.geekfeed.com/tarantino-on-his-cancelled-star-trek-movie/ Wed, 28 Aug 2024 14:16:34 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83991 Modern auteur Quentin Tarantino has always been about original movies, but back in 2019, word was going around that he was going to direct a big-budget Star Trek movie for Paramount.

Of course, the film didn’t manage to push through, and while multiple people had things to say about why it didn’t move forward, Tarantino himself explained that a lot of the rumors coming out about him working on the project were just ‘misinformation.’

Talking to Bill Maher in his podcast (via SFFGazette), Tarantino confirms, “It’s never going to happen… There’s been so much misinformation about what it was going to be – nothing but misinformation. I live in a special zone and part of my zone is because I’m not on Instagram and Facebook, I’m not creating this constant dialogue with the world with what’s going on with my life.

“Consequently, if you’re Joe Schlomoka and you’re some transient reporter of some kind, if you hear Quentin is going to make a Star Trek movie or a make a movie called The Movie Critic, or any f–king thing, it’s a little bit like that guy who wrote the Howard Hughes biography that ended up being a hoax… The thing is, they can say anything.”

We don’t know specifically what happened when word was going around that Tarantino was set to direct a Trek movie, but it was said that he decided to back out on the project because he was considering only having strictly 10 movies under his belt—and he didn’t want the last one to be a franchise that he didn’t even come up with.

Then again, Tarantino himself has said that most of the stuff online concerning him and the Trek movie have been misinformation, so we should take that “10 movies” thing with a grain of salt.

For now, it looks like Paramount is still scrambling with how to approach Trek on the big screen. Multiple creators have come and gone with Star Trek 4, and now CBM is reporting that Toby Haynes (Andor) is set to make a prequel to Trek with Steve Yockey (The Flight Attendant) developing a last movie for the Kelvin Timeline.

No announcement has been made for the next Trek movie that’s expected to hit theatres.

Chris Pine On The Possibility of a Dungeons & Dragons Sequel https://www.geekfeed.com/chris-pine-on-a-dungeons-dragons-sequel/ Mon, 24 Jun 2024 15:42:49 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83026 Chris Pine was a fantastic lead in the Dungeons & Dragons movie, but despite the critical praise, the film didn’t manage to make as much money as it was expected with the budget it had. Fans aren’t expecting a sequel to be made anytime soon, but Pine himself seems to be very positive about a follow-up.

During an appearance at the Superhero Comic-Con (via @AgentsofFandom), Pine said, “I think there’s a really good chance that we’ll make another one… and if they can figure out a financial way to make it work, they’ll do it.”

Though the movie didn’t manage to make a splash at the box office, Honor Among Thieves has been praised for getting the right feel of a Dungeons & Dragons session, with the characters bickering like modern players and completely out-of-field moments happening, attributing them to lucky dice rolls in an actual game.

The game also pays a lot of attention to detail when it comes to Easter Eggs, with the creatures that appear in the film as well as the different locations mentioned.

With Pine’s next Star Trek film having a hard time getting off the ground, we don’t know how long it would take for another D&D movie; but from what we can surmise from Pine, they will probably just need to make the financing work.

If you ask me, they can just tell a contained story that doesn’t need to have world-ending stakes. After all, it was the characters that won the film, and not really the plot. Who even cares about the bald sorceress lady that nobody remembers?

A sequel to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves has not been officially announced.

New Details Revealed for Quentin Tarantino’s Cancelled Star Trek Film https://www.geekfeed.com/quentin-tarantinos-cancelled-star-trek-film/ Tue, 26 Dec 2023 09:24:31 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=80215 Back in 2019, there was buzz going around that director Quentin Tarantino was interested in doing a Star Trek movie with Paramount. A lot of fans got excited at the possibility of Tarantino tackling sci-fi, but nothing every really happened with the project.

We don’t know what direction Trek is going now when it comes to box office movies, but screenwriter Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) reveals a bit about what Tarantino was planning for his Trek and why he decided to walk away from the project.

Talking to Collider, Smith revealed that Tarantino’s Trek would have taken the franchise in a completely mature and different direction—not unlike what Thor: Ragnarok did for Marvel’s Thor films. He explains:

“I think his vision was just to go hard. It was a hard R. It was going to be some ‘Pulp Fiction’ violence… Not a lot of the language, we saved a couple things for just special characters to kind of drop that into the ‘Star Trek’ world, but it was just really the edginess and the kind of that Tarantino flair, man, that he was bringing to it. It would have been cool.”

