Murder-mystery movies are so back since Knives Out and Murder on the Orient Express, and now Zoe Kravitz wants in on that action with her directorial debut dubbed Blink Twice. The movie just dropped its first trailer, and it has a star-studded cast which includes Channing Tatum, Naomi Ackie, Christian Slater, and more.

When tech billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum) meets cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie) at his fundraising gala, sparks fly. He invites her to join him and his friends on a dream vacation on his private island. It’s paradise. Wild nights blend into sun-soaked days and everyone’s having a great time. Nobody wants this trip to end, but as strange things start to happen, Frida begins to question her reality. Something is wrong with this place. She’ll have to uncover the truth if she wants to make it out of this party alive.
The premise of a rich person inviting all of their friends to a private island is pretty much the same setting of Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion, but add to that a protagonist that’s having gaps in their memory, and you have a dash of Christopher Nolan’s Memento in there.
Admittedly having Kravitz in the director’s chair for the first time does add a lot of pressure on the movie, but with the stellar cast and what looks to be an interesting premise, maybe Blink Twice will manage to surprise everyone.
I mean, Olivia Wilde managed to pull it off. Why not Kravitz?
Besides the previously mentioned cast members, the movie also includes Kyle MacLachlan, Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, Geena Davis, and Alia Shawkat.
Blink Twice is set to release in theaters on Aug. 23.
