Just to give fans a taste of what kind of horror the series is going to be giving, a new clip from the show has been dropped, and it certainly has a very unique horror atmosphere going on. Check this out:

It doesn’t really go all out with the horror that the series has been known for, but just the creepy build-up to the reveal of the girl with the spiral on her forehead is going to leave viewers uneasy.

It was said that the series was originally going to be the original manga panels that have been slightly animated, but it was then delayed to give the studio a chance to “replicate the quality of the intricate designs and detailed line work.” By the looks of the clip, some parts do seem to be animated panels from the manga, but there are definitely some animations that look like completely original work.

With Netflix stumbling on their Junji Ito adaptation with Tales of the Macabre, a lot of eyes are on Uzumaki to deliver an adaptation that everyone wants to see. After all, Uzumaki is considered to be Ito’s opus, complete with his signature gore and horror storylines; not to mention the attractive retro anime girls.

If you haven’t checked out Uzumaki the manga yet, maybe this series could very well get you interested in trying out the original source material.

Watch out for Uzumaki when it premieres on Adult Swim and Max on Sept. 28.

A Former Hitman Becomes an Old Shopkeeper (That Still Kicks Ass) in Teaser for Sakamoto Days https://www.geekfeed.com/shppkeeper-kicks-ass-in-teaser-for-sakamoto-days/ Tue, 06 Aug 2024 10:42:38 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=83613 Anime has always had fun with putting fantastical, exaggerated characters in mundane places. They did it with The Way of the Househusband, and now they’re doing it again with Sakamoto Days.

The anime is set to release on Netflix in January, and fans have a new teaser. Check this out:

Here’s the official logline:

SAKAMOTO DAYS follows legendary ex-hitman Taro Sakamoto as he bands with comrades to face off against the looming thread of assassins to ensure a peaceful life with his beloved family.

The manga comes from author Yuto Suzuki and had premiered on the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine back in 2020. The manga is actually still ongoing, and the series has managed to accumulate to 17 volumes as of 2024.

Slam Dunk fans will immediately recognize the older Sakamoto as visually similar to the Coach Anzai character; and just like Anzai, Sakamoto was considered to be the fiercest character way back in his youth before he got a bit more plump and old.

The series also comes from TMS Entertainment, the same studio that deals with adaptations for Baki, Dr. Stone, and Megalo Box.

The premise of an assassin that gets old and runs a store sounds like a premise that you would expect out of a manga. Though popular series like My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen have your typical young protagonists, it’s always fun to see an action-comedy series with an unlikely lead.

Watch out for Sakamoto Days when it premieres on Netflix on January 2025.

Listen to the Official Voice of Foghorn Leghorn Read Memes of Him Rambling at Anime Characters https://www.geekfeed.com/foghorn-leghorn-read-memes-rambling-at-anime/ Wed, 24 Apr 2024 11:05:35 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=82089 WB Pictures may not think that a Looney Tunes movie may do well in the box office with them shelving Coyote vs. Acme, but the internet has recently proven that these characters are still pretty relevant today.

A recent meme that’s been popping up is one that has Foghorn Leghorn rambling at anime characters, and everyone has been having a blast. Check out some of these posts:

The meme has gotten so viral that it eventually got the attention of official Looney Tunes actor Eric Bauza; and he’s decided to post some videos of himself recording some of the memes that have been going around.

Here’s Foghorn rambling at Goku and Vegeta:

https://twitter.com/bauzilla/status/1782847606592532864

https://twitter.com/bauzilla/status/1782844117736910961

And here’s him giving Frieren a stern talking to:

https://twitter.com/bauzilla/status/1782845929026121867

For context, Foghorn Leghorn is supposed to be a parody of Southern politicians from the US, and he’s said to be directly influenced by 1940 radio character Senator Claghorn. Besides his iconic Southern drawl, Leghorn is also known for the heavy use of the word ‘boy’ and it’s usually included in the phrase, “boy, I say boy…”.

When it comes to viral internet memes, we don’t really know what kind of trend will come around next; and that’s the real beauty of the medium. It will probably stick around for a couple of weeks, as per the meme lifecycle, but for now, people are just enjoying the meshing of the two genres that are Looney Tunes and anime.

I’ll tell you what, it’s not as insufferable as the “Look between X and Y on your keyboard” meme.

