Fans had been wondering where Norman Osborn was in the MCU only to have it revealed that he doesn’t exist in that timeline in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Even though Norman was brought back to his time, fans are still wondering if there ever will be an MCU Green Goblin and someone already has an idea for the character.
Talking to The Direct, Chris Diamantopoulos pitched that he would be great in the MCU, and he can play Norman in an origin series. He says:
“I would be very good in the in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yeah, I do definitely. I was born going to Silver Snail comic shop. That’s like one of the first place I ever went when I was a little kid, little baby. I’ve been a comic fan, a Marvel fan for my entire life, passed that on to my son. He’s a crazy comic collector, particularly 80s and 90s stuff.
But I think that they should make a series called ‘Goblin,’ and it should be about Norman Osborn leading up to becoming the Green Goblin. And I should be Norman Osborn.”
Admittedly, it’s kind of a pitch that feels like something that Diamantopoulos came up with off the top of his head, but after the success of series like The Penguin, maybe a series could be the best way to actually hype up Norman Osborn in the MCU. Maybe Green Goblin aka Norman is a troubled genius who doesn’t have a company yet, and the series could explore how he grows it post-No Way Home.
For now, the only version of Norman that’s set to be introduced is one in the animated Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man played by Colman Domingo. This is a different timeline from the MCU though, and instead of Tony Stark, it’s Norman that ends up mentoring Peter Parker.
Honestly, I would love to see what Diamantopoulos has for Green Goblin. Maybe he’s kind of an evil Tony Stark, but that’s what Sam Rockwell’s Justin Hammer essentially was—maybe it would work if Norman was actually a competent scientist as well? It’s just an idea.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is set to come to Disney+ on Jan. 29.
