One casting rumor that’s been going around, however, is that of Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals) has been cast as time-traveller Booster Gold. A lot of people were sceptical of the casting, but it could be true.

Talking to The Cosmic Circus, Cobra Kai and Blue Beetle star Xolo Mariduena has seemingly confirmed that Nanjiani has been cast as the DCU’s Booster Gold.  No official announcement has been done by DC at all, but it would make sense for Mariduena to know who Booster Gold is, since fans are expecting a team-up between him and Blue Beetle somewhere down the line.

Traditionally, Booster Gold is a blonde white guy in the comics, and his backstory has him travelling from the future to the present in order to capitalize on his ‘historical’ knowledge. Fancasts for the character have included the likes of Chris Pratt and Glen Powell. With Nanjiani’s announcement though, a lot of fans thought he was actually a great choice. He certainly has the comedy chops, and fans have already seen him play a con-man in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

I’m just hoping that when DC does make the official announcement, they’ll make sure to keep the ‘anti-woke’ fans from spouting anything offensive at Nanjiani. Then again, Nanjiani’s probably used to this by now, seeing that he’s already been through the MCU roller coaster.

Hopefully they make the official announcement soon. No official announcement has been made for a Booster Gold movie or a Blue Beetle sequel, but the new DCU official debuts with Superman in July 11, 2025

Zack Snyder Shows Support for DC’s Upcoming Blue Beetle https://www.geekfeed.com/snyder-shows-support-for-dcs-upcoming-blue-beetle/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 14:13:48 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=78043 Though often touted by his cult of followers online, Zack Snyder has been very quiet about the current direction of DC, putting most of his focus on the release of Netflix’s Rebel Moon. With him being mostly silent on the release of The Flash, Snyder has surprisingly shown support for a movie that apparently no one is excited for — Blue Beetle.

This was Snyder’s post:

With The Flash going down online as one of DC’s biggest flops in the franchise, everyone has already been going around talking about the lack of marketing for Blue Beetle and how it seems that WB is planning to just sweep the film under the rug.

Support from Snyder is definitely interesting, seeing as he has a huge chunk of fans (who are also possibly bots) who hang onto his every post; after all, they did manage to release Zack Snyder’s Justice League even though it seemed it was never going to happen.

Maybe Snyder showing support for Blue Beetle could foster some interest from his fanbase; after all, this movie is said to be one of the first in the canonical timeline of James Gunn’s DCU.

If anything, WB should be doubling down on Blue Beetle because it was originally an HBO Max film that was upgraded to a theatrical release. Of course, WB Discovery head David Zaslav wasn’t running things when that happened, but I’m hoping the film manages to generate some positive buzz because I am a fan of star Xolo Mariduena from his work on Cobra Kai.

Watch out for Blue Beetle when it comes to theaters on Aug. 18.

DC Drops Final Trailer for Blue Beetle https://www.geekfeed.com/dc-drops-final-trailer-for-blue-beetle/ Thu, 13 Jul 2023 14:12:57 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=77768 Xolo Maridueña may be this generation’s Karate Kid thanks to Cobra Kai, but he’s now set to make the jump to superhero movies with the upcoming Blue Beetle. The film is set to release next month, and with The Flash ending its theatrical run, we have a final trailer for the movie.

Check this out:

Here’s the official description for the film:

Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero BLUE BEETLE.

Originally, the film was supposed to release on HBO Max alongside projects like Batgirl, but somehow they upgraded the film to actually have a theatrical run.

We don’t know what’s so special about Blue Beetle that they decided to release it in cinemas, but you can clearly see his potential as a popular superhero, being a sort of cross between Iron Man (the advanced suit and technology) and Green Lantern (the ability to construct anything Jaime can imagine).

It’s still unclear how the DCEU will be moving forward with James Gunn and Peter Safran at the helm, but some think that Blue Beetle will be the first main entry in the new timeline. Hopefully things get clarified soon.

Blue Beetle comes to cinemas on Aug. 18.

First Trailer for Blue Beetle Stars Cobra Kai’s Xolo Maridueña https://www.geekfeed.com/blue-beetle-stars-cobra-kais-xolo-mariduena/ Sun, 09 Apr 2023 04:20:39 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76146 Cobra Kai may be set to end soon, but Xolo Maridueña is set to step into the world of DC as his own superhero.

