Shia LaBeouf may have caused some trouble for Olivia Wilde and her movie, but he’s going to be teaming up with one of the most celebrated directors of all time.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, LaBeouf has joined the cast of Coppola’s next movie dubbed Megalopolis. No details have been released about LaBeouf’s role, but he does join a star-studded cast which includes Jason Schwartzman, Aubrey Plaza, Adam Driver, Laurence Fishburne, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Forest Whitaker.
Megalopolis is being described as an independent film, and Coppola describes the film:
“There’s a certain way everyone thinks a film should be, and it rubs against the grain if you have another idea… People can be very unaccepting, but sometimes the other idea represents what’s coming in the future. That is worthy of being considered.”
Here’s the movie’s logline as well:
“The fate of Rome haunts a modern world unable to solve its own social problems in this epic story of political ambition, genius and conflicted love.”
Considering Coppola’s reputation, a lot of fans should expect some kind of cerebral movie, but the director has been known to have some kid-friendly films like the Robin Williams-fuelled Jack. Admittedly, Coppola hasn’t had a hit movie since the Godfather films and Apocalypse Now, but you can’t fault him for trying.
I mean, if Martin Scorsese can still direct films like The Irishman, Coppola is certainly allowed to direct a movie every now and again.
Going back to LaBeouf though, he has been under fire recently after his ex-girlfriends have come out with stories of his abusive nature, but maybe this film with Coppola could be a chance for a comeback.
Megalopolis is yet to receive a release date.
