It’s no mystery that Star Wars Outlaws didn’t perform as expected, and for a AAA game, Ubisoft was branding the project as a huge dud.
While some would think that would be the end of Outlaws moving forward, it looks like the developers over at Massive Entertainment are trying to keep it alive for just a little more. In a recent post on Ubisoft, it’s been revealed that the game has hired a new creative director in the form of Drew Rechner.
Rechner writes about the three things they’re currently dealing with when it comes to the game:
“The first key area of improvement to the game is combat where we see a real opportunity to add more depth and excitement to the experience, further rewarding your tactics and precision. Our second key area is stealth which is not only about improving the readability and consistency of enemy detection, but also providing choice in how you want to approach each encounter. Finally, our third key area of focus is centered around the character controls, which means improving the reliability of cover, increasing the responsiveness of climbing and crouching, and generally improving the consistency of the controls overall.”
We don’t have any specifics on the new update yet, but Ubisoft is planning to release them soon because the big update is scheduled to be released on November 21.
When Outlaws first released, it was lauded for its massive open world, but a lot of critics were saying that there was a lack of variety when it came to the story, and it felt pretty generic at time; the only thing that kept people attached to it was that it was a Star Wars property.
Admittedly, multiple games have managed to get up from terrible launches—just look at EA Games and their poor launch of Star Wars Battlefront II; the game was able to bounce back with high quality DLC released over the course of the next few years.
Then again, it’s not clear if Outlaws can pull off the same hat trick. At least we know the studio is trying. Too bad Concord just had their plug pulled.
Star Wars Outlaws is now playable for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
