Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 Premieres in May

Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 Premieres in May

Marvel may have its What If…? series, but Star Wars has their own animated anthology with Visions. After the positive reception of the first season, Lucasfilm is set to come back with a new set of animated shorts from far far away, and now we have a release date.

As per the official announced, Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 will start streaming on Disney+ on May 4, 2023 a.k.a. Star Wars Day. While the first season had mainly gotten anime studios to provide the shorts, Volume 2 will now feature nine studios from all across the globe.

Senior VP of Franchise Content and Strategy at Lucasfilm James Waugh had this to say about the second season:

With Volume 1, the imaginative minds of Japan’s anime industry were on full display. With Volume 2, we expanded our canvas to take audiences on a global tour of some of the most talented creators from around the world. We’re so proud to be able to reveal the line-up of studios we’ve assembled. Every short is incredible, full of heart, scope, imagination, and the values that make stories distinctly ‘Star Wars’ — all while opening up bold new ways of seeing what a ‘Star Wars’ story can be.”

The list of shorts is as follows

  • Sith (El Guiri, Spain)
  • Screecher’s Reach (Caroon Saloon, Ireland)
  • In the Stars (Punkrobot, Chile)
  • I Am Your Mother (Aardman, UK)
  • Journey to the Dark Head (Studio Mir, South Korea)
  • The Spy Dancer (Studio La Cachette, France)
  • The Bandits of Golak (88 Pictures, Singapore)
  • The Pit (D’art Shtajio, Japan and Lucasfilm Ltd., US)
  • Aau’s Song (Triggerfish, South Africa)

Star Wars: Visions has got to be one of my favorite entries in Disney+ Star Wars because it really showcases the creativity that the franchise allows. I was hoping for sequels to some of my fave entries from Volume 1, but I guess it would be interesting to see all these different animation styles come to Star Wars. I’m particularly curious about how Aardman, the studio behind Wallace and Gromit will present their take on SW.

Catch Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 when it premieres on Star Wars Day May 4.
