Well this is certainly some great news for the worst kind of Star Wars fans.
The Acolyte had been hit with all kinds of review-bombing and online mysoginy throughout its run, and while the show wasn’t perfect, there were still some that praised the series for its new take on the franchise, and stunning lightsaber action.
Fans have been campaigning for Disney+ to #RenewTheAcolyte ever since the finale dropped, but Deadline is now reporting that Disney has decided not to push forward with a second season—effectively cancelling the show.
At this point, it may not be surprising that Disney has decided not to push forward with the series. Though shows like The Mandalorian and Andor got greenlit for multiple seasons, other shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Book of Boba Fett didn’t get the greenlight for a second season either.
We don’t know exactly why the series wasn’t picked up, but some think that the hefty budget and middling reviews wasn’t enough to get the studio interested in a continuation—much to the dismay of every Acolyte fan online:

I wasn't a big fan of this show but ? Not even let them tell the full story properly? This has corporate greed (and a great deal of bigotry) written all over it https://t.co/gWtjRW0xKX

It’s admittedly a low point for a good chunk of the Star Wars fandom, but some are hopeful that the buzz around the cancellation could get Lucasfilm to change their mind. At this point though, some are getting worried about what this means for the upcoming Rey Skywalker movie.
Will they cancel it in favour of an Ahsoka movie? Will everyone still care by that point? We’ll just have to wait and see.