Smith didn’t really go into specifics, but he also mentioned that Tarantino’s Star Trek would have also harkened to Guardians of the Galaxy on some level.

As to why the film didn’t push forward, it looked like Tarantino got caught up in the notion that he only ever wants to make 10 movies in his filmography—and he didn’t want Trek to be his last one. Smith continues, “”Quentin and I went back and forth, he was gonna do some stuff on it, and then he started worrying about the number, his kind of unofficial number of films… I remember we were talking, and he goes, ‘If I can just wrap my head around the idea that ‘Star Trek’ could be my last movie, the last thing I ever do. Is this how I want to end it?’ And I think that was the bump he could never get across, so the script is still sitting there on his desk.”

As of now, Tarantino’s next film is called The Movie Critic which is said to be another inside look at the entertainment industry through Tarantino’s lens. Though a lot of fans are disappointed that Tarantino didn’t want to pursue Star Trek, you can’t deny that his solid filmography does speak for itself when it comes to Tarantino’s choices of projects.

Who knows, maybe Tarantino will change his mind down the line. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Zachary Quinto Says Status of Star Trek 4 is ‘Complicated’ https://www.geekfeed.com/quinto-says-status-of-star-trek-4-is-complicated/ Mon, 14 Aug 2023 14:02:19 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=78231 Star Trek has been thriving with multiple shows out on television right now, but a lot of fans are still wondering if we’ll ever get an update on the Kelvin Timeline on the big screen. We’ve had multiple reports of the project pushing forward and stopping, and now Zachary Quinto (Spock) has given fans an update.

As per SFFGazette, Quinto said in a recent convention appearance, “I think there’s a lot of other stuff, creative things. It’s complicated… The fact that anything good gets made is kind of a miracle. I think it’s about different people having different agendas and ideas about what it will be.”

We don’t know exactly what kind of movie is coming for the next Trek film, but rumors have been going around from a time travel episode with a returning Chris Hemsworth (as George Kirk) to a Trek film being directed by none other than Quentin Tarantino.

The last Trek movie to release in cinemas was Star Trek Beyond back in 2016, and while it was a solid movie, the film was marketed in an odd way that tried to appeal to a more action-oriented direction, what with Justin Lin (Fast and Furious) at the helm and the teaser using Sabotage from the Beastie Boys.

Anyone who did see the film had nothing but sparkling reviews for it, even saying that it’s the best Trek film to come out of the Kelvin Timeline.

If anything, Quinto does try to be optimistic whatever the fate of the Trek movies will be. He says, I don’t know if and when it will happen. And if coalesces again, and we come back, and we’re able to do it, wonderful. If not, we had a great run.”

No release date has been announced for Star Trek 4.

Final Trailer for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Highlights Critical Praise https://www.geekfeed.com/final-trailer-for-dungeons-dragons-movie/ Sat, 25 Mar 2023 14:32:19 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=75988 The review embargo for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves seems to have been lifted, and there’s been a lot of positive buzz surrounding Paramount’s take on the long-running tabletop franchise.

Just in, we have a final trailer for the movie that shows off all the film’s critical praise. Check this out:

There has been a lot of praise thrown at Chris Pine who seems to be the very backbone of the movie, despite just playing the role of a bard. You also have to love Michelle Rodriguez’s barbarian character who plays off really well with Pine’s party leader.

While fantasy properties like Lord of the Rings like to take the lore very seriously, it looks like the movie is going to be borrowing its tone from the actual game, with friends going on adventures, and luck deciding a lot of the outcomes. I don’t know if we’ll get a fourth-wall break with friends on a table playing dice, but I hope this is a start of a series of D&D adventure films that really flesh out the world.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure.

Watch out for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves when it comes to cinemas on March 31.

The Games Begin in New Clip from Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves https://www.geekfeed.com/new-clip-from-dungeons-dragons-movie/ Tue, 14 Mar 2023 11:09:56 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=74043 The trailers for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves had teased a fighting arena run by Hugh Grant, and with tickets now being available for the film, we have a clip featuring the start of the arena battle and the reveal of a displacer beast.

