While it seemed like a good idea with Spider-Man: Homecoming, it looks like Sony’s incoming Spider-Man solo movies are trapped to have ‘Home’ somewhere in the title thanks to Spider-Man: Far from Home. With a lot of speculation going around for the third movie, it’s possible that we have the title for the third Spider-Man film set to come out in 2021 – Homesick.
According to posts from Esquire and Maxim (via Murphy’s Multiverse), the title of Spider-Man 2021 has been leaked to be Spider-Man: Homesick.
Of course, we should just take this as a rumor for now, but until Sony does some kind of big reveal, this all us fans really have. While it does stick to the ‘Home in the title’ rules of the past two films, I think Homesick is kind of redundant to Far from Home; I mean, both can mean the same thing.
If anything, there’s still a lot of room for things to change. Rumor had come out that Spider-Man: Homerun was going to be the title a long while ago, but that didn’t pan out. There’re only so many phrases that have ‘Home’ in the title from Homeland to Home Sweet Home. I know MCU Spidey is more of a Star Wars fan, but what if the next movie had a Trek-inspired title like Spider-Man: The Voyage Home? What if Spider-Man gets kidnapped in the film and has to escape and the movie is titled Spider-Man: Stockholm Syndrome?
With Spidey 3 set to come out late 2021, it’s possible Sony will want to hold off any big reveals this year. They’ll probably be focused on promoting Holland in Uncharted, and it’s likely we’re getting our Spider-Man 3 promotion when that film comes out.
Spider-Man 3 is currently set to release on Dec. 17, 2021.
