Fans thought that Jim Carrey was kind of retired after the second Sonic movie, but somehow he’s back as Dr. Robotnik (and his father) for Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Paramount is gearing up for the release of the film next month, and a new featurette reveals that they actually shaved Carrey’s head for the movie onscreen. Check this out:
Apparently Robotnik’s dishevelled hair in the movie was Carrey’s actual hair, and he said he’d been growing it for a year-and-a-half. We don’t know if he actually grew the hair for the film, but it’s always nice to see details like this whenever they talk about the making of movies.
Though three movies does sound like a solid number for a trilogy, it’s said that after Shadow the Hedgehog, director Tim Miller and his team already have their eyes set on a Sonic 4. We don’t have any details on who the villain could be this time, but a rumor is going around that the filmmakers are looking to incorporate Silver the Hedgehog into the movie.
In the games, Silver is a time-traveller (like Trunks from DBZ) who comes back to his past to stop catastrophes that shaped his future.
Of course, a fourth movie hasn’t been officially greenlit, but with the success of the Sonic movies and the solid fanbase, a fourth movie wouldn’t be surprising. I was just kind of hoping they greenlit another three movies immediately so Miller can write a more cohesive trilogy this time around.
Then again, it’s just a kids movie with a Hedgehog that runs fast, so I don’t think they have to try that hard storywise.
Catch Sonic the Hedgehog 3 when it zips into theatres this Dec. 20.