Just in, we have our first trailer for Blue Beetle, and it showcases one of DC’s more obscure (but fan-favorite) characters. Check this out:

The official synopsis reads:

Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero BLUE BEETLE.

Besides Maridueña, the movie also features Susan Sarandon as the main antagonist as well as George Lopez, Harvey Guillen, and Adriana Barraza. The film is also directed by Angel Manuel Soto with a  script from Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.

I guess it’s also worth noting that the film was originally supposed to come out on HBO Max, but it got upgraded to a theatrical release. It’s a good thing this one managed to avoid the DC purge—unlike the Batgirl movie.

So far, the film looks pretty decent, but I think the film will have to try hard to feel like a different movie. After the underwhelming performance of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, DC will have to prove that they can make superheroes interesting in their own way. They pretty much have a head start after Marvel slipped up with Quantumania.

Blue Beetle is set to come to cinemas on Aug. 18.

Xolo Mariduena is Blue Beetle in Leaked Set Photos https://www.geekfeed.com/xolo-mariduena-is-blue-beetle-in-leaked-set-photos/ Mon, 30 May 2022 13:25:57 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=65385 After his success with Cobra Kai, Xolo Mariduena has signed on for HBO Max’s Blue Beetle movie—which is now making the jump to the big screen. We don’t have an official look at the film yet, but some leaked photos from Just Jared have revealed Mariduena wearing the alien suit.

Check these out:

https://twitter.com/NebsGoodTakes/status/1529553374647050242

While there have been several incarnations of Blue Beetle in the comics, this one will be based on Jaime Reyes who was introduced back in the Infinite Crisis storyline. In the comics, Reyes is granted powers by an alien suit, becoming the Blue Beetle.

The costume in the set looks pretty close to what we got in the comics, but I think the head looks a bit large. If anything, I think they could be editing the entire thing with CGI to make it look smaller, but I guess the suit already works from a practical standpoint.

What I’m wondering is if they’re going to give Blue Beetle a mouth, because it might work with animation and comics, but I think it would look a bit freaky in live-action. On the other hand, not having a mouth on the costume kind of makes the character look like a blue Spawn/Deadpool.

The movie is set for a 2023 release, so it’s going to be a while before we get an official look from WB. In the meantime, we do have several other properties to watch out for like Aquaman 2, The Flash, and the Batgirl solo film.

Blue Beetle hits theaters on Aug. 17, 2023.

Blue Beetle Casts Sharon Stone as Main Antagonist https://www.geekfeed.com/blue-beetle-casts-sharon-stone-as-main-antagonist/ Wed, 30 Mar 2022 15:31:18 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=64643 It looks like Sharon Stone is once again playing another DC antagonist.

Variety reports that Stone is in talks to play the villain in DCEU’s Blue Beetle movie starring Xolo Maridueña. She is set to play the villain Victoria Kord that has been created for the movie—but I suspect that this could be a rewrite of an established villain from the comics.

Back in 2004, Stone actually played opposite Halle Berry in the Catwoman movie where she played a cosmetic company owner that was looking to peddle an anti-aging cream that had a horrible secret. Almost 20 years later, Stone is going to be coming back to comic book movies, but this time she’ll be going up against Miguel from Cobra Kai.

Besides Stone and Maridueña, the movie’s cast also includes Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, and Harvey Guillen.

Originally, Blue Beetle was announced as a movie for HBO Max, but it was then revealed that it would be releasing in theaters. We don’t know what that means officially, but it could be a hint that WB suddenly has faith for this movie. Too bad we can’t say the same thing about Batgirl, which is still expected to debut exclusively on HBO Max. With Barbara Gordon being an established character and Batman all the rage right now, you would think that they would give Batgirl a chance to thrive in cinemas.

With a release set for 2023, maybe we can get an update on Blue Beetle before the year ends. After the delay of Aquaman 2 and The Flash, DC has to market what they could.

Blue Beetle is set to hit theaters on Aug. 18, 2023.

New DC Trailer Teases Flash, Black Adam, Aquaman 2 and More https://www.geekfeed.com/new-dc-trailer-teases-flash-black-adam-aquaman-2-and-more/ Tue, 15 Feb 2022 06:20:27 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=64086 Marvel Studios may still be dominating the superhero scene, but everyone is just waiting for what DC will do next. This year will see them have a packed slate, and we have a trailer that showcases some new footage from The Batman, The Flash, Black Adam, and Aquaman 2: The Lost Kingdom.

