Jason Reitman may not have returned to direct the sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife, but he was at the helm for a more ‘serious’ movie in the form of Saturday Night.
Check this out:
At 11:30pm on October 11, 1975, a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television – and culture – forever. Directed by Jason Reitman and written by Gil Kenan & Reitman, Saturday Night is based on the true story of what happened behind the scenes in the 90 minutes leading up to the first broadcast of Saturday Night Live. Full of humor, chaos, and the magic of a revolution that almost wasn’t, we count down the minutes in real time until we hear those famous words…
Since this is a movie about the making of a television show, the characters are all based on real-life people. Saturday Night Live and comedy fans will recognize the name Lorne Michaels as the legendary producer of SNL, but the movie will also feature iconic comedians at the time including Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner, George Carlin, and John Belushi.
Nicholas Braun also looks to be playing a double role, one as Muppet mastermind Jim Henson and another as comedian Andy Kaufman (who Jim Carrey famously played in Man on the Moon).
I guess it’s also worth noting that Gabriel LaBelle, who plays Michaels in this movie, also played another iconic entertainment figurehead in Meet the Fabelmans where he played a younger Steven Spielberg. Now all he needs is to play a famous actor in a biopic and he would have played the trifecta of a famous director, producer, and actor.
How about a Tom Cruise biopic?
Saturday Night comes to cinemas on Oct. 11.
