Hunter Schafer to Star in Blade Runner 2099 TV Series

It may be a while before we get to see her in Euphoria again, but it looks like Hunter Schafer is already lined up for another big IP.

According to Variety, Schafer has been cast in Amazon’s Blade Runner 2099, a TV series based on the hit film from Ridley Scott. We don’t have any details on who Schafer could be playing, but we do know that she’s going to be starring alongside Michelle Yeoh (Everything, Everywhere, All at Once); and Yeoh will be playing a replicant (this world’s version of an android) near the end of its life.

The last huge Blade Runner propety to come out was back in 2017 with Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 starring Ryan Gosling. Though the movie was a critical darling, it didn’t manage to make the box office numbers expected of a high-budget film. Even if that was the case, Villeneuve was still able to make Dune, which thankfully got a lot of money during its theaterical run.

We don’t have an official story for Blade Runner 2049 yet, but if we follow the series, we’ll know that the entire theme of the Blader Runner property is to ask what really makes something human. The first movie had Harrison Ford questioning his own humanity, and 2049 pretty much did the same thing with Gosling—and he was clearly playing a robot.

With Schafer onboard, I wonder what kind of existential crisis they’re going to make her undergo onscreen.

As of now, no release date has been set for Blade Runner 2099.