T・P BON Trailer: Check Out Time Travelling Adventure Anime from the Creators of Doraemon https://www.geekfeed.com/t%e3%83%bbp-bon-trailer-time-travelling-adventure/ Wed, 17 Apr 2024 16:08:16 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81984 The robot cat Doraemon is no doubt a Japanese icon, but the creator duo of Fujio Fujio (Hiroshi Fujimoto and Motoo Abiko) had other IP and characters they worked on. One such property is Time Patrol Bon (T・P BON ), and though it got an OVA back in the 80s, Netflix and Studio Bones have teamed up to do a reboot anime.

Check this out:

Here’s the official description for T・P BON:

An ordinary junior high school student encounters the pages of history! A manga by Fujiko F. Fujio gets a new anime series adaptation for the first time in 30 years.

Though on the surface it does look like T・P BON is going to be a kid-friendly series, it does look like the show is going to deal with more mature themes—just look at all the blood and violence we’re getting in the trailer. There’s even a shot of someone about to shoot themselves in the head.

If anything, rebooting old classic anime/manga has been kind of a rising trend recently. Hits like Urusei Yatsura and Ruruouni Kenshin have been getting the modern anime makeover, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that a property from the creators of one of the most infuential characters in Japan pop-culture is going to get the same treatment.

Hopefully we get to see more of it soon since May is just around the corner.

T・P BON is set to premiere on Netflix on May 2, and the second season will premiere on July 17.

Delicious in Dungeon Gives Look at Cour 2 https://www.geekfeed.com/delicious-in-dungeon-gives-look-at-cour-2/ Mon, 01 Apr 2024 11:15:59 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81734 Anime had recently been filled with isekai storylines with IPs like Mushoki Tensei and KoNoSuBa, but there has been a recent rise in some straight up fantasy like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. One other property that’s been getting some buzz is Delicious in Dungeon or Dungeon Meshi, and with the anime set to close its most recent arc, we have a new trailer that will give us a look at what’s been dubbed as ‘Cour 2’.

Check this out:

Here’s the official description translated:

Laios is an adventurer who rescued his sister Falin from the Red Dragon. Suddenly, they are attacked by the “mad magician” who is the master of the labyrinth. The celebration of reopening was short-lived, but his sister disappeared once again in the depths of the dungeon…

The group that resuscitated her sister despite violating taboos was condemned. In a critical situation where he is on the verge of losing his friends, Raios makes a decision. “I will defeat the “Frenzy Magician” and rescue Farin without fail!”

Cockatrice, harpy, and griffin! Aim to pass through the dungeon while eating the attacking monsters, adventurer!

Besides the trailer, Studio Trigger has also dropped a new key visual that features all the new incoming characters. Check this out:

Though the first cour of the anime had only 13 episodes, it’s said that Dungeon Meshi is expected to run for a total of 24. With the first season covering several arcs from the original manga, I’m just crossing my fingers that they’ll be able to adapt the whole story for the anime.

Manga-readers have been warning anime fans online though. The first parts of the show may have seemed friendly enough, but ever since the clash with the Red Dragon, we should expect things to take a darker turn moving forward.

The second cour of Delicious in Dungeon starts streaming this week.

Harley Quinn, Joker, and More Get the Anime Treatment in Trailer for Suicide Squad ISEKAI https://www.geekfeed.com/trailer-for-suicide-squad-isekai-released/ Wed, 20 Mar 2024 11:56:46 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=81579 Just in case you’re not familiar with anime, Isekai is a genre where characters from a modern timeline are brought into a medieval fantasy one; and that’s exactly what they’re doing to DC’s Task Force X with Suicide Squad ISEKAI.

The series is set to premiere this year, and we have a new trailer showcasing villains Harley Quinn, Joker, Deadshot, King Shark, Peacemaker, and a Michael Jackson-inspired Clayface. Check this out:

The trailer also showcases the anime’s ending theme Go-Getters from Mori Calliope. We should also expect there to be a unique opening theme, but we’ll just have to wait until the marketing is ready to reveal that to the audience.

With the character of the Joker having a hard time coming back to the big screen, it’s great that we got an anime iteration of him in this series; and he looks every bit as anime-fied as you would expect a character like him to be.

We never really got to see Jared Leto’s true performance as the Joker in Suicide Squad, but maybe this Suicide Squad ISEKAI version could be a close-second. He does have a lot of the tattoos, and he’s a bit closer to a crazy mob leader than a dangerous clown—but it could be too early to tell.

You think Batman is going to show up?

