If you are a DC Comics fan chances are you are aware of the upcoming villainous ensemble of Task Force X on the silver screen in Suicide Squad. Merchandise is now beginning to crop up in stores and the recently rated PG-13 flick is getting one final push at Comic-Con this year before its anticipated release on 5 August.
DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures have announced Suicide Squad will have a “major presence” at San Diego Comic-Con this year in the form of cast appearances and a recreation of the film’s maximum security prison, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. It is unknown who exactly will be apart of Warner Bros.’ famous Hall H presentation, but chances are the likes of Will Smith (Deadshot) and Margo Robbie (Harley Quinn) will be in attendance, if not the entire cast. What is known however is that part of the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego is going to be transformed into the prison that houses the supervillian squad, Belle Reve Penitentiary. Unlike the actual prison in the movie, it will also feature a Harley Quinn tattoo parlour so those die-hard cosplayers can paint their bodies to resemble Leto’s Joker. A virtual reality experience that will place fans alongside the Squad in an intense action sequence from the movie will also be there. Not bad at all.
Speaking of cosplay, DC has also launched a contest called Squad Up! Thursday which asks fans to cosplay as either of the movie’s protagonists or The Joker to be in with a chance of winning an all-paid for trip to Comic-Con in July. There can be 11 winners, so get cosplaying.
But wait, the Suicide Squad steamroller doesn’t stop there, the cast will also take part in a special recording of Conan O’Brien’s TBS show on 23 July and appear at the DC Entertainment booth on the convention floor to meet fans. Who knew villains could be so kind?
SDCC gets underway on 21 July and concludes on the 24th at the San Diego Convention Centre.