Check this out:

The clip basically has Grant playing the ‘Grandmaster’ of this arena, and we see that Chris Pine’s party is one of several that have been placed there to participate in the games.

The whole scene is kind of structured like a game, with the multiple other challenges besides the displacer beast. Not only do we have challenges, but the arena also provides perks, like with the chests revealing multiple weapons; but like it was revealed in the trailer, the displacer isn’t the only beast in the arena, and there are some mimics that also take the form of chests.

The film already looks like a whole lot of fun, and while I’m fine if the story isn’t the best thing, I just want the characters to feel like an authentic D&D party. Hopefully we get a set-up for more adventures in the future.

Here’s the official description for Honor Among Thieves:

Meet the Party in New Featurette for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves https://www.geekfeed.com/new-featurette-for-dungeons-dragons-movie/ Thu, 09 Mar 2023 15:01:14 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=73691 One of the core elements of a successful Dungeons & Dragons campaign is a party, and that’s exactly what Chris Pine will be leading in the upcoming D&D film, Honor Among Thieves. Just in, we have a featurette introducing us to all the characters in the main group, including their class and abilities.

Check this out:

So we have Edgin (Chris Pine) the bard, Holga (Michelle Rodriguez) the barbarian, Simon (Justice Smith) the sorcerer, Doric (Sophia Lillis) the druid, and Xenk (Rege-Jean Page) the paladin. The featurette also introduces us to Forge (Hugh Grant) the rogue, and Sofina (Daisy Head) the Red Wizard.

While the rest of the characters in the party have had their powers explained, I am curious about Edgin. We know that he’s just a bard, but seeing that he looks to be the lead of the party, I’m wondering if he has some kind of tragic backstory. Why else would Chris Pine be playing him?

The film looks like a whole lot of fun, and should be relatable to audience members who already play Dungeons & Dragons. I’m just hoping Honor Among Thieves manages to get some watchers to pick up the game after they’ve seen the film.

Here’s the official description:

A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. New Clip from Dungeons & Dragons Movie Features Some Light Necromancy https://www.geekfeed.com/dungeons-dragons-movie-features-light-necromancy/ Tue, 21 Feb 2023 00:15:06 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=73481 Next month will see the release of the Dungeons & Dragons movie starring Chris Pine, and though it still has a few weeks to go, we have a new clip that has the team performing some ‘light necromancy.’

Check this out:

The clip basically has the party resurrecting the dead to gather some information, but since there are rules to necromancy, they could only ask five questions.

Though necromancy is considered a ‘dark art’ and is usually forbidden when it comes to fantasy worlds, it seems that the spell here is being used for laughs, and we have the party struggling to get answers without mistakenly asking the wrong questions.

The lore of Dungeons & Dragons may be serious, but as more people have been playing the game today, the tone of DND has admittedly changed, with characters usually taking on modern personalities (and humor) and being thrust into a serious fantasy world.

If anything, the movie looks to be embracing modern Dungeons & Dragons, having the characters written like a mishmash of certain players, with Pine being the reckless bard paired with Michelle Rodriguez who is just in it for the action, and Justice Smith who seems to be a newbie with magic.

The only other property I think that comes close with the tone is Amazon’s animated The Legend of Vox Machina, which is also based on an actual DND campaign; but I guess the movie is going to be more family-friendly.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is set to hit cinemas on March 31.

New Trailer for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a Campaign Come to Life https://www.geekfeed.com/new-trailer-for-dungeons-dragons-movie/ Wed, 25 Jan 2023 07:09:29 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=73049 Shows like Stranger Things and Community have great odes to the Dungeons & Dragons culture, but we’re set to get an official movie this March starring Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez. As we’re getting closer to the release, Paramount has dropped a whole new trailer for the film, and it looks even more like a modern D&D campaign.

Check this out:

Though we’ve had fantasy movies before, it looks like Dungeons & Dragons will set itself apart by embracing the modern humor of players today. While there are some characters like Justice Smith’s who seem to be taking the game seriously, we have some players like Pine and Rodriguez who just seem to be having fun with all the adventure.

There has been a lot of debate on how a Dungeons & Dragons adaptation should be handled, but I think Honor Among Thieves has decided to do a mix of embracing the lore seriously while offering a taste of what it’s like to play a modern campaign.

It looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.

Here’s the official synopsis:

A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Drops New Featurette https://www.geekfeed.com/dungeons-dragons-movie-drops-new-featurette/ Tue, 06 Dec 2022 11:32:17 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=72334 Chris Pine may not be starring in a Star Trek anytime soon, but he’s teamed up with Paramount to play the bard of an unlikely band of heroes in the Dungeons & Dragons movie. Honor Among Thieves is set to come out this March, and we have a new featurette giving us a better look at this raunchy fantasy world.

Watch this:

If anything, the movie still looks like a big0budget fantasy romp, but the Dungeons & Dragons element comes in when the characters talk to each other like they’re in a modern setting. We don’t have a look at a Dungeon Master or 20-sided dice, but I think the film is going to attempt to capture what it feels like to play a modern-day campaign of D&D.

So far, Chris Pine absolutely shines in the trailers; though he is Captain Kirk in Star Trek, here he’s just a charming wildcard of a bard. The rest of his team also looks like a good bit of fun, with Rege –Jean Page’s character looking to be the ‘Lawful Good’ type who wants to take the game too seriously. Michaelle Rodriguez’s character feels like she’s just there to kick ass.

I can’t wait for the release of this film, and I’m hoping we get a new trailer soon.

Chris Pine Stars in Trailer for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves https://www.geekfeed.com/chris-pine-stars-in-dungeons-dragons-movie/ Mon, 25 Jul 2022 01:48:59 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=70211 It will be a while before we get to see Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk, but he’s jumped on from sci-fi to fantasy-adventure with Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Just in, we have a new trailer, and Pine looks to be the lead of this band of fantasy adventurers.

Check out the Dungeons & Dragons movie trailer here:

A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure.

While a lot of fans thought that Pine was going to be playing the Dungeon Master of the movie, it looks like he’s pretty much part of the party—specifically, he looks to be the team’s bard. Besides that, the cast of characters looks to be colourful, and the banter between all of them feel like a bunch of friends sitting on a table playing D&D.

Stranger Things has pretty much hyped Dungeons & Dragons for a new generation, and besides the humor, the film even has that heavy metal soundtrack that would make Eddie Munson proud. I’m sure there are also some references in the game that a lot of longtime D&D players would immediately recognize, and if this movie gets anyone to try out the game, it would have done its job.

Catch Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves when it hits theaters March 2023.

Florence Pugh is Definitely Not Crazy in Don’t Worry Darling https://www.geekfeed.com/florence-pugh-is-definitely-not-crazy-in-dont-worry-darling/ Tue, 03 May 2022 09:59:52 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=65088 Olivia Wilde has proven herself quite adept with comedy when she directed Booksmart, but this next film from her starring Florence Pugh seems far from fun and games.

Watch the trailer for Don’t Worry Darling starring Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, and more:

The trailer is purposefully vague when it comes to the plot of the story, but the official description does lay out the setting very extensively:

Alice (Pugh) and Jack (Styles) are lucky to be living in the idealized community of Victory, the experimental company town housing the men who work for the top-secret Victory Project and their families. The 1950’s societal optimism espoused by their CEO, Frank (Pine)—equal parts corporate visionary and motivational life coach—anchors every aspect of daily life in the tight-knit desert utopia.

While the husbands spend every day inside the Victory Project Headquarters, working on the “development of progressive materials,” their wives—including Frank’s elegant partner, Shelley (Chan)—get to spend their time enjoying the beauty, luxury and debauchery of their community. Life is perfect, with every resident’s needs met by the company. All they ask in return is discretion and unquestioning commitment to the Victory cause.

But when cracks in their idyllic life begin to appear, exposing flashes of something much more sinister lurking beneath the attractive façade, Alice can’t help questioning exactly what they’re doing in Victory, and why. Just how much is Alice willing to lose to expose what’s really going on in this paradise?

If you’ve seen Midsommar, you’ll know that Pugh can pretty much play the woman in a troubled relationship, and it looks like she’s going to be playing the same archetype when it comes to Don’t Worry Darling.

If anything, the movie kind of feels a lot like The Stepford Wives, but this time, it’s the husbands who are keeping a terrible secret, and it’s Florence Pugh who has started to see throught the cracks of the whole façade.