No specific release date has been announced for Suicide Squad ISEKAI, but you can expect it to premiere sometime later this year.

Pluto: Watch Latest Trailer for Netflix’s Gritty Astro Boy Remake https://www.geekfeed.com/pluto-watch-trailer-for-gritty-astro-boy-remake/ Thu, 05 Oct 2023 09:33:36 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=79009 Osamu Tezuka’s Astro Boy is considered to be one of the foundations of modern manga and anime, and artist Naoki Urasawa gave it a reboot when he created the manga Pluto based on the Astro Boy story The Greatest Robot on Earth. The manga had originally run back in the ‘00s, and now Netflix is ready to release their anime adaptation of the source material.

The series premieres later this month, and we have a new trailer that showcases Atom (Astro Boy’s original name) as well as the rest of this robot/human world. Check this out:

The official description reads:

A murder occurs in an orderly world where robots are unable to kill humans.

The robotic Europol investigator Gesicht takes the case, but the mystery deepens when he finds no trace of a human at the scene of the crime.

As he pursues the truth, Gesicht uncovers the most evil manifestation of hate that history ever seen, one that is bent on bringing destruction to the world …

The series will be coming from Studio M2 who has worked on anime like Onihei and Usuzumizakura: Garo. Though a lot of the character designs have been modernized to look like sci-fi out of Ghost in the Shell, you can see that a lot of Tezuka’s original manga elements are also apparent in the show—especially when it comes to Atom and his hair.

So far, the series looks fantastic, and should be an interesting entry point into what a lot consider a cornerstone in manga as an artform. Hopefully Pluto will manage to complete Urasawa’s adaptation and not leave any fans hanging.

Pluto premieres on Netflix this coming Oct. 26.

Watch New Clip for the Anime Scott Pilgrim Takes Off https://www.geekfeed.com/watch-clip-for-the-anime-scott-pilgrim-takes-off/ Mon, 02 Oct 2023 06:52:52 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=78943 Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World may be a one and done film, but the original cast is set to come back for an anime adaptation of the original source material. The series is set to premiere in November, and we have a new clip with Scott, Ramona, and more.

Check this out:

The scene essentially has Scott (Michael Cera) asking Julie (Aubrey Plaza) about Ramona (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and we see him order a package on Netflix (originally Amazon) expecting her to make the delivery. Scott’s roommate Wallace (Kieran Culkin) is also in the scene, and he asks Scott to search for a Lucas Lee (Chris Evans) film on Netflix.

It’s just a short clip, but we can already see some differences with the live-action film; particularly when it comes to the snapiness of the narrative. Though Wright’s style feels like it definitely goes hand-in-hand with Scott Pilgrim, I am interested to see this new direction the anime is going. Even then, a lot of Wright’s influence can still be expected in the series.

I do have to say that Cera’s voice as Scott is kind of different in the clip, but I guess we’ll just have to wait for the final product to see how everything meshes together.

Scott Pilgrim meets the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers, but learns he must defeat her seven evil exes in order to date her. Then things get even more complicated. Based on the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off premieres on Netflix on Nov. 17.

Prepare for Luffy and the Straw Hats in Final Trailer for Netflix’s One Piece https://www.geekfeed.com/luffy-in-final-trailer-for-netflixs-one-piece/ Thu, 31 Aug 2023 18:20:12 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=78523 After critical bombs of anime adaptations like Death Note and Cowboy Bebop, Netflix is now gearing up to release their latest live-action anime adaptation—One Piece.

The show is set to premiere this weekend, and we have one final trailer showcasing the live-action Luffy and the rest of his Straw Hat crew. Watch this:

So far, Netflix has been very sparing when it came to the reveals of the show, but everything we’ve seen in the previews have been pretty solid, from the live-action look of certain characters to the display of their fantastical powers.

Admittedly, One Piece is more on the wacky side of anime, so a lot of fans were worried that Netflix was going to have a hard time pulling this series off; but with the involvement of series creator Eiichiro Oda, it does seem that the show may have managed to capture the spirit of the original.

Then again, we’ll just have to wait and see what the fans think.

Here’s the synopsis for the show:

An alternate version of Earth, and one that is currently in the midst of the ‘Golden Age of Pirates’. Ruthless cut-throat pirates rule the seas, and only the strongest have the chance to lay claim to the mythical treasure known as ‘One Piece’ that was left behind by the greatest pirate of them all Gold Roger.

