Star Wars: Daisy Ridley Returning as Rey for Upcoming Movie

Sequel Trilogy fans have been starved for content since The Rise of Skywalker, but it looks like Lucasfilm is ready to come back to the era.

As revealed in Star Wars Celebration last weekend (via Polygon), Daisy Ridley will be returning as Rey Skywalker in a film set after the events of TROS. We don’t have any specific details when it comes to the story, but it’s said that Rey, like Luke before her, is going to attempt to revive the Jedi Order—but maybe she could be introducing a few changes this time.

Originally, the movie was meant to be written by Damon Lindelof (Watchmen) and Justin Britt-Gibson, but the two had reportedly left the project a few months back. Instead, the script will now be provided by Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight. The director, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, was the original choice to helm, and is still attached to the film despite the writer shake-up.

With Daisy Ridley onboard, fans are already asking who else could be coming back for the film. It feels like John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Kelly Marie Tran should return, but I’m kind of on the fence about bringing back Adam Driver as Ben Solo; I mean, does he even want to come back to Star Wars?

Obaid-Chinoy’s Star Wars movie is said to be one of three that are being planned to release theatrically. Hopefully we get more reveals soon, but for now, we’ll just have to wait.

No release date has been announced for the next Star Wars film starring Ridley.