Catch Don’t Worry Darling when it hits theaters on Sept. 23.

Paramount Announces Dungeons & Dragons Movie Title https://www.geekfeed.com/paramount-announces-official-title-of-dungeons-dragons-movie/ Thu, 28 Apr 2022 16:12:08 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=65024 The year 2000 had tried and failed to adapt Dungeons & Dragons for the big screen, but Paramount Pictures is going to have one more stab at the IP when it hits theaters next year. Just in, we have the official title reveal of the upcoming D&D movie.

Watch the Dungeons & Dragons movie here:

The video also came with the official description:

Our campaign begins… Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Come join our party with Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Chloe Coleman, Daisy Head, and Hugh Grant as our journey begins in theatres on March 3, 2023.

The description doesn’t really give us a good idea of what to expect with the story, but Chris Pine has previously described the movie as Game of Thrones meets Princess Bride with a dash of Holy Grail, and a good dose of Goonies.” From that we can surmise that the film will have a lighter fantasy tone—as compared to the serious take of franchises like Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings.

With Dungeons & Dragons being so prevalent in pop-culture, I’m interested to see what direction the movie is going to take the IP. While I think it’s a given they stick to the established lore, it would be great if this could encourage audience members to try out the actual game for the first time.

Dungens & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is set to hit theaters on March 3, 2023.

Star Trek Returning to the Big Screen with Original 2009 Cast https://www.geekfeed.com/star-trek-returning-to-the-big-screen-with-original-2009-cast/ Sun, 20 Feb 2022 17:42:46 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=64142 The Trek movies have been finding a hard time getting back to the big screen since Star Trek Beyond, but the good news is, Paramount is ready to jump back into the Kelvin Timeline.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a recent Paramount investors event had executive Brian Robbins and producer J.J. Abrams announced that they plan to bring the original cast back together, and that includes Chris Pine (Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Karl Urban (McCoy), John Cho (Sulu), and Simon Pegg (Scotty). One crew member that won’t be able to come back is Chekov, played by Anton Yelchin, who died back in 2016.

There were already plans for a follow-up to Beyond when it came out, but after the film underperformed, it was said that Paramount wanted to take the franchise in a different direction. There was buzz of projects from Quentin Tarantino and Noah Hawley, but the projects ultimately led nowhere. Fingers crossed that the Paramount going in a direction that won’t just be commercially viable, but also more creatively enriching to the Trek franchise.

Let’s just hope the marketing team doesn’t fumble the branding like they did with Beyond:

I’m honestly happy they’re planning to bring the 2009 cast back. Pine and everyone else just made the roles their own and they introduced a new generation of fans to the where no one has gone before. Personally, I would love for them to continue the thread that Beyond was pushing, but I am open to seeing the franchise go into a completely different direction—as long as it keeps true to the main themes of Star Trek.

No release date has been set for the next Star Trek movie.

Star Trek 4 Finally Pushes Forward with WandaVision Director https://www.geekfeed.com/star-trek-4-finally-pushes-forward-with-wandavision-director/ Wed, 14 Jul 2021 12:32:32 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60521 After the underwhelming performance of Star Trek Beyond, Paramount has been having a hard time trying to figure out their next Trek entry. With directors like Quentin Tarantino coming and going, news has come out that the franchise has finally found someone to helm the fourth entry in the Kelvin Timeline.

As per Deadline, WandaVision director Matt Shakman is now attached to direct the fourth Trek film for Paramount and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot. The movie is expected to start production next spring and will be working with a script from Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

We don’t know what kind of plot Star Trek 4 will have, but I’m still hoping that they salvage some story elements from the previous film that were set up by writer Simon Pegg. With Kirk being so hung up about his father (Chris Hemsworth) the whole movie, Beyond seemed to be building up to the two meeting via some time-travel hijinks. With plans falling through (and Hemsworth walking away from the project), it looked like everything Beyond was building up to got cancelled.

Though the film did underperform, Beyond was still considered a great entry compared to Into Darkness. Personally, I thought the movie focused much better on the ensemble rather than just Kirk and Spock, and it gave us a very compelling story about the crew of the Enterprise wihout the Enterprise.

With a production start set for next year, it could be a while before we see Trek back in theaters. May guess is we could either have the film come out late 2023 or early 2024.

As of now, no official release date has been set for Star Trek 4.
