Spider-Man 2 Reveals Venom, Release Date, and More

The Summer Game Fest came with a lot of great reveals, and we got a showcase for one of the most anticipated games of the year, Spider-Man 2. Insomniac Games has released a bunch of new images from the game including Venom and Kraven the Hunter, and they’ve also given us the release date.

Here’s the showcase via IGN:

As per the panel, Spider-Man 2 will be launching on the PlayStation 5 on October 20, 2023.

We don’t have a specific breakdown of the story, but it has been confirmed that the Venom in the game will not be Eddie Brock. It’s been teased in the first game that Norman Osborn’s son Harry could be Venom, and it’s possible that’s him we see in the reveal.

With the Spider-Man game carving out its own canon, the change of Venom’s secret identity is probably one of the biggest departures from established lore. Who knows, maybe there’s room for Eddie Brock to show up, but I’m always up for new interpretations of classic stories.

Pre-orders for Spider-Man 2 launch in June, and getting the standard edition will earn you 2 unlock suits for Miles and Peter with color variations. The digital deluxe edition of the game will get you 10 new costumes (5 suits each), including additional skill points and bonus photo mode items.

With Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse currently tearing it up in the box office, now is the best time to remind everyone that a Spider-Man game featuring Miles and Peter are coming out. Hopefully it manages to live up to the hype.

Spider-Man 2 launches on PS5 on Oct. 20.
