Star Wars has always been about twins and dyads, what with Luke and Leia in the Original Trilogy, then Rey and Kylo Ren in the Sequels. With more upcoming Star Wars series down the line, one show is said to be working on a bunch of mystical twins—one for the Dark Side and one for the Light.
According to insider Daniel Richtman (via ComicBookMovie), Amandla Stenberg, who has been cast as the lead in The Acolyte, will be playing two different characters. Stenberg is said to be playing a pair of Force-sensitive twins, both of Sith origin. One will have been raised by the Sith, and the other will be directly trained by the Jedi order.
Take note that The Acolyte is set during the High Republic era, which takes place 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace. We don’t know exactly how the events in the series will affect the established canon, but it has been said that the show will be very Sith-centric, and it will showcase how they managed to infiltrate the Jedi, who were said to be at the height of their powers around this era.
Besides Stenberg, Manny Jacinto (The Good Place) is also said to be playing two different characters. We don’t know if it’s another twin situation, but it has been described that he will be “both versions of his own character. One good personality, one bad.”
We don’t know when Disney will be open to giving us an official teaser, but one was released at Star Wars Celebration. Hopefully we get an update around January.
No release date has been set for The Acolyte, but the series is expected to come out on Disney+ sometime in 2024.
