Since 2017, the only Star Wars game on EA’s slate has been Battlefront II, but another single-player platformer had been announced in the form of Star Wars: Fallen Order. After a long wait, we finally have a potential release window for the game.
According to Variety, EA is planning on releasing Fallen Order sometime around this fall. The game is said to have God of War 3 director Stig Asmussen at the helm, and he has a team of veterans working with him to bring this more story-oriented game. EA head Andrew Wilson had this to say during the earnings call:
“[Star Wars: Fallen Order is] very far along in development, and having spent time with it recently myself, it plays spectacularly well. This game truly captures the fantasy of becoming a Jedi, and we will have a lot more to share soon.”
After playing a 20-minute demo, Wilson also went on to say that the game “is exceptional in terms of its level of polish depth and living inside of the Star Wars world as a Jedi.”
Just in case you didn’t know, Fallen Order is said to be a single-player platformer which will focus on the story of a young Padawan trying to survive the Jedi purge which takes place in the middle of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.
After EA had cancelled an open-world Star Wars project last month, the company had gone under fire for not making good use of its Star Wars license. Ever since the studio had acquired the rights, the only games they’ve been able to pump out are under the Star Wars Battlefront banner as well as a few mobile games.
Hopefully with Fallen Order, they are able to redeem themselves even for a little bit. DICE is slowly recovering after the disastrous launch of Star Wars Battlefront II from 2017. Let’s hope that Fallen Order doesn’t fall into any snags before it comes out later this year.
No specific release date has been announced for Star Wars: Fallen Order, but the game is set to release this fall.
