It looks like Alex Garland has been bit by the modern warfare genre bug. After success with A24’s Civil War, he’s now teamed up with the studio again for something more real with Warfare.
Garland co-directs the movie with Iraq war veteran Ray Mendoza and a new special look has been dropped for the film. Check this out:
The movie has a star-studded cast which includes the likes of D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Charles Melton, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Joseph Quinn, and Noah Centineo. With Mendoza also telling the story from his POV, Warfare is expected to be as close as possible to the actual events of the Battle of Ramadi—which is considered to be one of the bloodiest battles in Iraq.
As it turns out, Mendoza had worked with Garland on his movie Civil War, and they had ended up discussing Warfare while they were in production for that project. A year after the release, Mendoza gets to tell his story on the big screen.
Garland is considered to be a modern auteur, and it really shines in Civil War. We don’t know what to expect with Warfare exactly, but I bet it’s going to be one heck of a ride.
Here’s the official description for Warfare:
A platoon of Navy SEALs embark on a dangerous mission in Ramadi, Iraq, with the chaos and brotherhood of war retold through their memories of the event.
Catch Warfare in cinemas when it comes out April 11.
