A lot of people have raved about Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, but the film did end with a teaser for the return of the original DreamWorks Animation icon—Shrek. We know that a new Shrek movie is underway, but it may have been just revealed when the studio plans to release it.
An NBCUniversal employee has allegedly slipped on her LinkedIn and revealed that Shrek 5 is expected to come out in 2025. The employee has already altered the post, but the genie has already been let out of the bottle.
‘SHREK 5’ is now rumored to release in 2025.

We don’t know exactly where the next Shrek movie could go, but it’s very possible we could be exploring more of Shrek and his family with Fiona. With the last film having him struggling to be a new dad, maybe the sequel could have him dealing with his kids leaving the nest; maybe pass the torch of the franchise to younger kids.
Of course, there is also the ‘origins’ direction where they follow a younger Shrek and find out how he ends up alone in the swamp. With him not even being familiar with other ogres like him, there’s definitely potential for more stories to mine.
With only the first two Shrek films considered to be the pinnacle of the Dreamworks franchise, it would be great if they managed to nab that same kind of magic with this upcoming movie. We don’t know what went wrong with Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After, but they definitely need a stronger story with solid humor if they want this franchise to keep going.
No official release date has been announced for Shrek 5.
