As it turns out, the return of the old Marvel Fox heroes was a really big deal for the production, and director Shawn Levy has shared some official behind-the-scenes images of the Legacy characters coming together. Check these out:

Though fans may be familiar with Elektra and Blade getting their own films, Gambit was a movie that was announced but never got into production. The studio went so far as to have Channing Tatum announced as Gambit at a Hall H panel, but the movie went into Development Hell, and the acquisition of Fox by Disney didn’t help the film’s chances either.

Other heroes that were said to have been courted for an appearance was Ghost Rider, but Nicolas Cage declined an offer to return. There were also rumors that other Fantastic Four members would appear, but the only one that did was Chris Evans’ Human Torch/ Johnny Storm.

So far, Deadpool and Wolverine have been earning mixed reactions from fans with some saying that the movie relied too heavily on nostalgia and was setting a bad precedent for the future of the MCU; but the box office numbers don’t lie, and the film is going down to be the most successful R-rated movie of all time, beating Passion of the Christ.

Deadpool and Wolverine is now showing in theatres.

Blade Reboot Once Again Loses Director https://www.geekfeed.com/blade-reboot-once-again-loses-director/ Sat, 15 Jun 2024 11:04:36 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82854 Blade starring Wesley Snipes was one of the defining movies of the edgy superhero genre back in the 2000s, and it was announced back in 2019 that there would be a reboot with Mahershala Ali set in the MCU.

Five years later, and the movie looks like it’s still not moving forward. According to The Wrap, the film has just gone through another major snag by losing director Yann Demange. We don’t have much details about Demange leaving, but it was said to have been amicable with the studio. Demange had replaced Bassam Tariq who was the original choice to helm the film.

For now, Eric Pearson is currently working on the script. Pearson is also said to be the one behind another upcoming MCU project with Fantastic Four. Previous drafts of Blade came from writers Michael Green, Nic Pizzolatto, and Michael Starrbury.

We don’t know what could be taking Blade so long to get off the ground, but it’s possible that it could have something to do with the character’s branding. We know that Snipes’ version was all about wearing trench coats and fighting vampires with techno music in the background; but the superhero landscape has definitely changed throughout the decades, and it’s unsure if Blade the way it was established is a right fit for the MCU.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see. So far it does look like Mahershala Ali is still onboard. With Marvel slowing down their releases moving forward, maybe this will allow for Blade to have some more time to develop into a proper story.

Blade has no release date.

Could Jordan Peele be Directing a Marvel Movie? https://www.geekfeed.com/could-jordan-peele-be-directing-a-marvel-movie/ Wed, 05 Jun 2024 10:49:40 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82752 Jordan Peele has long moved away from his comedy persona and is now being touted as an auteur horror filmmaker, but what’s interesting is—he could be getting attached to a big IP soon.

According to the InSneider (via @ScreenTime) it’s possible that Peele has already met with Marvel to direct an upcoming MCU film. We don’t have much details about what Peele could be directing, but looking at his filmography, it’s possible that he could be directing something with a black character in the spotlight.

Already everyone is speculating that Peele could be in line to direct the upcoming Blade reboot which has been having a lot of trouble getting off the ground, but so far, it looks like director Yann Demange is still attached to the helm.

I would think that he would love to take on Black Panther, but it’s likely that Marvel Studios wants to stick with Ryan Coogler at the helm; but if Coogler would want to step down, maybe Peele could be a good replacement moving forward.

Personally, I would love for Peele to have his own original take on Luke Cage. We got a version of Luke Cage played by Mike Colter thanks to Netflix, but there has been a lot of criticism for that take not being ‘black enough’—another way to say that the Netflix version took away the grit and street-level attitude that made Cage a unique creation; and turned him into this more generally unoffending superhero.

I mean, if they won’t let Tarantino make his Luke Cage movie, Peele would probably be the best choice to make a commentary on a black superhero that’s not as noble as Black Panther.

Then again, that’s just my pitch. Until we get an official announcement, whatever Peele and Marvel met about will be completely between them.

In the meantime, we’ll just have to wait.

Disney Reshuffles Marvel, Star Wars, and Original IP Release Dates https://www.geekfeed.com/disney-reshuffles-marvel-star-wars-release-dates/ Wed, 14 Jun 2023 16:25:30 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=77294 With the recent allegations against Kang actor Jonathan Majors and Damon Lindelof leaving his Star Wars project, it doesn’t look like things are running smoothly behind-the-scenes at Disney. We don’t have any specifics, but news has just dropped that Disney is now looking to delay several of their announced projects for over a year.

Variety reports that several Marvel projects have been pushed back with Captain America: Brave New World moving from May 2024 to July 26, 2024. This move has effectively pushed back Thunderbolts (Dec. 20, 2024), Blade (Feb. 14, 2023), and Fantastic Four (May 2, 2025). Avengers: The Kang Dynasty gets delayed by a year to May 1, 2026, pushing back Secret Wars to May 7, 2027.

Oddly enough though, Deadpool 3, has been pushed forward, moving from a November 2024 release to May 3, 2024.

As for other IP, we’re getting two separate Star Wars films coming out on May 22, 2026 and Dec. 17, 2027. The live-action Moana movie starring Dwayne Johnson comes out on June 27, 2025, and the release dates for the Avatar sequels have shifted to Dec. 19, 2025, Dec. 21, 2029, and Dec. 19, 2031.

A huge factor to the delay is also the currently ongoing WGA Strike, which has effectively halted all projects in development. Hopefully studios reach a compromise soon, because not only is this affecting multiple films, but television as well.

With a franchise as huge as Disney, you can’t blame them for planning ahead as far as they are, but with all these release date shifts, maybe the studio should just adapt the game studio method of being vaguer with release dates.

It’s just an idea.

Pearl’s Mia Goth Joins the Cast of Marvel’s Blade https://www.geekfeed.com/pearls-mia-goth-joins-the-cast-of-marvels-blade/ Fri, 14 Apr 2023 12:58:10 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76342 Mia Goth seemed to be fine starring in artsy horror movies like the X films and Infinity Pool, but it looks like she’s eventually decided to take a bite out of the Marvel Studios apple.

Deadline reports that Goth has joined the cast of Marvel Studios’ upcoming Blade reboot with Mahershala Ali. There have been no details of who Goth could be playing, but since Blade is about a vampire who take son other vampires and creatures of the night, I think it’s safe to guess that Goth could be playing the main antagonist.

Fans speculate that Blade could be going up against Lilith, the Mother of Demons. Lilith had recently appeared as the main villain for the game Marvel’s Midnight Suns, so it’s possible that they could be using the hype from that game to introduce Lilith to the big screen.

If Goth is good at something, it’s definitely playing the role of an unhinged young woman, but I can imagine Marvel would want to tone it down for Blade, especially since they are still a Disney company. We don’t know what the story for Blade is yet, but it has been said that the film has had a hard time trying to get off the ground. Hopefully director Yann Demange is up for the challenge, and Ali would deliver a whole new take on the Daywalker that doesn’t have everyone looking for Wesley Snipes.

Blade is currently set to hit theaters on Sept. 6, 2024.