Years after the death of Gold Roger, a young boy by the name of Monkey D. Luffy has dreams of raising his own crew, finding One Piece, and declaring himself as Pirate King. After eating a devil fruit that grants Luffy the power to make his body like rubber, it gives him enormous strength and agility. When Luffy finally comes of age, he sets sail from Foosha Village in East Blue and sets upon his grand adventure to become the next Pirate King.

One Piece premieres on Netflix on Aug. 31.

Watch New Behind-the-Scenes Look at Netflix’s One Piece https://www.geekfeed.com/behind-the-scenes-look-at-netflixs-one-piece/ Thu, 24 Aug 2023 06:15:51 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=78351 The end of the month will see the premiere of Netflix’s live-action One Piece, and it’s fair to say that a lot of fans are keeping optimistically cautious. Just in, the streaming giant has dropped a new behind-the-scenes featurette, and we have an inside look at how the show was crafted.

Check this out:

It’s not clear exactly which arcs the series is going to follow, but it does look like the show is only going to cover Luffy gathering his first three crew members with Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji. There are also some characters who look to have been fast-forwarded into the story, like Arlong the Saw who has significant history with Nami and her origin.

Admittedly, One Piece is the most cartoonish of the anime that Netflix has tried to adapt, which makes a lot of fans really worried about the live-action version. With the streaming brand having botched adaptations of Death Note and Cowboy Bebop, fans would only think that take on One Piece would be more difficult to pull off.

Even if that was the case, the trailers have been solid, and it looks like the show has found a way to capture the energy of the anime’s actions scenes. Let’s just hope that the quality manages to stay up throughout the whole season rather than a splattering of good and bad visuals here and there.

Watch out for One Piece when it premieres on Netflix on Aug. 31.

Meet the Straw Hat Pirates in First Teaser for Live-Action One Piece https://www.geekfeed.com/first-teaser-for-live-action-one-piece/ Tue, 20 Jun 2023 13:19:06 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=77364 After Cowboy Bebop and Death Note, Netflix is now looking to adapt one of the most popular manga/anime of all time with the live-action One Piece which is set to premiere later this year. Thanks to TUDUM 2023, we now have our first teaser trailer showcasing Luffy, Zoro, and the rest of the Straw Hat crew.

Check the trailer for One Piece here:

The logline reads: Here’s a first look at the live action adaptation of the most popular manga in history, written by Eiichiro Oda.

Though fans know that Luffy’s crew eventually grows in number, it looks like the first season of the series is going to feature the first four members of the crew which are Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji. It will probably be a while before we get characters like Chopper, Brook, Robin, or Franky.

Probably one of the biggest concerns with the fans is the special effects, and if you watch One Piece, you’ll know that Luffy’s powers will be requiring a lot of CG heavy lifting. So far the teaser has only shown us one of Luffy’s signature moves, but if Netflix really wants to pull this off, they’ll have to dish out the money to let Luffy go all out with his elastic powers—not to mention the rest of his crew all have their own special abilities as well.

With a release date set for August, hopefully we get a new teaser with more finished VFX by July.

One Piece premieres on Netflix on Aug. 31.

Netflix’s One Piece Release Date Leaked? https://www.geekfeed.com/netflixs-one-piece-release-date-leaked/ Wed, 08 Feb 2023 16:22:34 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=73290 Netflix had just given us a first look at their live-action One Piece a few weeks ago, and they’ve confirmed that the series is set to come out sometime this year. Though we don’t have an official release date yet, a leak suggests that we could have the show sometime after summer.

What’s On Netflix reports that the live-action One Piece series could premiere on the platform on Thursday, August 31. So far, nothing official has been confirmed by Netflix, but the release does make sense, what with the film’s sparse marketing as of now.

Here’s the description for the live-action One Piece:

An alternate version of Earth, and one that is currently in the midst of the ‘Golden Age of Pirates’. Ruthless cut-throat pirates rule the seas, and only the strongest have the chance to lay claim to the mythical treasure known as ‘One Piece’ that was left behind by the greatest pirate of them all Gol D. Roger.

Since the series spends a lot of its time with Luffy gathering his crew one member at a time, it looks like the first season will focus on him finding Zoro, Nami, Sanji, and Usopp. We should expect Luffy to find Chopper as well, but seeing as they could be bringing him to life with CG, they could be holding him back for the next season.

With the crazy visuals and action of One Piece, I’m really curious if the series is going to be able to catch up. I mean, building the world is one thing, but the show will need a ridiculous CG budget if they want to replicate the fight scenes in live-action.

