Besides Aquaman, December also saw a successful release of Sony’s animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The movie was the critical darling of superhero films last year, and we now have a date for the home releases.
This was posted up by producer Chris Miller:
It’s coming… #SpiderVerse in your home. Digital 2/26 & BluRay 3/19, featuring a Kingpin-sized ton of extras like a Spider-Ham short and more! Oh and it’s still in cinemas! pic.twitter.com/el4YGgxGWM

It’s astounding that Sony released a critical bomb like Venom and an animated darling like Spider-Verse in the same year. While Venom was a step back for the superhero genre, Spider-Verse was a creative innovation, that not only provided us with an amazing animated superhero film, but also presented the audience with the concept of a multiverse and several different Spider-Men.
For now, Sony is working on several Spider-Verse spinoffs which will center on familiar characters as well as introduce new ones. Besides the straight up sequel featuring the return of Miles Morales, we also have the all-woman team-up with Spider-Gwen, and a possible animated series for John Mulaney’s Spider-Ham.
I have to say, before Spider-Verse came out, Sony’s slate for Spider-Man spinoffs was looking pretty grim. Besides Venom, there were plans to make a Morbius movie plus a Kraven the Hunter film. They also split the Silver & Black movie into two different movies. Did I also mention there were plans for an Aunt May prequel?
At least with Spider-Verse, we got something that actually felt innovative and not feel like a total cash grab.
Catch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse on home video Feb. 26 (Digital) and March 19 (Blu-Ray).
