Suicide Squad Director Seemingly Wants an HBO Max Release of His Film as Well

It’s no mystery that the DCEU had been plagued with a lot of studio meddling after Batman v Superman, and one of the first films to get hit was David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. With Zack Snyder’s Justice League now set to come out on HBO Max, it seems that Ayer is campaigning to get a release for his original vision as well.

After the announcement of the Snyder Cut release, Ayer had been posting some images of Jared Leto’s Joker, and he just put this new one up on Twitter:

While it would seem that Ayer is just sharing things from deleted scenes, it’s kind of suspicious how close it is to the announcement of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. While it’s unlikely that WB would throw a bone to the fans twice in a row, you can’t deny that there are now some fans who are tweeting #ReleaseTheAyerCut online.

If you ask me, it would make sense that Ayer would want his cut of the film released. Suicide Squad was critically panned when it came out, and it basically ruined the reputation of Jared Leto who had given his all when it came to playing his Joker. Ayer has been making statements saying that fans haven’t seen his original vision for the Clown Prince of Crime, and that his ‘heart breaks’ for Leto; if Snyder was able to get his film released, why couldn’t Ayer?

We don’t know if WB or HBO Max will eventually budge, but I’m thinking we could get an update depending on the reception of Zack Snyder’s Justice League; catch the film/series on HBO Max sometime in 2021.
