Taika Waititi is going to be making his Star Wars debut in The Mandalorian, and everyone is eager to meet his assassin droid character IG-11. With the show coming out this week, Lucasfilm has dropped a new teaser giving us a hint at Waititi’s voice for the upcoming droid character.

While IG only says, “The Mandalorian” you can already see a lot of hints at how Waititi is approaching the voice. We now know that the voice is going to come out more robotic and muffled, and based on what we hear, it’s likely that IG-11 won’t have Waititi’s trademark Kiwi accent; then again, I guess we have to hear him talk a bit more to get a better grasp.
Though IG-11 is an assassin droid, I think it’s safe to say that the character is going to be a source of comic relief for the show. Waititi had described the character back last month as a “child with a gun.” He says, “[IG-11 is] very innocent and naive and direct and doesn’t know about sarcasm and doesn’t know how to lie,” which I think is already a hint that we’re going to get a lot of humor from IG just not understanding a situation.
For now, The Mandalorian is set to debut only one episode on Disney+. Though Netflix has made us used to full season drops with their content, Disney is going the traditional route and dropping episodes weekly.
Here’s the description of the series:
The Mandalorian takes place five years after the fall of the Empire as depicted in Return of the Jedi and 25 years before the emergence of the First Order depicted in The Force Awakens. It follows an independent Mandalorian bounty hunter “in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic”
Disney+ officially launches Nov. 12.