Watch the new DC trailer down here:

One of the most buzzed elements about the trailer is the look of Flash. We had gotten a tease for his new costume before, but the angle was just so off that the cowl looked ridiculous. With this new teaser, the helmet actually looks pretty great, and it also comes with some orange goggles that complete the look. Hopefully we have a full trailer soon that gives us a better look at the entire outfit.

As for Black Adam, we have a look at the Justice Society of America, which has members like Doctor Fate, Atom Smasher, Hawkman, and Cyclone. We don’t know exactly what their place in the DCEU is, but it would be interesting to know what exactly the status of the Justice League since there hasn’t been any mention of them in the canon since 2017.

Admittedly there are only short looks for Batman and Aquaman, but they are two of the biggest DC characters in the roster, so I expect DC to want a tighter lid on those properties. We’ll likely get a better look at them soon, as well as some upcoming DC/HBO Max properties like Batgirl and Blue Beetle.

The next DC property coming out to theaters this year is The Batman, and hit hits theaters on March 4.

DC’s Blue Beetle No Longer HBO Max Exclusive https://www.geekfeed.com/dcs-blue-beetle-no-longer-hbo-max-exclusive/ Mon, 27 Dec 2021 15:12:05 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=62989 Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña is set to play the lead role of Blue Beetle for HBO Max, but it looks like the movie won’t be hitting the streaming service anymore—instead it’s going to get a theatrical release.

As per Variety, Blue Beetle is now set to hit theaters, and is aiming to come out on Aug. 18, 2023. This will be the first DC project that was originally announced for streaming, but then upgraded for a theatrical release. One can’t help but wonder if the same could be done for Batgirl—who is no doubt the more popular character.

Maridueña will be playing the Jaime Reyes incarnation of the Blue Beetle, who was created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hamner; and introduced in Infinite Crisis. In the comics, Jaime finds a Blue Beetle scarab that grants him an extraterrestrial suit of armor.

For a while rumors were circulating that the movie was going to be a buddy-cop film with BB and Booster Gold; but for now, it looks like this film is going to be a solo outing. Then again, Booster could prove for a great foil character for Jaime, starting out as an opportunist from the future to an actual hero of the present.

Going back to Maridueña, he’s proven himself as a solid protagonist with Cobra Kai, being able to switch between action star and timid nerd with ease. It’s going to be great to watch him take the spotlight, and based on the theatrical upgrade, WB could have some real faith in this movie.

Catch Blue Beetle when it hits theaters on Aug. 18, 2023. Catch Mariduena when Cobra Kai returns to Netflix on Dec. 31.

Cobra Kai Star in Talks to Play DC’s Blue Beetle https://www.geekfeed.com/cobra-kai-star-in-talks-to-play-dcs-blue-beetle/ Wed, 04 Aug 2021 15:29:28 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=60892 DC is currently taking baby steps when it comes to bringing their biggest heroes back to the big screen, but they seem to be pushing harder for the release of lesser-known properties on HBO Max. After news of Leslie Grace nabbing the Batgirl role, news has come out that they’re looking at a Cobra Kai star to be the live-action Blue Beetle.

According to The Wrap, Xolo Maridueña is now in talks to play lead Jaime Reyes for the Blue Beetle film. The movie is set to come out on HBO Max and will be directed by Charm City Kings helmer Angel Manuel Soto.

While Blue Beetle has had several iterations in the comics, this version is based on a more recent incarnation that came out in 2006. Created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hamner, Jaime Reyes was introduced during the Infinite Crisis crossover event and has since been one of the more prominent versions of the character. In the comics, Jaime finds a Blue Beetle scarab that gave him a suit of extraterrestrial armor.

If you haven’t checked out Cobra Kai, Maridueña plays the role of Miguel Diaz, a bullied kid who takes up karate from ex-Cobra Kai champion Johnny Lawrence. While the story does feature original Karate Kid characters, Miguel is considered to be this generation’s Danny LaRusso, and has proven to be an endearing character despite working for the “bad” dojo. If Blue Beetle should push through, Maridueña would definitely be a solid choice for a lead.

For now, no release date has been set for Blue Beetle. Catch Maridueña in the fourth season of Cobra Kai which is set to hit Netflix sometime later this year.