No official release date has been announced for Netflix’s live-action One Piece, but the show is expected to premiere sometime this year.

Chainsaw Man Opening Parodies Several Classic Films https://www.geekfeed.com/chainsaw-man-opening-parodies-classic-films/ Thu, 13 Oct 2022 05:40:52 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=71539 A lot of fans are excited for the anime premiere of hit manga Chainsaw Man, and now Studio MAPPA has decided to release the opening credits sequence. Check this out:

While anime opening sequences usually like to do their own thing with some tropes here and there, Chainsaw Man’s opening was filled with references to other classic films like Pulp Fiction, Big Lebowski, Reservoir Dogs, and No Country for Old Men. Here are some comparisons:

https://twitter.com/Yuyucow/status/1579936239192805376

This isn’t even the fill breakdown of references in the OP yet, and more are coming out online. If anything, it’s a testament to Shingo Yamashita’s love or the craft, and some are also saying that it also references Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto’s love for cinema as well.

With the shonen anime like One Punch Man, My Hero Academia, and Jujutsu Kaisen dominating the market right now, Chainsaw Man promises to jump into the fray with a fresh new look at unique tone.

When his father died, Denji was stuck with a huge debt and no way to pay it back. Thanks to a Devil dog he saved named Pochita, he’s able to survive through odd jobs and killing Devils for the Yakuza. Pochita’s chainsaw powers come in handy against these powerful demons. When the Yakuza betrays him and he’s killed by the Zombie Devil, Pochita sacrifices himself to save his former master. Now Denji has been reborn as some kind of weird Devil-Human hybrid. He is now a Chainsaw Man!

Chainsaw Man is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Meet the Cast of Netflix’s Live-Action One Piece https://www.geekfeed.com/meet-the-cast-of-netflixs-live-action-one-piece/ Fri, 12 Nov 2021 03:54:26 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=62359 We’ve yet to get the live-action Cowboy Bebop on Netflix yet, but the streaming giant has chosen to reveal their cast for another live-action anime adaptation One Piece. Get to meet the live-action faces of the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji.

Here’s the official announcement:

The cast includes Inaki Godoy (Luffy), Mackenyu (Zoro), Emily Rudd (Nami), Jacob Gibson (Usopp), and Taz Skylar (Sanji). We should probably expect more live-action characters to be announced soon; though we have our main pirate gang, there’s still some kooky characters from the navy, not to mention other pirates.

Just like Bebop, it looks like the show will be slowly building up the crew of the Going Merry starting with Zoro, all the way up to Sanji. More crew members have been added to the ship in the manga, but seeing as this is just the first season, they could only include so many new characters.

With the wackiness of One Piece, hopefully the live-action series will manage to catch up. My general concern is that they would need a huge budget for CG when it comes to action scenes; with this show having been in development for a while, I hope that showrunner Steven Maeda manages to capture the core essence of the manga at least.

In a seafaring world, a young pirate captain sets out with his crew to attain the title of Pirate King and to discover the mythical treasure One Piece.

No official release date has been set for the live-action One Piece, but you can check out Netflix’s other anime adaptation, Cowboy Bebop, when it releases on Nov. 19.

Mark Millar’s Super Crooks Anime Gets First Teaser https://www.geekfeed.com/mark-millars-super-crooks-anime-gets-first-teaser/ Tue, 28 Sep 2021 13:39:37 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61688 Netflix continues to make good on their deal with Mark Millar, and though Jupiter’s Legacy has been cancelled, Netflix has unveiled their next ‘Millarworld’ project – Super Crooks, a spinoff of JL. The show is going to be an anime adaptation, and we just got our first trailer thanks to TUDUM.

Check out the Super Crooks anime trailer down here:

Here’s the official description:

In this anime adaptation, small-time crook Johnny Bolt recruits the ultimate crew for one last heist — for real! From comic book legend Mark Millar, this super-powered heist story about eight super-villains is jam-packed with action and told in 13x 30-minute episodes lushly produced by Bones.

In case you think the animation style looks familiar, that’s because Bones is the same studio that makes hit anime My Hero Academia and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. While Amazon Prime Video’s Invincible certainly draws inspiration from anime, it’s going to be interesting to see a show that’s actually developed by a studio that’s behind one of the most popular anime today.

