We reported a few days ago that Steven Spielberg might be doing either Indiana Jones 5 or West Side Story as his next project, and now we have an official sign that the remake of West Side Story is officially moving forward as Spielberg has put out a casting call.
We don’t have much information on the project so far, but the West Side Story casting, which was first reported by Broadway World, has the director looking for three Latino performers for the roles of Maria, Anita, and Bernardo. The casting call also reveals that they are looking for a Caucasian actor for the role of Tony. All actors must be able to sing, and dancing experience is “a plus,” which if you’ve seen the original version or stage play that’s a pretty big plus.
In case you are wondering, Indiana Jones 5 is apparently still a go set for release in July 2020, but if the casting is taking place for West Side Story now, we have to expect that this will get made before then unless production costs hold him up. In the meantime, if you want to watch the original West Side Story you can check it out on Amazon Prime.
