The movie is set to come out later this month, and we have a new trailer that might give us a better idea about the story.

Check this out:

Here’s the official description:

A paranoid man embarks on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother in this bold and ingeniously depraved new film from writer-director Ari Aster.”

The marketing for the film has admittedly been vague, but the movie doesn’t seem to be a horror film like what we can usually expect from a director like Aster. Now it seems that this film could be closer to something like Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind with the trippy visuals going alongside some inner character turmoil.

Aster has described the film, “I wanted to make a film where it feels like you’ve been through a life—or even through a person… It’s like a Jewish Lord of the Rings, but he’s just going to his mom’s house.”

With a lot of fans excited for Phoenix’s Joker return with Folie a Deux, Beau is Afraid should be another interesting character study featuring another powerhouse performance from Phoenix. Hopefully A24 manages to keep the film’s plot a mystery until it actually comes out in theaters.

Beau is Afraid comes to theaters on April 21.

Ari Aster Teases Another Wild Ride with Beau is Afraid Featurette https://www.geekfeed.com/ari-aster-teases-wild-ride-with-beau-is-afraid/ Tue, 04 Apr 2023 18:04:43 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=76138 Modern auteur director Ari Aster has been celebrated for his unique style with films like Hereditary and Midsommar, but it looks like he’s going to be moving from the horror genre with the upcoming Beau is Afraid starring Joaquin Phoenix. The film is set to hit theaters later this month, and we have a new featurette giving us a look at Aster’s next cinematic trip.

Check this out:

Aster says about the movie:

“If you pumped a 10-year-old full of Zoloft and had him get your groceries, that’s like this movie… I wanted to make a film where it feels like you’ve been through a life—or even through a person… It’s like a Jewish Lord of the Rings, but he’s just going to his mom’s house.”

Despite all the previews we’ve gotten for the movie, the plot for Beau is Afraid is admittedly still very vague. Then again, this is an A24 film with Aster at the helm, so we should probably expect something that is already a bit more arthouse than your usual cinematic experience. I’m just hoping that the movie won’t be too hard to understand; more of The Northman rather than The Lighthouse, if you watch my drift.

Here’s the description for the film:

A paranoid man embarks on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother in this bold and ingeniously depraved new film from writer-director Ari Aster.”

Beau is Afraid comes to theaters on April 21.

Joaquin Phoenix Stars in Bonkers Trailer for Ari Aster’s Beau is Afraid https://www.geekfeed.com/phoenix-stars-in-bonkers-beau-is-afraid-trailer/ Thu, 12 Jan 2023 15:52:24 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=72856 Ari Aster had delivered instant horror classics with Hereditary and Midsommar, but now he’s gearing up to deliver another unique film with Beau is Afraid starring Joaquin Phoenix. The film is set to come out this April, and we just got a crazy new trailer.

Watch this:

The trailer is admittedly pretty wild and confusing, but A24 had released an official synopsis which reads:

“A paranoid man embarks on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother in this bold and ingeniously depraved new film from writer-director Ari Aster.”

Though it looks like Phoenix is going to be pulling a Nutty Professor and play multiple roles in the movie, the movie also stars Nathan Lane, Patty LuPone, Amy Ryan, Parker Posey, Michael Gandolfini, Richard Kind, and more.

With Aster being known for his disturbing horror movies, Beau is Afraid kind of feels like a change of pace, with the colourful palette, and kind of dramatic tone. We don’t know what kind of story Aster is trying to tell now, but I am actually up for him trying to switch genres from time to time. I’m sure no director wants to place themselves in a creative box.

Then again, even with the bright and colourful trailer, I have a feeling that Aster is still aiming to get everyone creeped out when they get to the cinema expecting to watch this film.

Beau is Afraid is slated for a theatrical release on April 21.