With Amazon’s The Boys and Invincible being bunched together by fans for its R-rated superhero takes, it looks like Netflix is putting two together for Super Crooks. Then again, it’s possible that this title could be on the more wholesome side of things. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Super Crooks is admittedly the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Millarworld properties, and we know that titles like American Jesus, The Magic Order, Huck, and Reborn are in development.

Catch Super Crooks when it hits Netflix on Nov. 25.

‘Bright’ Returns in Trailer for ‘Bright: Samurai Soul’ https://www.geekfeed.com/bright-returns-in-trailer-for-bright-samurai-soul/ Mon, 20 Sep 2021 14:43:40 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61555 David Ayer’s Bright came out way back in 2017, and though a sequel had been announced not shortly after, we haven’t been getting any updates. Either way, the world is still full of potential, and Netflix has dropped a trailer for an animated spinoff of Bright called Bright: Samurai Soul.

Watch the trailer for Samurai Soul down here:

Here’s the official description:

Based on the world of the live-action film “Bright” and set in Japan between the end of the shogunate and Meiji era, this spin-off tells the story of Izou, a Ronin, and Raiden, an orc, who work to bring a young elf girl and the wand she carries to the land of the elves in the north…

Though the story has a lot of the same elements of the original film, I think this one is going to be its own original tale. While the fantasy genre is already frequently lumped with medieval Japan, I think Samurai Soul has potential to add to the world of Bright. The character designs are interesting, and though the animation style isn’t my cup of tea, I’m sure there are some who will love it.

Admittedly, Bright didn’t receive sparkling reviews when it came out, but even if that was the case, the world that Ayer built was definitely an interesting take on the fantasy genre, and is a great setting for a lot more stories. You’d think Pixar would have a better modern fantasy take with Onward, but personally I think Bright approaches a more interesting direction.

Catch Bright: Samurai Soul when it comes out on Oct. 12 on Netflix.

Watch Stunning Animation in First Trailer for Star Wars: Visions https://www.geekfeed.com/watch-stunning-animation-in-first-trailer-for-star-wars-visions/ Wed, 18 Aug 2021 16:44:48 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=61071 Disney+ had just premiered their animated show for Marvel Studios, and with all the hype surrounding What If…? we now have a new trailer for the animated Star Wars anthology series, Visions.

Watch the trailer for Visions down here:

Just in case you didn’t know, these are all non-canon stories that take place within the universe of Star Wars. We’ve known for a while that we would be following different original characters, but this is the first time we have a look at some familiar locations (like the Mos Espa Grand Arena from Phantom Menace) as well as characters.

Here’s the list of anime studios and their entries in Visions:

Kamikaze Douga The Duel

Geno Studio (Twin Engine) – Lop and Ochō

Studio Colorido (Twin Engine) – Tatooine Rhapsody

Trigger – The Twins

Trigger – The Elder

Kinema Citrus – The Village Bride

Science Saru – Akakiri

Science Saru – T0-B1

Production IG – The Ninth Jedi

The series looks absolutely amazing, and a lot of animation fans can appreciate its distinct look from existing animated Star Wars material like The Clone Wars or Rebels. Personally, I was hoping that Resistance was going to adapt this anime art-style, but you can’t have it all.

Hopefully the success of Visions will let Lucasfilm explore the idea of more 2D-animated properties down the line. With Star Wars being known for its dazzling visuals and heartfelt stories, there’s just so much room to explore with this medium. How about a Star Wars: Legends series covering the debunked material from the EU?

Catch Star Wars: Visions when it premieres on Disney+ on Sept. 22.

The original Trese comics by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo is essentially a fantasy noir series which followed Alexandra Trese as she goes around Manila solving supernatural crimes. Besides the distinct art style, Trese also makes us of fantastical creatures that are actually based on Philippine myth.

Here’s the trailer in the local tagalog dialect:

The series gives off some Hellblazer/Constantine vibes, but adds its own original flares to the story, with Trese having twin bodyguards (Kambal) who come with their own supernatural resilience and don masks that resemble the Comedy and Tragedy theater masks.

The books have gained a lot of critical acclaim as well, winning the Natinall Book Award for Best Graphic Literature back in 2010, and the Filipino Readers’ Choice Award for Comics/Graphic Novels in 2013 (among other things).

We don’t know how far the series is expected to go, but the series does have some animation on par with shows like Castlevania and Yasuke. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if the anime will be able to hold up to the comic.

Catch Trese when it debuts on Netflix on June 11.
